@@paulalarsen7697 I heard from youtuber Clean My Space that vinegar acts like a fabric softener...and it works. But don't expect your clothes to be wrinkle free. Great video thank you! I’d actually like to make a personal testament about this method. We are a family of 5 (Mom, Dad and 3 teenagers) and have a front loader washer, never buy one again! I found that our laundry wasn’t coming out as clean as I’d like plus the teenagers stuff and towels had a certain je ne sais quoi odour. So I started adding a rounded half cup of baking soda into the washers drum, filling the liquid softener slot with white vinegar and used liquid laundry detergent but only about 1/4 of the amount suggested on the bottle. From then on absolutely everything came out perfectly clean and nothing was stinky!! For towels, bedding etc I washed on the hottest setting and everything else on the coldest. A few weeks ago my washing machines motor died (it was almost 15 years old) so we needed to do it at my in-laws. Super wonderful of them but also meant that they wanted to do it and it could only be done their way. Instantly that mouldy musty stink returned! Sharing this story in hopes that it helps anyone in a similar situation. And best of all it is gloriously inexpensive and environmentally friendly with no chemicals needed! A 4 Litre jug of distilled vinegar is $2.00 at the most. Baking Soda is always inexpensive, but since I use it for many different purposes I buy a ginormous bag of it at TSC (farm supply store) 25kg for $22.22. The last great plus to using these products in your washer is that you no longer need dryer sheets! While I do use felted dryer balls it’s actually the vinegar that stops the the static. ❤️ from Shannon in Canada 🇨🇦 *I only put towels,bedding etc in the dryer. Everything else is line dried*

I read long ago that about a quarter cup of ammonia will do the trick and I've done this personally so I know. Sometimes the kids would leave the clothes in the washer overnight and the stench starts to build up. Placing them in the dryer only made it worse (these kids were oblivious to the odor). Anyway started using the ammonia and have never had the problem again ever. I also put a little bleach in if I do not have the ammonia and that helps control the bacteria also.

Tfs! Baking soda really works amazingly! I buy the wal-mart brand baking soda cause it works just as well as the more expensive brands. I did this on my daughters blankets, that I found in a garbage bag in her closet that had been there for months, & it smelled like a wet dog & stinky feet plus other smells I’m not familiar with & I used baking soda, no vinegar cause I didn’t think about it, with my regular laundry soap & that comforter came out looking & smelling brand new. Baking soda is an absolutely go to cleanser for all kinds of things in the home! Much Love and Many Blessings and Prayers to You All! 💪🙏👣💜

I used to clean offices that had refrigerators. Chicken left in fridge over the weekend produced the most discussing smell. I put a cup of vinegar in the fridge, tossed the chicken and wrote a note saying I tried my best with what I had to get the rotting smell out. I got a message back," what smell?". The fridge smells great. Therefore, yes you can put vinegar in the fridge to remove odors.

Hi. Is it possible that a moldy/mildewy laundry machine at the laundromat could be the culprit for this. I just washed some clothes that actually smell worst than they did when I washed them now. I hung them to dry and now they smell horrible…. I just wonder if the baking soda will work in a machine that has mildew or mold…?

I found out that for sour clothes or towels, running a clean water wash and rinse cycle (without detergent or fabric softener) and then running a regular wash and rinse cycle afterwards can work wonders. I had situations where I tried vinegar and I also tried peppermint soap for situations like that and none of them worked. But using the clean water cycle first before the main wash of the clothes certainly did. Never heard of baking soda method until now though.

I only use unscented products in my laundry.. (OK there are a few exceptions). But the perfumes in laundry products, etc. literally makes me sick. I have found that soaking in 20 Mule Team Borax before the cycle helps a lot. While bacteria can create stench, mold is another big problem. I have a front load washer, which I love. It came with a cleaning cycle and a recommended cleaning product. I usually look for diy substitutes, but this works so well on my washer and dishwasher, that I am willing to pay money for the lack of stress. I always use an extra rinse for my laundry, with vinegar as a softener. It doesn't not provide the same level of softness as official softeners, which include various chemicals that remain on your clothing. I use it mostly because most of the soaps etc. are alkaline, and the vinegar will neutralize, and "stripe" the clothing. Usually my clothes smell like nothing when I am done. That means they are clean.

I had some synthetic work wear which would get soaked in sweat due to physical work/ weather. My washing routine have not changed but past summer all of sudden all of my work wear would smell clean after a wash but the moment I wear them and clothing itself get warmed up due to my body heat and get moist due to sweat from work/heat/weather clothing became smelling really bad like a dirty stinky workout wears, and this will happen almost immediately and not after hours of workout. I have tried washing it multiple times, followed various types of guides from internet like vinegar, baking soda, specialized washing detergent, none of them ever worked to get rid of the stink from those same clothings. I absolutely got fed up and had no choice but to toss them in the trash as I could not handle the smell it would produce. I am sure most? some? do know that those types of clothing fabric that do help absorb, wick sweat away from body to keep you dry, etc... do work great but the absolutely the biggest down side is that those types of fabric actually do hold on all rapidly growing bacteria. Only way to keep those clothing clean from all that is to literally wash them immediately when moist from your sweat but also when wet from even from water/rain, etc... But we know that isn't really realistic to run your washing machine everyday for a 1~3 items of clothing only. So it is best to get the at least dry immediately but again... that isn't always possible either as you can only do that after long day of work hours, or after a day hike far away from home, etc... Again, running a washing machine, drier daily just isn't practical. I would only do that if water and electricity was free and I did not care for the resource consumption. So I have tried to hand wash daily for my 1~2 items of clochting but trying to dry them properly and quickly isn't so ideal as well based on time of the season, type of household you live at, etc... In the end if my clothing become stink even after a wash, etc... it basically is too late to save that piece of clothing. (i think i might have spent more on cleaning solution than the cost of these clothing) If anyone else have a method that you think really does work, have new pieces of clothing totally soaked in your sweat, toss them in laundry basket for few days, do your regular washing, repeat the sweat soaking for several more weeks or whatever time it takes for it to smell stick even after a wash,,, try your method to get rid of it. (do remember, clothing will smell fine after a wash but stink from bateria and such will happen when that same clothing before heated, wet from your sweat again almost immediately, not even after a workout)

Same here. I have really nice work pants that I can not wear anymore. Couldn’t get the stink out of the fabrics. I work indoors and as soon as I went out in the heat and came back in, bam… sticky clothes. Embarrassing for me as an upper end work environment
@xxgg
@xxgg Жыл бұрын
@@bugpack6 i also think that sweat/body deodor products doesn't help out either. Again people say to wash them as soon as you get home or end of the day. I don't know of anyone who would run a washing machine daily for 2~4 items of clothing. Those oder proof types of clothing are chemicals applied to the clothing and eventually after multiple washing, they won't be effective. For my non work clothings, i have slowly been replacing with merino wool base layers and such, especially winter layers. Expensive initial cost but I still have several that is 3~4 years old and never had any of them stink even after very sweaty day. Than again... not much choice with outter layer other than synthic for durability. I find it better to just replace those once I get any never of stink even from slight sweat and body wamth. Oh well... i have yet to find a solution that worked for me.
@hx1487
@hx1487 Жыл бұрын
I have the solution for you. If you have a top loading machine, add your clothes, let it fill up with water normally, add your detergent and then, one cup of oxi clean. If you can, use warm water. If your machine doesn't have a warm water option, just boil a kettle a pour into the machine once it is almost full with water. Let the machine work for a few minutes, then turn it off. Leave the clothes soaking in there, for at least 6 hours (8-12 works best). Then turn the machine on normally on the longest cycle, without adding more detergent. Voila! You can do the soak overnight, or during tje day while you are out working. If your machine is a front loader, you will have to do the process manually with a bucket, and after the soak, you remove the clothes from it and put them in the machine. Trust me, this works even for the stinkiest workout clothes
@xxgg
@xxgg Жыл бұрын
@@hx1487 thank you for the reply. I have actually tried multiple hours of soaking method before with same result. I exactly did not use oxi clean but tried baking soda, vinegar. Also tried cleaning detergent with I think borax. Back than while looking for possible solutions I remember watching a video of a hardcore mountain hiker who also seems to be a hardcore hiking clothing gearhead with big name brands and such talked about taking care of clothing after a many hours of hike and clothing soaking from sweat and body odor afterwards. He does talk about those synthetic clothing with odor free treatment and such but over time they will no longer function as it should due to constant sweat and washing process. He said from what he have learned over the years is that end of long hours of hike it is best to take the clothing off, get it to drying process as fast as possible. Since he is a hiker he would take off the shirt, air dry over a sunlight if possible or over a breeze. Never pack it in a plastic bag to take home.... All these are if, when possible. He said, he has tried so many methods over the years and once these synthetic clothing get to a point of stinking again rapidly even after if it smells good after wash but start to stink from body heat (exactly how I initially explained my situation), that clothing basically is at a point of no return other than toaybe boil the clothing like the old days to kill bacteria. But that was only possible for cotton type of clothing, not synthetic as that will likely destroy the clothing. So yeah, myself spent enough time and money trying various methods from the great interwebs, non worked for me. I have never tried using oxi-clean so maybe I'll give it a try again ifybcurrent work clothing get to that point of no return state again. Cheers.

I use Washing soda since it’s even stronger and then still use vinegar as my fabric softener. Also, if I can’t use warm or hot water, then I’ll use my Lysol Laundry Sanitizer. (It has to be in the rinse cycle for 16 mins though or it’s not doing anything so make sure you read the directions!) 🧺🧺

I had that washer, and really disliked it. It was an expensive rinse machine. Everything had to be pretreated and it just didn’t clean well. What do you think of it ?

Also the smells can come from the machine itself...i use the powdered oxi, works better for me than the baking soda did. At least on killing the smells from the machine.

Andrea, can you test out a laundry hack? I’ve seen many people use disinfectants like Pine Sol and Lysol, putting that in with their laundry. They say it doesn’t end up smelling like the cleaner. I’d love to know if this works since the laundry sanitizers sold at the store are way pricier and they have to be used in the rinse cycle for at least 16 minutes!) Thanks!

I worked on a farm and we used Pine Sol for our clothes. You don't smell it after the clothes are washed and dried. Also worked well on children's bedding when they are potty training.

I never understood the stinky laundry thing. Hot water, when appropriate, such as bed clothes, towels and men's cotton undergarments. Too much emphasis on using warm or even cold water is causing e-coli to exist in laundry tubs. Baking soda is a very old household remedy for this. I've been married for over 40 years and I have never had a stinky washer. Leave the door open or the lid up. Also, remove the detergent dispenser drawer if you have one. Let some air in so things dry out. Simple solutions work wonders.

Vinegar and baking soda work great. Add both to the wash cycle. Make sure your clothes are fully rinsed that's also part of the equation. Also add Vinegar alone to the 2nd rinse and rinse again. A lot of the smell is because of fabric softener it leaves a grease film on your clothes that traps everything until you get it completely out of your clothes. Not to mention how nasty it is for the environment. Also make sure your washing machine is clean if it's not clean with no stench how are your clothes going to get clean???? So cleaned dry with no stench before you start. I actually had a friend that never cleaned her Washer and it made the whole house stink. Yuck!!!!! Had to school her she never thought about it. Really.

dont use vinegar in washing machines. You wont like what it does to natural rubber seals. When rubber sap is harvested from trees, vinegar is used to coagulate it for transport. Imagine that. Exposing your ! machine's rubber seals to a compound that hardens it. 💧💧💧💧
