Thanks for this. I've been itching to add a few new colors to my palette. I've never liked granulating pigments until recently when I painted an elephant for a nursery. The granulations completely made the piece! It made the elephant's skin texture jump off the paper. I'm hooked now. Just ordered every one of these! 😂🤣😃

I have just been re-reading your email from 19 April that accompanied the link for this video and you mentioned the original Melting Pot class and revisiting the lessons (great idea). I loved what you did when you returned to your Melting Pot class. It would be interesting to have an updated Melting Pot-type lesson with new techniques and approaches. I do need to get back into watercolour play.

Oh I love this video SO much! Learning about new colors and their properties. I try to mix dupes when I can, like the cascade green, etc, but I see I will be purchasing a few that I can't mix on my own. I especially love the Duochrome Autumn Mystery! Thanks for sharing. ♥

I have a post on Instagram from a couple of years ago now where I mixed all the Daniel Smith colours I had first with Buff Titanium and then with white so I coukd see what pastel colours I could create. It's such a useful reference and created some gorgeous colours, especially with the Buff Titanium 😊

This is so timely. I fell in love with the Danial Smith watercolors too and wanted to add to my starter pac. The very first pick was the Buff titanium ! I LOVE it and I used it just the way you suggested here, giving what I was painting a more muted color pallet. Another choice I made was the Janes Gray. I’ve always loved payne’s gray so I thought I’d see what this new color is all about. It is more a true gray without all the blue, so I’m very happy to have added it and can see many uses for it. This was a really good tutorial for these wonderful paints.👍👍

Just found your channel and love your colour mixes. My small Daniel Smith collection overlaps in a lot of colours with yours so I will try some of your suggestions. My favourite Daniel Smith colour mix is Indanthrone Blue with Quin Burnt Orange for brown/grey/black.

All so beautiful! I’m captivated. I don’t use watercolors much…mostly acrylics. How would I transform the watercolor colors you use to acrylic colors? Do you have a video on this. And any acrylic videos that you have done! I love love your work and love love your colors! Thank you for all you do! Charlotte

I also love cascade green. It's a mix of PBr7 and PB15. Probably raw sienna and phtalo blue red shade. I wonder how it might mix with rose of ultramarine. I like to mix it with quin rose to get moody purples and greys.

My favourite thing to do is swatching and watching this just gave me all the good feels!! ❤️ I love that you created a Potters Pink as I do have that colour but find it isn't as intense as I would like. It can be quite transparent. I was just in Art to Art this morning and bought a few acrylic inks (thanks to your reply from the other video) as well as a couple tubes of DS as they are my favourite as well....but it looks like I might have to add these to my list as this palette is exactly what I am drawn to.

I really loved this video! It wasn't the typical swatching and because I, too use Daniel Smith the most, it was really interesting to see how you use the Buff T and one of the Duochrome colors. I've never really known what to do with the one I have and didn't like it as much on its own. I do really like the Autumn Mystery as a shimmery pinkish color, though. Thank you! You have yourself another loyal subscriber! ❤ Happy painting! 🎨🖌

An excellent video that is full of helpful tips and ideas I'd never thought of with those paints. I've only got one Duochrome paint, the Oceanic colour, so you've given me a great idea to mix it with a complimentary colour and mute it down a bit, but still capture the sparkles. Subscribed 😊

Thank you for such a lovely swatching video! I always enjoy watching the mixes that you come up with. I rarely think to mix three colors together...even though I see you do it so often in your classes. And I would not have thought to mix Indanthone Blue and Goethite - I have been looking for a deep brown. I have all these colors except Rose of Ultramarine - so I think I need to play with some mixes. Thanks again and have a wonderful day!

I think you jinxed me! I saw this comment and didn't have a chance to reply, but then over the next few days I broke almost all my nails 🤣 I started getting my nails done with my daughter around Christmas time as a treat. They have been holding up well as I mostly work with watercolour and things are pretty clean, but I think if I was doing a lot of acrylic painting they would get damaged pretty quick. I learned my lesson though, I won't be letting them grow so long next time.

Hi again Laura…I tried the Goethite which I bought a while ago, but never really found a use for. I tried it again in modest amounts to mute a whole range of colours and it works really well…producing interesting slightly muted shades with a bit of granulation. Thanks to you I’ve now found a use for it. 😊. I’m also a fan of Cerulean Blue Chromium, but I’m not so sure about Indanthrone Blue. I loved its deep blue when wet, but it becomes a rather dull blue when dry and lightens dramatically. Any advice on this? So far the only mix I’ve been satisfied with is Indanthrone Blue and Quinacridone Violet which produces a lovely deep blue wet or dry.
@LauraHornArt
@LauraHornArt Жыл бұрын
You are right about the indanthrone blue, the colour shift is big from wet to dry. I often paint over it with a second layer to deepen the colour.

It’s been a while Daniel Smith has been claiming their watercolor to be vegan at least from 2017. That would mean there’s no ox-gall, animal glycerine neither honey.
This is for elders that have been painting with DS watercolors for a long time. Have you perceived any difference regarding this watercolor performance from the old tubes to the new tubes?
