My favorite Kerbal flight was shooting the Mun Arch on my way to Duna. I certainly didn't do it on my first attempt (or even my 20th if we're being honest) but flying through that tiny gap at interplanetary velocity, gaining altitude, and continuing off into space was a pretty proud moment for me, lol.

About sliding on slopes: you can right click the wheels, either in VAB or in flight, and turn up the friction control. You need to turn off the "Friction control: auto" button first, then dial it up. 2 usually works pretty well. Super high and you might flip during turns.

So (hypothetically) now that it is on the moon, how much farther out can we launch extremely large payloads? In other words, would this provide a significant bump in our solar system exploration capabilities?
@VIM3656 жыл бұрын
David Farina no, because the rocket that launched the Saturn v to the mun could take it even further, because it doesn’t need to land, or capture burn, etc.
@DavidFarina6 жыл бұрын
@@VIM365 if your goal was to use the mun (or moon in the real world) as a launch platform in a lower gravity environment and use it as landing site (for reusable rockets) it makes a lot of sense. Especially if the goal was to use lunar resources to produce goods for the outer solar system.

What is truly amazing about this is the Saturn V was designed to put in moon orbit the lunar module and the heaviest one weighed, with fuel, 36,200 pounds or 16,400kg and to do that the Saturn V was at launch with fuel 6.2 millions pounds or 2.8 million kg. And you just put that 6.2m lbs/2.8m kg on the moon, minus any fuel you used for landing. It took 6.2m lbs to get 36,000lbs to lunar orbit, the requirements to get the entire Saturn v to the moon instead of the LM must be insane. Well insane for everyone but the brave kerbals of the KSP. Let's just hope it wasn't a one way trip for 3 of those brave kerbals.
