This song alone deserves 10 Grammys. It's the human soul in the form of music.

I utterly love this song and this is not a criticism, but someone listening to this with me just realised that the strings from 3:44 have same melody as "everybody hurts, everybody cries" from Everybody Hurts by REM. I wonder if that was deliberate

I’m so glad Laura stayed true to herself. While the likes of George Ezra, Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding sold out at the first opportunity..... Laura Marling kept churning out these beautiful pieces of music. Thank you 🙏

I will just have to add there are so many more folk artists who are also doing great stuff that isn't plain pop numbers. Father John Misty is amazing, definitely give Pure Comedy a listen

The artists you mention here only manage to elicit a ‘meh’ reaction from me. Ezra, Sheehan and Goulding all so overrated and commercial (damn, that woman’s name (Ellie Goulding) sticks in my throat every time I say it, probably because I absolutely loathe her voice. She’s one of the most overrated singers out there and yet people love her?! I don’t get it?) Anyway, Laura Marling has a beautiful that’s also a uniquely versatile and surpasses the others by leaps and bounds.

@@manaspradhan8041 Pure Comedy sounds like Elton John and Billy Joel and a few others. Nothing unique or particularly interesting, but Laura Marling is something special. That said, her music isn’t original or in a category of its own ... it’s folky and very Joni Mitchellesq, BUT, she writes some truly beautiful songs and performs them stunningly.

@@Tuffetti I would disagree with putting down FJM's music as simply a by-product of Elton John and Billy Joel. He's pretty instantly recognisable, with his satyrical and, often very dry lyricism. Also his albums have gorgeous production AND he's a wonderful musician (especially a ridiculous drummer). If you haven't got on with his music so much, his latest release (god's favourite customer) is probably his most personal and natural sounding record.

Clicked through to see what was new, strange synchronicity, I also put out a song called 'For You' this week. (At the time a song for an unborn child who is now 16 m/o ❤) Another gorgeous lot of songs from Laura Marling, that's my night sorted :)

Also really nice if you don’t. You’ve managed to pigeonhole a beautiful song by inferring that it’s only a nice song if you have a daughter.
