Laura, don't feel bad about loading the Bobcat on the trailer, the difference is Grant reversed it on, the weight is at the back of the Bobcat, that makes it easier to load. If only somebody had told you that at the time, you did it. What a good job of the clean-up you both did. Love from Mike. ❤
@tmeyer2022 Жыл бұрын
My dad would mow the roadside ditches to keep the weeds knocked down. It was always my job to "Clean-out" any junk (glass bottles, scrap metal, etc.) and other things that could cut a tractor tire or damage the equipment. I can recall a day in the early 1960's where I cleaned the ditch in the morning, and my dad mowed in the afternoon. Someone threw a thick glass bottle out of their car (Littered) into the ditch. It cut the tractor tire which cost $400 to replace (plus several hours of labor). That was a HUGE cost in those days. That bad memory has stuck with me all of those years.

Will be traversing Nebraska on I-80 next week, headed to the little Iowa town out 'between the corn rows' where I was raised, for a reunion. Anxious to see the tall corn and compare the NE and IA crops! Looking for straight rows along the way. Very much enjoy watching Grant and Laura working and just being a couple together. Their shared love is beautiful and heartwarming. God bless you both!

Hey Laura and Grant, good to see you today! Grant you sure have a soft touch and handle the controls on that skid steer well and do an excellent job operating it! I have to admit I was surprised to see Laura shy away from loading up the skid steer. She's always given me the impression that she'll do most anything and has certainly shown herself to be more than capable to do so. She was simply heading the wrong direction in her other attempt and that would be more difficult for anyone. Laura, you are one absurdly attractive farmer! You have the brightest and pretty eyes that just make you so darned cute! I also love that slight raspy tone in your voice. You guys are always upbeat and in good spirits and are a joy to watch your videos. I was very impressed with you words and attitude about the stewardship of that acreage you rent. It speaks volumes about you and how you were brought up. You two are my favorite farmers and I appreciate and thank you for what you do providing food crops. Larry, Bakersfield, Ca.

Grant. I'm so sorry the corn field was ruined. I can imagine how you feel over that disaster. The same for Laura if it was her field. I can't remember who's field the corn field is. I wonder how many farmers manage to deal with the devastating impact of losing so much money when it's costs way too much to plant in the first place. Losing so much afterwards for a sale of the crops with profit and with the loss of the seeds and fuel to plant them in the first place is a nightmare. I'm not a farmer, however, I can imagine yours and Laura's pain over this. I'm so sorry.

The construction site story reminded me of this from a Navy training manual, 'Basic Machines and How They Work' you can find online. "Remember how you mouth hung open as you watched movers taking a piano out of a fourth story window? The fat guy on the end of the tackle ease the piano safely to the sidewalk with a mysterious arrangement of blocks and ropes. Or perhaps you’ve been in the country and watched a farmer use a block-and-tackle to put hay in a barn. Since old Dobbin or the tractor did the hauling, there was no need for a fancy arrangement of ropes and blocks." Yeah, I'm pretty old and only ever saw that in an Abbott and Costello movie or Bugs Bunny cartoon.

In big cities when there is building construction going on, they put up plywood walls between the site and the sidewalk so pedestrians can walk safely. They also cut basketball sized holes along the length of the wall and at various heights so people can look in and watch. So, no, its not weird to go to see construction sites. It's fun!
