I was just showing this to my son, now 23 and saying that I was home on leave and met his mother 12 days after it was filmed. Great to see it again, thanks Mr B Collie!

Great film well done. It will be a great community and visitor asset when the railtrail is constructed from the university precinct Invermay to Scottsdale. It will get students from Interstate (the mainland) and international students, uni staff to explore , socialise. Locals , families getting out for a bike ride , meeting other people ,walk clearing the mind and exercise away from a deteriorating Launceston economic and social situation .

The leave films now box in the Quadrant was that for overnight processing of films? Today if you need to process a film you go to the Camera House and do it yourself I think. 😊

I spent quite a bit of time playing on those wooden boxes in the mall near Myer. A few years later and i'd be around here while skipping classes at Launceston College.

Look at the lovely greenery in the mall. New mall needs flowers & trees. Too bare now.

I filmed Launceston with a National Panasonic M7 Video Camera which took full size VHS Video Tapes. The camera was heavy to carry all the way from Racecourse Cresent, all through Launceston, up the Cataract Gorge (Did'nt have the streagnth to get to Duck Reach!!) and up over West Launceston and back home to Racecourse Cres again! The camera cost $90.00 to hire for a week from Wills in the Quadrant at the time. Also it took me 15 hours to upload this video to KZbin on dial up!! Its worth It!

Launceston was very lively back then. One could not figure out what has gone badly wrong in the course of 30 years or so such that Launceston CBD is technically death now.

It's like that across the world. Technology means people spend more time on their screens at home. Also people are much poorer now, jobs don't pay as well and everything is much more expensive. People don't have as much money to spend.

In the early 1990s it was a recession and there were a lot of unemployed people around at the time anyway and a lot of young people just hang out in the mall just to socialise. They've been doing that for years since I left school in the late 1970s.

Thanks for posting this up. Fantastic! I used to live in York St, right behind Allgoods, briefly in your vid before you zoom in on the York St Drainage sign. Moved in late 1995 so four years after this, I don't remember it looking so old and conservative. Well done for not only having hired the camera and shot this but also having kept it all those years.

Thanx heaos for posting this. I used to live in the city at this time and I was also one of those "annoying youths" who hung around at the Myer seats! OMG that is so weird... I am sure that is me walking with my ex through the quadrant! I would recognise his walk anywhere!!! He is wearing what appears to be a red t shirt but from memory it was pink!

@@thomaselliott573 Yeah, back in the 1980's we really had some fun on a Friday or Saturday night, doing blockies and occasionally race a EH Holden or HG Holden or XY Ford Falcon off the lights. . . We used to go up the Treavllyn Lookout and sit up there at night and talk to some people on the CB Radio and have a look at the Launceston City Night Lights! No they were the days of good old Launceston they were! 😊

This is great. Hilarious. I know it's not supposed to be but I think it's great. I watched with a big smile. The mall actually looks heaps better then with all the trees etc. that it does now. Now there are 'monster cushions' and the whole place smells like a used ashtray.

so far i have had eliminations at days 504, 840, 1176, 1512, 1848, 2184, 2520 and 2856. today is day 2903. i have definitely found something. i am not lying. what i have discovered has gone around the world and many songs have been written about it...the foo fighters' last 3 albums.....coldplays' last 3 albums....."vertigo" by U2 (my first name is phil). an elimination is a day when you experience strong flu-like symptoms and feel terrible. bad stuff is washed out of your body.

i came up with a theory that involves the book of genesis (fig leaves) buddha (sitting under the bodhi fig tree) jesus (many sayings about figs) ross hornes' book (new health revolution) and science (figs are the most important source of food for fruit eating rainforest animals). i then experimented on the figs by eating mainly dried figs (same brand) for over 7 years now and found cycles which i related to the numbers in psgs 11/12 of the book of revelations. this theory has gone everywhere.
