John takes a quick moment to educate the viewers about concrete cloth and how it is used to protect pond liners from burrowing creatures before taking off with his friend Tim. Tim Wood, Aquascape Water feature Artist Of The Year 2020, is owner of Aquatic Edge in Pittsburgh, PA. John & Tim jump in a truck with Greg Wittstock, The Pond Guy, and head off to LA on a “road trip” within a “road trip”?? To visit a friend of Greg’s who owns a place known as Jay’s Prehistoric Pets!
One of our editors here at Modern Design is from Brazil, so the type-o’s of peoples names and titles have to be forgiven LOL! Brian Helfrich “Helfrige”, Aquascapes VP of construction, Ed The Pond Professor, and some others heckle us as we leave for L.A. to visit Jay and the multitude of creatures that inhabit his store? , zoo? , habitat? I am not sure exactly what to call it.
Jay pulls a massive 100 pound Alligator Snapping Turtle out of his tank for the pond guy to hold (since Greg likes turtles). Then a small Cayman tries to eat Greg’s hand (I like being the camera guy at this point)! Later in the visit the guys take some time to fix a leaky pond feature inside Jays store and discoveries are made! They find an Australian Lung Fish hiding inside the skimmer and John pulls a HUGE Matamata Turtle out that was hiding in the rocks!
Back to the Clery’s pond they go for day 2 of the build, John gives you a quick walk-through of the project progress while explaining the importance of “rock-out-cropping” in a large waterfall project. He then takes a few minutes to talk about the beach aspect of the feature where the kids will play and how the reservoir infiltration-area works and how access can effect the price of a feature.
