I bought a baggy black hoodie with the word "dysphoria" printed across the chest. It had a blurry 3d glasses style effect on the text. Pink. Blue. and White. I thought I was being funny. But every time I need it, I feel like the joke is on me. Like I pre-emptively wound up to kick myself while I was down. But then Sometimes, a handful of times. someone will see me if I'm wearing it out, and if they understand the context, they try to peak into the hood to give me an encouraging smile. I love that hoodie so much.

I appreciate the attempt to like make a song about a common transfem experience but its entirely to generalized and doesnt reallt have alot to say under the hood. Im sorry ive just listened to alot of trans music and sometimes it feels like people flock to the lowest common denominator when speaking about dysphoria in music. Like this feels really surface level and lacks a level of lyricism to be anything more than a crowd pleaser live show trans anthem.

that’s because dysphoria hoodies aren’t an exclusively transfem thing. this isn’t an exclusively transfem experience. all sorts of trans people have dysphoria hoodies or their own version of it. i love that its generalized BECAUSE i as a trans man can also relate to it. she’s written other songs that are more about the transfem experience, like Transgender Dysphoria Blues.

Friendo, I'm not even trans but the physical changes the last several years of medical problems have me in massive levels of physical dysphoria. The weight loss, the massively declined strength, the... *other problems*... And that's not getting into the problems from the massive levels of medications in ingesting daily. It was a transfem friend that sat me down and told me this is dysphoria. This fucked up thing I feel, wanting to peel myself out of this body that isn't what I want it to be anymore is in fact dysphoria. And tbh it seriously made sense of so much I was and am feeling. And I'm sorry, I really am. I cannot imagine having lived this my entire life considering how heavily it sits on me just for a few years now. And I type this sitting in my kitchen in a size xlt hoodie. 😑
