My impression of the 1st several seconds of this cover was that it was hacked up, I continued to listen and came to the conclusion that Laura & the band reassembled this superbly, love Laura's version!

No, she is from France. She'll sing in English and speak in French. The tune is by Jimi Hendrix and this is a very good version of his break out hit from the late 1960's.
