Thank you for watching! Steaming on Gaggia takes a little bit of tricks to get it going. I’m assuming that you don’t have PID. I would recommend to start steaming milk after 20 seconds after you turn on the steaming button for the stronger steaming pressure. On the how-to steam milk, we are trying to make a video on it and hopefully that will help explains it better. Let us know how your latte art journey is going!

Nice video! Thank you for sharing. I have the exact same set-up (except the PID..) thanks to Christmas. May I know your set up on your Sette Grinder? Also, did you always have the PID on your Gaggia? I have some challenge to get a nice texture for my milk, do you know how many seconds it takes after turning on the steam button to be the perfect temperature to start steaming ? Thanks!
@QTHomeCafe
@QTHomeCafe 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for stopping by!! Gaggia Classic Pro is an amazing machine with or without PID. My Sette is currently at 5A. Every grinder is different so I’m not sure how helpful that would be. You need to dial your beans in. We installed PID on our machine ourselves. It did take a bit of time to install it but it was a very nice upgrade. Steaming on GCP without PID, We usually steam 15-20 seconds after we pressed the steam button. That usually gives the most power. You want to start steaming BEFORE the light comes up underneath the steam button.

@QTHomeCafe
@QTHomeCafe 3 жыл бұрын

@QTHomeCafe
@QTHomeCafe 3 жыл бұрын
@@FreedomCoffeeRoasters I just saw that there was an upgraded version for normcore v3. well basically, it doesn't completely bottoms out properly so by inserting a ton of paper towel in the middle core will hard-stop that. What I did was, removing the flat plate and spring then use a wrench or some sort with cloth (so it doesn't scratch the metal core) to twist off the middle core from the black handle. It will come off and there's another spring inside the core. Completely remove that spring and shove small bunched up paper towel in there. Then assemble everything and leaving the internal spring out. I hope that helps!

It looks very stylish and I was keen on getting it after watching this video! But then I read a lot of bad reviews about it, even for the v3. @QTHomeCafe

Hello! Thank you so much for your kind words! Brew lights are flashing because of the PID. PID controls the temperature of the machine and once it goes below certain temperature, the brew light switch turns back on trying to get back to the temperature that I've set. I hope that answer your question!

which opv spring is your machine running at? Still trying to decide between 6.5 bar and 9 bar. I ran at 6.5 for a while and immediately noticed the smoothness of the espresso, switched back to 9 and immediately noticed the harshness. I recently switched back to the 6.5, but now I'm almost missing some of the harshness almost as if my coffee tastes a bit weak to me now.

Hello there! Thank you for stopping by! As of right now, we are using the 9 bar. Have you ever heard of the dimmer mod? You can add a dimmer switch to your machine and added a pressure gauge. You can control the pressure at will without changing the springs. This will also let you flow control and create those lever shot style espresso and many others!

@@QTHomeCafe I actually just completed the dimmer mod like 2 weeks ago! I think it looks great, don't have a gauge though (and I'm honestly not sure if I want to add one or not) which is why I just decided to put the 6.5bar spring in again. Who knows might switch back to 9 at some point once I get a little more experience with my dimmer knob.

Hey! Thanks so much for making these I've just picked up a gaggia classic pro and am just waiting on the grinder to fire it up! I love all the equipment you use! Thanks for leaving it all in the description. One question- I noticed you are no longer using the 2-1 tamper/leveling tool, any reason for that? I want to get a tamper to replace the plastic thing that comes with the machine, but haven't made a choice yet. What would you recommend? Thanks again!!
@QTHomeCafe
@QTHomeCafe 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! That's very exciting! Let us know how it goes when you received your grinder. The tamper we are using is a self-leveling tamper with a spring-loaded mechanism. You will tamp at a certain force evenly across the espresso puck every single time you tamp. The 2-1 tamper needs to be adjusted every time you change your coffee beans. To be honest, it's more of a guessing game and I'm really sure if I'm using it properly. Normcore tamper is a good budget self-leveling tamper. If you prefer something more old fashion, you can always browse around etsy or amazon for the one that you like. Hope that helps!

Did you use the machine a lot before the PID? If so, did you notice a major difference after you installed it?
@QTHomeCafe
@QTHomeCafe 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely yes, I used it daily and at least twice a day since I was trying to learn how to use it. Personally, I appreciate being able to see the temp and the temp stability for pulling shots after installing PID. What stood out the most for me was the milk steaming. I think because prior to PID, I wasn't able to see the temp but simply just timed it to know when to start steaming. With a PID, it took me some time figuring out the temp where I should start purging and steaming to still get the perfect pressure.

Mostly no. PID was a long process for us and we don’t feel comfortable enough to show it to others. It’s truly a miracle that we got it installed. There’s a lot of videos out there where they showed you how to PID and install for a much cheaper price.

@QTHomeCafe
@QTHomeCafe 3 жыл бұрын
Hey there, how exciting! GCP is for sure a great machine to start your espresso journey with😉 So I reopen the steam wand again to get rid of all the steam built up inside the boiler. It's a way to cool down the machine and refill the boiler with water. The process actually is to let the steam out, then turn on the brew button so you'll see water comes out of the wand. Once you see that, turn off the knob and let water run out of the group head. You'll notice the steam come out of the group head along with water. If you watch my 3rd video "MORNING COFFEE AT HOME EP 3", you'll be able to see how I do it completely at the end🙂Hope that helps!

Hey there! thank you for stopping by. I appreciate your feedback! When we first think about buying an espresso machine, we didn't have a big budget to work with. Through these past 6-7 months, we spent a little of money here and there to upgrade the machine so the cost is definitely more than what we first start out but we didn't have to spend all that money right off the bat. The machine is not for everyone but I'm sharing how we do things and how we can make this machine "better". One day for sure, we will get a fancier machine especially the Decent espresso machine.

@@QTHomeCafe If you are a professional that just want a cup for B-fast. or take from home. The workflow that you show, the weighting the beans, the pre heating of the cup, the needles to aerate, taking the drip tray, the small glass carafe, the weighting again and 3 steel pitchers 3 is just not real. So I guess the tittle should be complete detailed coffee geek workflow. I wonder if the needles, the doser the fancy grinder (vs a Baratza Encore), the micro screen, the weight, the PID and the bottomless portafilter are just diminishing returns. vs a simple correctly dialed in grind and timed by eye shot. Thanks for stopping by! It does take a bit of time for Gaggia but it’s definitely worth it! If you have a chance to get an espresso machine, I would highly recommend it if you love a good cup of coffee. “Whisking the grounds” before compressing help to create an even extraction and that helps with the flavor. I believe that coffee shops could afford to just do it quickly due to the quality of their grinders. It definitely cost a lot more than what we have at home.
