CB: Great interview with Brent Bollock. He comes across as being an extremely competent investigator, but he is mistaken when he states that the FBI sourced a hair found in Bundy's vehicle to Laura Aime. During the pre-trial hearings involving the murder of Caryn Campbell, FBI hair-comparison specialist Robert Neill, testified that hairs found in Bundy's vehicle were "microscopically indistinguishable" from the hair exemplars of Caryn Campbell, Melissa Smith, and Carol DeRonch. The following is Neill's testimony at that hearing. Neill: “In my experience, I can’t recall a situation in which hairs from three alleged victims were microscopically identified from one common source, such as the interior of an automobile." Neill was provided with hair exemplars from Laura Aime, but he concluded that none of the hairs found in Bundy's vehicle microscopically matched those exemplars.

That Owen guy is obnoxious. "Me me me, i'm so special, look at my awards and how highly people think of me!" His lack of training when the case started is irrelevant--it doesn't take a genius to know you don't throw away evidence; it's a no-brainer to understand the concept of 'proof.'

Great job, Cap. As always. One aspect of this poor girl's timeline is often overlooked. Given that Laura was said by the medical examiner to have been alive for WEEKS after Bundy took her on October 31, it's likely that Debbie Kent - abducted on November 8th - was in her presence as well. I know we tend to believe Ted when he told Dennis Couch about her being with him for 24 hours before driving her to her final resting place, but I don't believe it. Perhaps these two young women shared space together. Rather than thinking the Lake Sammamish two-fer was an anomaly, I tend to think it was more the "rule." As long as Ted had a secret lair (not his normal apartment) I can imagine this easily. And, after seeing the Susan Curtis episode, it's easy to see how this could have been pulled off if he indeed had a trailer in Fairview.
@CaptainBorax
@CaptainBorax 11 ай бұрын
Hey there, thanks so much. I always thought the medical examiner Serge Moore made a bad call with this story. She was just covered in snow in cold Temps for the 3 weeks, prolonging decomp with Laura. It's long an exhausting but any farmer would tell you that happens with animals all the time. Even Owen Quarnberg said that's what happened with her. If you look closely at Laura, Debi, Melissa and Caryn, it's obvious to me that he assaulted each girl, and simply threw them down an embankment

Said it before but will again. All these videos that you have posted are extremely impactful, and they all hit hard in different ways ranging from the stories of survivors Karen Sparks and Kathy Kleiner (Because you'd mentioned that, I just got Kleiner's book on my audible free trial along with a West Memphis 3 related book, and I am loving the pre-Bundy anecdotes from Kathy's high school years; with her story about catching mono even making me laugh!) to the strength of Lynette Culver's family to just how shocking of a gut punch the facts around the Debi Kent abduction were for me. Learning about Laura was impactful as well, as I found her to be quite relatable as a human being (as I did learning about Susan Rancourt who was one of his Washington victims) among the victim's/survivors you've profiled, and I'd imagine I am hardly alone in that regard amongst people who have seen your content. Your work makes them a lot more than a paragraph in a true crime book, and as great as Ann Rule was, there is only so much that can be said in an allotted amount of pages (particularly when there are so many victims involved). And Ann Rule had a well deserved reputation as being an advocate for the rights of victims of violent crime. At any rate, it seems like Owen Quaranburg's heart is really in the right place now, and that he has many regrets. Listening to how he is talking to you, anyways. So many people are not willing to acknowledge their mistakes, and at least Owen is being a stand up guy and admitting what he did wrong at around 41:10. And I have to say that I do respect that. So many people out there are, all too often, not willing to acknowledge that. Even with the passage of so much time. I can only imagine how many true crime related documentaries I have seen in which officers who made mistakes of this magnitude were simply unwilling to admit they were wrong. And would probably rather dress as Voldemort for the rest of their lives than admit they were wrong with regards to a serial murder case!!!!!! Sadly, a major ball was dropped here, as listening to what I am hearing in this video, it REALLY sounds like there may well have been enough eyewitness and even physical evidence to charge Bundy with this particular murder had he not escaped and gone to Florida. And, especially if he'd been acquitted for Caryn Campbell had Colorado actually managed to keep him in his cell(!) this could have been a good back up to try for a murder conviction. Albeit back in Utah, instead. We will never know, because Colorado had some serious slippery fingers and the consequences of that were obviously catastrophic for Kathy Kleiner and for so many others. This is a tragic case of how lack of communication between counties (let alone states) provided a vacuum for someone so cruel and dangerous to take advantage of. And this is hardly the last of an assortment of incidents of botching relating to Bundy cases in the Western states. I remember reading how, in Washington for example, how the medical examiner's office actually lost the Sammamish victim's remains that, one would hope, could eventually have been returned to the families for burial. And it's just sad that, in this case, there was such a lack of coordination between departments. On top of the loss of their daughter who only got 17 years, what really seems like another wonderful family (needless to repeat, Evelyn was amazing!) got so badly hurt that way. Even more than they already had been by their loss in the first place. RIP Laura. :(

Nice stuff, thanks for that! Yes, its a complex mess isnt it, the whole saga? If it wasnt so serious I would say it reminds me of that old Shogun series. The Laura Aime story has always disturbed me, it was so neglected. Seems so typical of the way we treat our lower socio economic families in this country or anywhere really. No attention, she was just a runaway crazy teenager...
@justinharris5434
@justinharris5434 7 ай бұрын
@@CaptainBorax yes but also a very beautiful and compassionate "runaway crazy teenager" whose family and friends cared about her very much. And apart from seeing what you put off with Evelyn, I also saw the footage of her mom on the archive of the Bundy execution and what amazes me (even as a strong death penalty opponent) that she would actually feel GUILTY about wanting Bundy to be executed. That hit too. And she also looked absolutely devastated. And so many people in the US (and worldwide) are on the lower socioeconomic rung and we see them get treated like dirt time and again. With the Green River victims for example it often took them 2-3 years to be reported missing in the first place!

@@CaptainBorax He told one of the detectives he killed one in front of the other, but then he told someone else he didn't. I don't think people realize the horror these poor women went through, he made out that he KO'd them, put them on their stomachs, entered them from behind and strangled them to death without them even knowing. But the damage to their Skull's just completely goes against that. They found Pieces of skulls, MASSIVE breaks especially in their jaws (he mentioned a couple of times about damaged jaws with the crowbar), You're a HUGE not fan but lets say investigator. Im exactly the same as you but I'm in ireland. I've followed these cases closely for years. It's been so frustrating though, as your country seems to Alien to me... just endles highways, i mean endless.. desert terrain mountains and more terrain. Ireland is only 450miles squared. We don't have those massive straight roads etc. I'd love to come over there and spend some time wit you going over some of the lesser known things in these cases, Such as did he bring the first victim he killed on his shoulder back to his own house? If so, he seemed to bring most of them back there, the girl in bountiful, he drove her all the way back, I think Poor Melissa Smith got the worst of it... He had her for over a week alive... in that house., what the F*CCCCK was the man doing with her, she wasn't KO'd that whole time as she would have died... WHAT was he doing with her, same thing with Laura Aime, she was there. Did he bring themto the basement to molest and shove metal objects inside of them while they were alive? When did he wash her hair and paint her nails etc, all this stuff would be great for us to investigate, the DETAILS that no one knows only people who really listen... woulc you give me a tour?

@@boogiestreet594 Bundy almost abducted Carol Daronch on November 8th, 1974, one week after Halloween, therefore he had already finished his business with Laura Aime. A lot of speculation on these cases but timelines are important. Laura was likely killed that very night by Ted Bundy with a crowbar, his MO, hence the huge gash on the side of her skull, the same MO he tried to abduct Carol Daronch with a week later. The good news is that Laura didn't go through all the torture people speculate about, although her body certainly went through strange acts by a very strange and sick man.
