A rocket can get a payload into space in just minutes. But preparing a rocket for liftoff will take weeks or months. There are many moving part of a rocket that needs to be brought together in a particular order within a narrow time frame. In this video we will start our journey after the payload has been assembled and on it's way to the launch pad. We will be following the countdown sequence of Ariane 5. This is the workhorse of ESA. It's also the rocket that finally launched the James Webb Space Telescope.
Important Note:
A lot of Information available for the Ariane 5 is in french. Since I'm not a fresh speaker or more precisely a french reader I had to depend on automated translations. So I may get a few things wrong about the sequence of events. Also keep in mind that as far actual times for events goes, they may differ from the most recent sequence used by ESA. So check with them first before you design your payload around the launch sequence shown here.
Additional note:
This is my first video that is 100% animation. This is why it took so long to create. Real imagery of a launch sequence is just not available so there was not choice. Also I had to create all of the 3d models in the opening except for the Ariane 5. Interestingly this video is not just the longest one to make, it also has the longest running time.
Hope you like it and leave a comment if you spot any error or just leave a comment if you like.
If you like this video please share.
Thank You for watching.

Output from the solid charge and gas generator overlap so that a certain fuel flow can be maintained during the transition from solid charge to gas generator. In the video I show it as one after the other to give the viewer a clearer visual of what's going on. If you like small KZbinr science channels check out the subreddit I've created just for that. www.reddit.com/r/SmallKZbinrScience/ Show these creators some love.

Another awesome video. I never realised so much stuff goes into a rocket launch. Obviously it does, but I'd just not thought about it. Loved the animation, loved the narration, loved the sound effects, excellent video.

Thx. Blender is becoming more powerful and fun to use for non 3d artist. I must have tried learning blender like 6 times! The thing that finally made Blender my main 3D app is when they switch from the selecting with the right button to the left. This kind of ties into your previous video with the color & words. The simple selecting with right buttons always confused my thinking process even though it's simple to remember.

Thanks. Yes in the video I did all of the 2D/3D graphics except for the modeling of the actual Ariane 5 3D model. However I still had to modify that since the original model had less detail and not textured because it was meant to be used in a 3D printer. This is so far the only video I've done that's 100% animation. It took a while. LOL

Ariane 5 has no reusable rocket engine. A rocket ENGINE combines and then burns (therefore, using) a fuel MIXTURE of two ingredients, a fuel and an oxidizer. A solid booster MOTOR (usually) deals with a mono-propellant, a single hard polymer/plastic substance with a taffy-like consistency, which is only used in solid rocket booster(s). There are complete, multi-stage rockets that exclusively use mono-propellants. There are multi-stage rockets that exclusively use multi-component fuels, which are always in gaseous-liquid form. There are also rockets that use a combination of mono-propellants and multi-fuel liquid propellant stages. But, unfortunately, there is no single engineering definition of motor and of engine and how they may be different or the same. INFORMALLY though, and ENGINE combines....air/fuel, or fuel/oxidizer, etc. A MOTOR is usually singularly propelled by a mono-propellant (solid fuel rockets), or even electricity, such as an electric MOTOR. You never say electric ENGINE, right?! So under that premise, Ariane 5 still would NOT have a reusable ENGINE, though it's solid rocket boosters' propulsion is SOMEWHAT "managed" by it's rocket MOTOR. That make sense to ya'll?! I'm a horrible teacher, lol!
