Old school steam dryer - very damp towel with items to be steamed. This usually generates enough steam to refresh things. Not efficient, but handy.

Me too! Most people don't get it and they rather buy all kinds of perfumed stuff (softener, laundry perfume,...) to mask the smell instead of keeping their machine clean. 🤢

Same here. I open the door wide while the clothes are drying, then after I've removed them from the dryer I close the washer door until it is slightly ajar. The only time it is completely closed is when it is running.

Got a new washer/dryer set and reading through the manual (yes, I am that person) I saw they recommend leaving the washer door or lid open for a day to let it thoroughly dry out to prevent mildew growing in the machine. Our last machines lasted 27 years and I plan to get at least 20 out of these. Cleaning and airing the machines just as regular maintenance are what the dealer said made them last so long. Think of it like cleaning your shower or tub; dirt, body oils, and soap scum need to be cleaned off of both. Great video! Love seeing your baby's artwork framed on the wall. :)

Yes, always wash new clothes before wearing! I love doing laundry, I mean, how hard is it? You throw your items into one machine, then put them in another and then hang them up. Go Riley!! 💙 I'm fine with dishes or laundry. Ever since i started doing one load a day years ago never had a problem. Dishes are like giving your silverware and spoons a bath. Just give me hot sudsy water, some music and I'm good. Now if you don't rinse your stuff first we have a problem! I like clean dish water!

Love the artwork! For me I don't mind dishes or laundry, what I hate is putting them away! It's super easy if you have a dishwasher to just, ya know, load the dishes. I just hate how long it takes to put both the dishes away and to fold and put laundry away. Now, if we're handwashing dishes, or laundry, I'll do laundry all day long!

I delay start my washer every night (with that day's clothing from everyone in the house) to run at 6 am. Then, when I get home from dropping the kids at school in the morning, I switch to dryer and fold around lunchtime. I am always washing yesterday's clothing today. Game changer!

I’m in the UK and since I became medically blind both laundry and washing up became a bit hit and miss… so I automatically add stain remover to my whites (underwear), all my trousers/ T-shirts are the same types of fabric/ colours (trousers are all dark colours, T-shirts are medium depth colour and since sighted people can’t see me coming I’m replacing older T-shirts (mostly green) with bright colours (bright orange/ pink)- though how they can’t see a white cane that’s almost as tall as I 🤷‍♀️… and I bought a small “table top” dishwasher to stop finding I’d missed a bit when I’d washed up. Bonus being washing up is almost fun now- and matching outfits is a lot easier because any T-shirt an trousers combination works. And I can remain independent

Thanks for mentioning the use of a delicates bag for socks. This trick can also be used for other items if you happen to hang clothes to dry. It's ALWAYS easier to hang clothes after sorting like-with-like, so having this already done in a delicates bag saves a lot of time later--think small items like socks, underwear, washcloths, even hand towels. The idea is to SORT before you wash. If you sort as you add to the dirty laundry, then it's already done. It may seem like an odd trick at first, but I never have to look for small items in the wash. It's great!

Tip from the guy who cleans out my lint trap and hoses once/yr (worth $100!): Wash the lint trap once a month with soap and water, especially if you use dryer sheets, which contain animal fat. Along with removing lint after every load, this step keeps your lint trap working better. If you have anyone who doesn’t get why the lint trap needs to be cleaned of lint after each load, go to a door or window that has a screen. This works especially well on a windy day. Have them place their hand in front of the closed window. No air should come through (if air is coming thru, that’s a whole other problem). Then expose the screen and do the same thing. An unclean trap is like the window is closed. Nothing gets through.

Putting about 1/2cup vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser works the same as the rinse stuff for odors, at a much cheaper rate. *Added bonus: it also removes fabric softener buildup that brings towel absorbency way down.

I used vinegar until I learned that it weakens the seals in the washer so I use it as seldom as possible. Manuals warn against using vinegar. Those seals are very expensive to replace! I had one rip as I was removing clean clothes. 😢

I’ve stopped using fabric softener and my clothes are just the same. I’ve also heard that using softener can damage your machine over time. My washer has it as an optional choice.

Great video, lots of useful tips. I tried dryer balls. They kept escaping and rolling around the basement floor when I took clothes from the dryer. My solution? I keep clean dry bath towels above the dryer. I throw one in with each load. They move the clothes around, and decrease drying time, like the balls, but I don’t have to play Where’s Waldo when the dryer’s done.

The two housekeeping jobs I put off doing is putting away laundry and dishes. I finally realized that this was because at that point they were actually clean so not high on my priority list. You don't need a stream setting on the dryer. You can throw the clothes in there with a handful of ice cubes. I tried it the other day with a few shirts i forgot to hang up. It worked. Try crushed ice though so it doesn't make so much noise until it melts.

I use the quick cycle for everyday clothes during the winter. Have used it for years. I can extend my quick cycle to 25 mins. For my husband and I, this is enough. During the summer our clothes are dirtier, I use the longer cycle I use the longer cycles for dirty and bulky clothes.

I use the extra spin every time I wash clothes. I don't own a tumble drier as they are too expensive to run. I air dry everything and doing this reduces the moisture so much and the clothes dry so much faster.

Hands down, I could literally do the laundry, drying, snapping, ironing and putting away, all day! If I had the option, I would always have someone do the dishes for me. Absolutely hate it! Melissa, please help, I have recently bought an LG front loader washing machine after years of loyalty to Fisher and Paykel. The cycle names are very different, and I've noticed the settings I have are identical to yours, except I don't have the download option. Could you please help me understand these cycle settings? I don't have a "heavy" load option, so what cycle/settings should I use for that? Also, there's no "normal" option, so what do I use for that? I don't understand what the difference between "easy care" and "delicates" is, and what exactly is "mixed" for? What are the "cotton" and "cotton eco" used for? And I have a "rinse and spin" cycle, but no "rinse" only cycle 😔 I would really appreciate your help on this because the info on Google and KZbin has been very confusing!

Hang dry tip: if using a line hang on the side seam not the shoulder or hem. It drys way faster and I never get those clothes pin bumps even when my kids help hang it out. Plus I don't have to worry about the line sagging and stuff touching the ground 😁
