The "poor" girl having clothes she could'nt possibly afford was always one that tested my suspension of disbelief... Like if you can barely pay your bills, how do you have 5 different winter coats ? A poor person would use the one they have until it's too worn to wear and spend the money on other essentials instead...

What about their phone? 😆 they got the latest Samsung Galaxy lol when I first time watched the heirs I was like “how can she afford that? They don’t even have a house to stay” 😆 But again this not only happens in kdrama 😂 You can see the “poor” using expensive products and having brand new bags in Cdrama and other country's dramas even in a French series. Humm but the purpose is the story and the lessons you can get from it, not their clothes and products 😊 right?

@@hansol- Poor people save up for months and months to buy expensive things and then try to make them last. They have to keep those things for a long, long time so they are more wary of things breaking or getting dirty. Sometimes they do it for work. So someone who's poor needs a good phone to look for jobs and have good service to contact their kids or do their work effectively. So they save up for a good phone but can't buy a new phone for 2-3 years. Or they need to have a few nice suits/outfits for interviews or for their first year or so on the job. Or they risk losing that job. Sometimes they do it to hide their poverty as much as possible. Unnecessary scrutiny and judgement from people for being/looking poor or "untidy" can be severely damaging to a lot of people's mental health and self esteem. A better sign of poverty isn't necessarily whether they have nice things, it's whether those nice things are disposable to them or not. Rich people buy nice/expensive things but treat them like they cost pennies and can be easily replaced. I def agree that this nuance could be better portrayed in shows, tho.

@@raesnest I feel like everything you wrote was so spot on! In real life, I could be totally wrong, thinking this or that person has no financial difficulties because of their clothes, phone, etc. but it could be that they scrounged every penny and saved money on other important but not visible parts of their lives... because how people perceive them will affect their employment and other aspects of their lives. BUT in dramas, where we are shown the "hidden" part of the character's life, i.e. what they do when the other characters don't see them, that's when the script writers should show us some nuance... One drama that I felt really showed being really poor was My mister. The female lead (IU) struggled so much, it was heartbreaking at times. (She didn't fake being rich though.)

Literally she woke up from a coma to find that someone she loved had died AND she was also up on potential murder charges because her boyfriend framed her for killing a man while drunk driving. Her despair to the point of jumping off a building was absolutely understandable emotionally.

If you like the Gumiho trope, there's a drama that I would recommend : My Girlfriend is a Gumiho. It's older (from 2010, with Shin Min Ah & Lee Seung Gi) but it's amazing! Cute and hilarious at the same time ^^

YOU GUYS HAVE TO WAYCH “ALCHEMY OF SOUL” it’s sooo good. literally it’s about a shifting souls and basically this powerful mage, naksu, who was on the verge of dying shifts souls into a blind girl named mudeok and becomes a servant of jang-uk from a noble powerful mage family, who has a very plot twisty family history but unfortunately he can’t use his power. But he figures out his servent, mu-deok, is the powerful naksu and becomes of a pupil of his servant. and yeah.
