Certainly one of the most astonishing achievements of any human being. Not the sailing, the incredible rapid growth of capacity in every part of the human existence. Well,yeah, the sailing too. I have so many more questions. As a veteran sailor myself, with over 45 years experience,i can not match hers in the smallest way. At 65, I have a lot to learn from this wonderful exceptional person. I don't know where to begin.

Having made 7 transocean passages, I am in awe of Laura's accomplishments not only as a 14 year old but also as a solo sailor. True inspirational!

WE have lost that, being with family and enjoying the simpler things in life What a shame!!!! It takes a 14year old to show us that!! God Bless You, nuff nuff peace and love

Thank you for living life your way! Through your videos, you allowed this old Navy sailor to experience how I wanted to live my life.... but didn't. Take care, keep the sails full, and God Bless.

All the special conditions where united in her upbringing to make this possible but that was not enough. She still had to be a special kid with a uniquely driven mind and free spirit to pull this off. Her winning sailing competitions at a young age was probably a strong indication of a gifted kid but still: how many parents would let their 14 years old alone to the oceans? Unique and crazy family for the adventure of a lifetime.

She has a combination of persistence, competence, and emotional resilience that is hard to match. Her father taught her sailing and boat maintenance, her mother taught her vision. Neither of them "babied" her. That is how you do it. And that is how she did it.

Laura Dekker was the youngest person to circumnavigate the world with stops. But Jessica Watson was the youngest person to circumnavigate the world non stop at 16. A great achievement by both Women.
@sealover58614 жыл бұрын
And don't forget Abby Sunderland. Even if she failed she still sailed more than halfway around the World and is still the youngest person who has rounded Cape Horn alone. I admire all these girls and I have their books too, these books tell a lot about the difficulties before they could start their trips and none of these girls had rich parents either. It was indeed a little easier for Jessica because Australia seems to have a more positive attitude to attempts like this, and she pretty much became a national hero after she completed her trip.
@tyforsyth75464 жыл бұрын
@@sealover5861 Jessica had a mountain of negativity to wade through before she set off, including the courts trying to work out a way to stop her. Then on a practice sail she collided with a ship. I was actually quite disgusted at how the media were treating her. I was thrilled that she still went out there and succeeded!
@sealover58614 жыл бұрын
@@tyforsyth7546 Yes, you're right. And I've read her whole book, indeed a few years ago. The collision didn't exactly made it easier for her either. I just said it was "a little" easier for her than for Laura - but she was also older. Laura was only 13 when she attempted to go. Anyway, these trips seem to have been a "boom" then. I haven't heard about that anyone have tried to brake this record since Laura did it in 2012.
@hansolo21214 жыл бұрын
@Woghole If you have been to school you'll know that the age difference between 16 and 14 (!) is HUGE in terms of development. Both girls deserve tremendous praise. But Laura at her age was a bit more special and on a different level than Jessica. That is a fact.
@woghole23604 жыл бұрын
@@hansolo2121 i gave them both praises and called them both Women because thats what it took for what those two young women achieved. But your entitled to your opinion. About the age difference between 16 and 14 (!) is HUGE in terms of development. It just seems rather weird and spooky how you worded your comment. Because know one else has posted anything like that, very strange indeed.Enjoy your day!

Laura Dekker never sailed solo. She was constantly accompanied by tracking boats to help her. Jessica Watson made a true non-stop solo trip around the world.
@williammccoy7127 Жыл бұрын
Laura was not accompanied but she did have stop overs ,unlike Jessica, these trips were different ,i would say Jessica her trip was most challenging. But Laura objective was different then Jessica,Jessica wanted to make a record non stop around the world . Laura wanted to explore the world. Visit different places. That is like apples and oranges..

" I decided to stay with my dad. My sister stayed with mom" What can we reduce from.this ? The daughter that grew up with a male figure and influence , sailed around the world at 14 -16 years of age. The younger daughter did what? Now I'm not saying that only because Laura stayed with dad, that she gained all her bravado . However, without that masculine influence, do you think she would actually do what she did ? I seriously doubt it.
@hannahaspn5 жыл бұрын
yes I do because she took the genes from both her mother and father, while her sister went on to still accomplish great things because she took the performing genes of the parents. it isn't who they grew up with its who they are and how much determination they had and what they are most suited to/like best
