Having gone pretty far down the rabbit hole of hobby metal-working and purchased a lathe and mill, I always want to dope-slap myself when I see a real artist get it done with simple tools I had already owned from way back but never thought to put to such use. Nice work.

Hey Laura, I'm needing some additional lighting in my shop. I know this video is 4+ years old but thanks for providing the inspiration with these lamps! I currently do not weld so I have to modify to my abilities and available resources. Keep up the great work and inspiration. Your work is a gift. Prost!!

Lovely steam punk look with gun blueing patina, & once it's in place it looks like it has always been there: Useful, practical & harmonious. I have used the washer trick for rounding corners, but always by hand file, never occurred to me that a belt sander would as good & much faster: Inspiration & education, thank you!

Wow! I love the minimalist use of tools! Most of the makers on KZbin would have used about $5000 more equipment, but you produced a working scissor linkage with a grinder and a drill press! That takes some skill!

Nice idea, Laura. I have in my workshop a bell which I made out of a small disposable propane bottle of the type used in the USA. I cut the bottom off at just the right place (lucky) and it rings very loud and "true". I hang it from a piece of wire through the valve top, which I drilled a hole in. Nice work.

Lovely concept! I like it. Washers in between the arms would prevent scrapping of the black finish on the insides, and auto locking nuts (or clamping them) will provide many more actuations before something gets loose. Also, putting tape around before grinding, protects from unwanted marks. (unless the "quick bad finish" (read in a constructive way) was intended)

Came here from This Old Tony's channel. Nice video! Nice lamp too! Goes to show that those of us who don't have a fully equipped machine shop can still do neat stuff. You're scaring me with that grinder though!
@Match21008 жыл бұрын
Another great video! I love the way you put it together! Just a suggestion for when you have to do the same operation to a lot of individual parts (drilling, shaping), stack them and tack them together. While each hole will take longer to drill, it'll cut down your overall time at the drill press and all the holes will be in exactly the same spot (as long as all the parts were lined up when tacked together!) if you tacked at the ends you could start rounding the corners off and then as you get to the final shape, grind off the tacks. That way you wont have burn marks in the middle of your part.
@rigfix8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Laura. Nice job! I did not know about that trick with the washer during grinding. So I learned something new today :)

Coole Idee, klasse umgesetzt.
@laurakampf8 жыл бұрын
+Peter Holschbach natürlich ist die lampe geerdet! wenn man 7 tage die woche in der werkstatt steht kann man sich schonmal verletzen...das ist eben so wenn man so viel mit den händen arbeitet

Awesome! Love the creative reuse of the gas nozzle covers, and the washer tip for rounding the ends of the steel stock. I can't get enough of that fabric covered insulated cord, use it for everything (so far two pendant lamps and two desk lamps). Can't wait to see what else you make!

oh yeah, these cords add a lot of quality to every project! don´t use anything else anymore either :)
@AdricM7 жыл бұрын
I love this, and this scizor design is actually really handy for making a marking gage that spaces marks evenly over a wide number of distances. Its not youtube unless someone gives their own bright idea, but for the wall mount, id suggest instead of welded tabs welding or bolting it to a sturdy hinge so you have a nice left/right control too to put hour light where you need it or let it swing closer to the wall
