When you first hear about Laura Dekker and how she sailed around the world on her own when she was only 14 years old - it sounds just unbelievable. But after talking to her about her upbringing and all the influences in her early life, it makes perfect sense that she has become the person that she is today.
"I think I am really lucky to have found what I really want to do so early in life", Laura says. She was 7 when she had the first idea to embark on this great adventure. Laura describes how as a child we have a spark and an energy that we lose when we become adults. "As a child it is really simple, you don’t overthink it. You just decide, plan and do it." Her parents gave her the freedom to go her own path - also they were always less worried about her being alone on the open ocean than on land.
Today she tries to share her experience with others and to teach children more than what they can learn at school. Check out our interview to learn about Laura and her project.

very interesting and personally honest girl who has done much to honor life, herself and her father. this interview demonstrated that she is very much about continuing to grow. but i think the star of this interview was the one asking the great questions. this Chiristoph guy demonstrated a real depth of compassion and patience for the human spirit. a number of times he evoked from Laura the statement: "That is a good question." and you could watch her dig into herself to find an honest answer. thus, he was an agent of growth for her in the course of the interview. thanks.

Looked at in one way, what she did was to do what she wanted to do, but tempered with the understanding that most things in life take preparation. She also didn't care about what society thought of what she did. That's the key. And her father. That guy is a Good Man. He put her on his shoulders, and it sounds like he wants nothing but to boost her in her life.

The girl is a living legend. I really appreciate what she is doing now with her husband and chid mentoring the young people at sea.

Laura is so grounded and practical a true inspiration. What she said about learning needs to be equal of theory and practice is spot on.

You lived a dream at 14 that I'm still dreaming about much older. Well done sounds trite. Out of it all you sound great.

as a child, you have your parents looking out for you. as an adult, you are on your own. ... fear of failure creeps in. the world looks a little more impossible without that emotional and psychological safety net.

a awesome young woman that had many real experiences to share and this interviewer asks the strangest questions that make the whole experience like some super natural complex experience - nothing against Laura as I have the deepest respect this guy is just asking questions that are almost understandable. Probably shouldn't have let him interview her - just my take on it really annoying interview of a wonder woman

she is an amazing sailor and a hero. the content here is really lacking. the Q&A really does not explore much interesting territory. In the not-so-far future, solo voyagers will be attempting to go to space and the moon instead of traveling over oceans, and solo sailing navigations have been studied by NASA for the deep details which these sailors discover about mental capacity and physical exhaustion. The talk kind of goes there at 27:00 but the questions are too vague to reveal anything interesting. Dekker is not a philosopher she is a doer.

In an interview like this, I ask the questions I think are interesting and which are not scripted. These may deviate from those you find interesting. I was really interested in how she became the incredible person she is, what is driving her and not in the sport or activity she does and what possibilities there are for this. I'm pretty sure many others find these aspects as interesting as I do :)

Laura Dekker is the youngest to sail around the world with stop's. Jessica Watson is the youngest to sail around the world non stop/without stop's.

Indeed, but she didn't find that worth it, because she wanted to see the world (like on land) , other cultures etc.
