I used to take my 1981 Honda Express out to my local motocross track, and plenty of trail riding. It even has shaft drive for $495 When I brought it into the dealer after tacoing my back rim for a warranty repair they looked a little puzzled. Anyhow, I got it fixed and finally saved enough cash to get a 1982 RM125 Suzuki. That 1.5 horsepower was only a disadvantage....well, everywhere and don't even think about trying to clear a double. That 125 Cub would have like a works bike to me.

My Monkey 125 is proving itself to be a capable off-roader, I don’t see why the CT125 wouldn’t be. I hope it has better stock suspension as the Monkey is way too soft out of the crate. I get a real world 140mpg plus I carry an extra 1/2 gallon reserve fuel in ADV mode giving me a 300mi range- not too shabby! The rack, spoke wheels and snorkel intake on the CT125 are things I wish I had, so I may add a CT to the stable down the road.

Like the origional trail 90, part of the popularity was size and wieght. It was carried easily on the back of motorhomes. This meant no tow car. Tooling quietly and non threatningly around the campgrounds. Buzzing into town for milk, eggs, and a twelvepack. Or a starter bike for a 12 yr old. I have bought a 2018 Royal Enfield. A bit better bike for highway and long desert roads. I would seriously consider one of these as a second bike for backroads, and around town errands. Worth the money.

When this comes to America, I'm a guaranteed sale. I have a pretty heavily modified (+1 on the countershaft sprocket, intake, jets, camshaft, pipe, suspension, tires, rack, all the usual stuff) TW200 for my backroads/camping/trail bike. Couldn't be happier with it for my purposes, fantastic bike (though a 300-ish CC/6-speed version would be even more perfect and could be left stock and therefore more reliable). I also have another, older, more stock (+1 on the countershaft, rear shock, and an auto clutch) TW for my girlfriend or for taking someone trail riding that's not necessarily an experienced rider. The Hunter Cub should, from what I can see, be an even better, newer, more reliable, easier to ride bike for that purpose. I've been tentatively planning on buying and hopping up a Monkey 125 to replace the old TW, but this will be a much better option. I'm in.

"Adventure" bikes are promoted for the image of being able to go anywhere, and especially so for the would be "serious" world traveler. I myself have owned a boxer for over thirty years and can set it up to carry a lot of gear. But the truth is that I fucking hate touring. Not that the trip or the camping out is bad. Just that it's not that hard to overcook some corner where you discover a tightening radius, gravel, corrugations, or some other obstacle. Just in those places where a more sporting setup would make for a great day out, riding becomes a hazardous chore. The inherent stability might help, but as road conditions go down, agility becomes a higher priority, something which the CT series has always had in spades. I've ridden many CT's, mostly as an Aussie postie. Now the damned 110's fitted with mail bags can easily carry as much as my BM. A full weeks groceries (for one)? No worries. Regularly smoking guys on cruisers at roundabouts while carrying a full load? Also no worries. Like to get through the day without cramps? They're comfortable. You won't be doing any trials or jumps but the damned things can go almost anywhere. The old CT200 Ag bike was particularly good for this. And having a free hand is very handy (hee hee), although mostly for enjoying a smoke as you tool along. If you break down they can usually be easily fixed by any knucklehead. Want to cross this river in remote Borneo or wherever? Sure, we can easily get it across on our overly skinny boat. Try that with a fucking adventure bike. God knows why they ever got rid of the kick starter though. People are just so piss weak. The downsides are not so very numerous. You'll probably be well advised to avoid motorways, at least, keep well over if you can't. They are built to a price, not a standard. I'd happily buy a clean secondhand one. But avoid like the plague any that look rough or have been through many hands. And with that super short wheelbase, you can find the rear end rapidly catching up with the front if you lockup the rear. The drum brakes on the old ones can be a bit wanting in an emergency stop, but generally are OK. Just a note on gearing. The Ag bikes were geared so that you could trickle along behind a mob of sheep. Personally I found it ridiculous. It could easily be geared up quite a bit and still retain good off road ability. I did just this with an Ag bike I did up for my son. Actually got the prick up to 130kph flat on the tank and tucked in. And the trip down Macquarie pass was memorable. I fuckingwell hurled that thing down. Always felt a little uncertain entering the corners, yet always managed to find the inside line quite easily. Don't think it would be so much fun going the other way though. On the 110 you could probably only go down a single tooth at the rear (unless you like making like Fred Flintstone at the lights). Just have to see what they give you with the new one. They're fun, cheap to run, reliable, and versatile. I'd recommend one to any novice (especially over crap like those "cute" scooters). And for guys who've been riding big bikes for ages, it can be quite a delight to rediscover the joy of hurling around a small one which you can nevertheless sit on quite comfortably.

thanks for the video. very good as always. I like the small 125cc I think it is a practical product. Speaking of reliability of the KTM 😂, I would like to know if there is some kind of serious and reliable ranking that measures the mechanical / electronic reliability of motorcycle brands and their models, as there is for cars. Thanks again!!

You should do an update on it now you can get your hands on it. I would have one here in New Zealand if it didn't cost the same as a CRF300L 😬

I had one of the original 50cc cubs as my first bike at age 14, it was great fun and I am sure this one will also offer the same level of enjoyment. I assume the bike features a hidden fuel filler under the seat like the original.?

A cool camper guy like the one in the video wants his bike to weigh less than 110kg, not the Hunter Cub's 120kg. This is to keep the bike plus carrier below the 300lb max hitch weight of many vehicles, including many cool camper guy vehicles like crossovers. Other than being unable to safely carry it on the back of my vehicle, I want one.

368,000 yen is the current prices in Kanagawa, Japan, not the 440,000 yen advertised. Still pricey compared to Thailand. Thailand debut 2 Jun, Japan debut 26 June. CT is made in Thailand. Options blow the price out of the water. I'm waiting to compare it to the Honda Cross Cub 110 at about 160,000 yen cheaper. That might be the bike to buy.

I wrote honda 3 years ago and wanted 280 cc for a motor. I put down 500 $ on a new 125 in February in rapid city. They said it could be next year before it comes in as I am number 6 in line. But yellow may be available by then ?

9 HP is not that bad. The old Triump 650 cc motors only about 43 HP. If you do the math, this cub make more power with it's 125 cc than the old Triumphs did.

i HAVE WATCHED SEVERAL VIDEOS ON THE NEW TRAIL CUB AND NOT ONCE HAS ANYBODY MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT THE TWO SPEED SELECTOR ON THE TRANSMISSION THAT ALLOWS SUPER LOW GEARING FOR TRAIL RIDING LIKE THE OLD TRAIL 90'S AND 110'S HAD. DOES IT HAVE IT OR NOT?

I like it very much but when I compare it to my Italian scooter that I take offroad as well... I paid 550 euros for the scooter, it has 11hp and it weighs 99 kilograms. Anyway, Trail Cub looks waaaaaaaaaaaaay cooler. And I am sure it is more fun to ride but I'd like to try one first. Maybe I'd even buy it if the price was under 3000 euros.

I love idea of this but you can go on Craigslist and pick up a great running TTR230 or CFR230 for under $2000.

I think this would be good for some dispersed camping situations.
