Your camera operator is on their game. Your boat is pretty, and you moved her well on the first trip.

Love the new SCAMP build "Wildflower". For 2021, I am ready to buy a SCAMP kit and start this build for our family and look forward to seeing your boat someday - we're in Petaluma CA.

As we face a world pandemic and rioting in our streets, it is wonderful to see this sweet boat launched into existence.

Like your Scamp. I’m thinking of purchasing a Scamp from Gig Harbor, near Seattle. I live in Vallejo.

Congrats, what an accomplishment. Let me know when your reservation website is up and running, so I make a reservation to sail with you on Pinecrest Lake end of July 2021? Sorry we will miss you this year at the Lair.

@2:33 Are you filling a ballast tank?
@dndrich2 жыл бұрын
Yes I am! The SCAMP has a water ballast tank that adds about 180 lbs of ballast. The boat is like 425 lbs dry and 600 lbs or so with the tank full. With 25 lbs of lead in the offset centerboard, she really can take some wind and be stable.

Parabéns, lindo barco. Qual o tamanho? Qual link para comprar o projetp?

I will do my best to understand your comment, which is in Portuguese? It is 12 feet long. You can purchase plans to build your own from Small Craft Advisor magazine.

Whats the idea behind the blunt stem? You would think any sort of moderate wave action coming head on would make it difficult making any headway. Now that you've sailed her a bit have you noticed any problems in that area?
@dndrich Жыл бұрын
Ah! That is known as a pram bow. Notice that the entry in the water is standard and cuts through the water normally. The flat area is well above the water line. In severe waves beating to windward it is possible for water to contact that area, but it is irrelevant as the boat is usually at hull speed at that point. The boat is simply marvelous even in weather. The pram bow allows for incredible forward positive floatation and storage. You just can't pitch pole this boat. There are many other pram designs that have stood the test of time such as the Opti sailor, SF Bay Pelican, and many others. It is a great design. I have some other videos on my channel that shows the front of the boat at sail cutting through the water.

I believe the pram bow allows for a wider beam at a shorter overall length and simplifies construction.

How do you like the SCAMP compaired to your M15? As a current M15 owner who is contemplating a SCAMP build, I would love to hear your thoughts on the two boats, what you like about each and what you dislike.
@dndrich4 жыл бұрын
I loved my M15, and I love my SCAMP. The M15 is a wonderful boat, but I found it a handful in the driveway since the boat and trailer were #1600. Rigging took longer. And, you can't beach her. Also, no easy way to reduce head sail when under way. The SCAMP meets all my needs now. Much easier to handle in the driveway. The boat and trailer are under #800. Easier to rig and launch. Sails like a dream. I would say she handles as well as my M15, which is surprising. Points well. Very easy to reduce sail. More comfortable cockpit. And, you can beach her for lunch. I really like that. So, I'm glad I made the switch.

@@dndrich Thank you for the quick reply. Beaching would be nice and lighter weight is definitely a good thing. I do overnight occasionally in my M15, so I will have to figure out a boom tent arrangement. Looks like I will have to start clearing out garage space and will; likely start my build in the spring. Thanks again!

@ntnt Yep. Getting older. The SCAMP does some things my Monty could not do. I can beach the SCAMP, which is fantastic. And, I can row it. For my main waters in Tomales Bay the SCAMP is an ideal boat.
@dndrich3 жыл бұрын
@ntnt Oh yes, I love a Monty for sure. But the Monty is a handful in the driveway, and takes longer to rig. The SCAMP is much lighter, has a more comfortable cockpit, is easier to rig, can be beached, and has many other great qualities that makes it a good boat for my purposes. Now, any boat needs to sail well, and the SCAMP does, so that is critical. The SCAMP can be beached, and can be rowed too. It is a great boat for my home waters.
