Even greater than the Greatest, "This Is Spinal Tap", is "Walk Hard", but only if ur familiar with music history! I've seen it prob a hundred times & still catch references I missed! Like his persona/way he talks based is on David Allen Coe, which if don't know who that is u wouldn't have a clue!😅 But covers the lives of Johhny Cash, Dylan, Brian Wilson, hits on The Beatles, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Bowie, & even Jimmy Dean, as well as the origin of Punk Rock & on & on! Is a MASTERPIECE, but, once again, if not familiar with all that☝ not nearly as good to watch, tho still funny af!!! 🤘🌎❤

Oh my god, this reaction was FANTASTIC!!! The fact that you guys knew so much about rock & roll means everything! And then she knew the lyrics to "Big Bottom", are you kidding me? PRICELESS reaction. By the way, these three would frequently go on talk shows and do interviews for years in character, you can find tons of clips. They're doing a sequel to it actually, right now! Favorite rock and roll movie? This is definitely one of them. The Who's "The Kids Are Alright", The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night" and "Yellow Submarine" are probably my top three. "24 Hour Party People" from 2003 is a GREAT, hilarious movie about the 80s music scene in Manchester, England. Love "The School Of Rock" too! "American Graffiti" and "Dazed And Confused" are movies where the rock and roll music is essential, one that takes place in the early 60s last night of the summer and the other last day of school 1976. You guys would do GREAT reactions to those two.....or any of those! THANKS!

There is a joke in the performance of "Big Bottom" that most reactors don't catch: During that song, all members are playing bass instruments. Derek is playing bass - his normal instrument - but Nigel and David have switched to bass guitars. Mick Shrimpton is using abnormally large drumsticks. Most first-time viewers don't catch this, which is understandable for non-musicians. When the cast has toured as Spinal Tap, they repeat this arrangement/gag, and credit the drummer with "bass drums". This was taken to the extreme at the LiveEarth charity concert in 2007: Tap performed a set at Wembly Stadium in London, and during "Big Bottom", they were joined by "every bass player in the known universe": ALL bassists from ALL of the other acts performing there joined them onstage, including some guitarists who had switched to bass.

I was a paid extra for this movie over at Moby Disc Records in Sherman Oaks, CA. I don't believe I was on camera however they filmed a scene where the band is promoting their new album but was not used unfortunately. Instead, they used the scene where Paul Schaffer tells the band to kick his ass. I thought the other scene was funny they should have used it. The movie is hilarious!

In the scene, their new album cover is black from the idea that The Beatles had their White Album, so they thought they'd be clever and have their Black Album. At the record store they're promoting their new black album and no one shows up except some annoying kid who approaches the band members, he tells them he never heard of Spinal Tap, they're telling the kid who they are, the kid picks up their black album and says there's nothing written on the cover, so all the band members start telling him to hold the album up to the sunlight and tilt it at a certain angle and then, he should see the words Spinal Tap on the cover. It was so funny!

They're always sniping about the band, and foolish band members might listen to them, and create division where none existed. Not universally true, but bassists tend to be more passive and co-operative. SO, they attractive more aggressive uncooperative women. Death knell.

I started playing in rock bands when I was 12, I'm now 60 and I can tell you that apart from the obvious lack of sex and drugs and crazy after-gig parties this is one of the most accurate portrayals of rock band life. This is hysterical on it's own Merritt, but it's even more funny when you've lived the ridiculous psychology and events that unfold in this movie and when one looks back at ones own experiences. Greatest part about this movie is it did not actually have a script it was 99% improvised. The wrote the history of the band and the history of the characters and all the guys answered the questions excetera in character as the person they were playing. They didn't know what the questions were going to actually be and Rob Reiner didn't know what the answers would actually be, other than they knew the history of the band who the first drummer was excetera excetera

Viv was a fun part of this movie, but he was never a part of the later tours. CJ Vanston always played those under his real name. Ric Parnell was Mick Shrimpton in this tour, Rick Shrimpton (twin, naturally) for the Break like the Wind tour. He legitimately passed away a few years ago. I'm sure Greg Bissonnette first played with them as Skippy Scuffleton but now he plays with them under his real name as well. And you HAVE to find the KZbin clip of them performing the strangely touching "Majesty of Rock" at the Freddie Mercury Tribute. Where they end up having a LEGIT Spinal Tap moment when Nigel's amp is cold for 7 minutes after their intro.
