I too get overbogged on my paintings, trying too hard I suppose, and it gets discouraging. You always lend a sense of ease to me in that I do need to carry on with practice but maybe try a different approach in my layering. Thank you, Laura for sharing your pages, it helps a lot to see how a talented artist thinks.

Has anyone mentioned the Australian lady Sarah Renae Clark who has 2 boxes each filled with cards showing hundreds of colour combinations? On one side of each card she puts 5 colour swatches and a photograph of objects using those colours and on the back of the card she shows light, medium and dark of each colour. I love looking through them seeking colour inspiration. You can watch people unboxing the cards on KZbin.

Love this video. Can I ask - I have a gelly roll 10 white pen and I can't get the ink to flow. Is the oen faulty or am I using it wrong?
@millydaisy29Күн бұрын
Next question - would you mind telling me the exact name of the glue you used and is it suitable for gluing all types of paper to a painting? I don't know much about mixed mediums yet as I only have used watercolours up to now and I am just a beginner. Thanks very much 🌺

Wonderful ideas about how to build after an initial background, thank you! I'm excited to get to my art desk now! I'm curious about the music you have playing...will you please share a music credit? (Watch it be Taylor Swift and everyone reading this will think I live under a rock. Hahaha!)
@LauraHornArtКүн бұрын
I love that this video has you excited to create! That is what I always hope for. We license royalty-free music through a subscription service called Soundstripe. There is definitely no Taylor Swift in the catalogue!! The songs are by an artist called Cira Grandi, the first one is called My Roots and the second song is called One More Chance.

for someone who repeatedly gets told she is overworking pieces and should learn to pick up the important bits of a piece, ur approach of going back and pushing thru is a fresh breath of air.
@LauraHornArtКүн бұрын
I love that! It's pushing through; that's key. Almost all my art pieces are "overworked" at some point in the process. It's fun trying to tame them!

I am so sorry for the loss of your pet-as an animal lover I send you my heart felt condolences. I truly understand the loss of a beloved dog. I too use my art as a soul need. My husband has been diagnosed with cognitive decline. I am often isolated in our tiny condo taking are of him, our condo and our rescue dog. Not only am I grieving his many physical and mental changes i am grieving the loss of my beautiful art studio and business. We used to live in rural SW Michigan and was lucky enough to have deigned and built a 750 sq. ft. art studio/gallery. I was a member of the Blue Coast Artists and was a working artist making highly textured handmade papers from the plants I grew in our 2 1/2 acre garden that I designed, planted and managed. I was highly active in the local art community, had an art gallery that sold the work of 25 other artists and had been chosen as the Artist-in-Residence at the Indian Dunes National Lakeshore. It was a magical and creative life. Then my husband was diagnosed and we had to leave that property that we were no longer able to maintain and manage. Space is limited in our condo but I set up a tiny art table in our sunporch and even though some days I can only work there 30 to 60 minutes my sketchbook is always there waiting for me. Obviously I cannot make paper these days but I am teaching myself to use paints and inks for the first time. Your KZbins are one of my favorite sources. THANK YOU!

We are in the middle of a heat wave here in SW Michigan so spending more time indoors right now. I am catching up on your FB posts etc. I am really enjoying 5-part your series this week. I LOVE your trick of using thin masking tape to make a perfect grid. (I have been measuring to get that look and your trick seems SO much easier.) I've also been using white pencils and white China markers but am now anxious to try out the white POCA pens you mention. THANK YOU for sharing your great ideas and sketchbooks.

Glad you've been enjoying the videos, I never have the patience for measuring grids, the tape makes it so much easier!!

I admire the idea of writing down what you used. I would write this on a post-it-note though (rather then the actual page) so I could remove it down the road if I choose to
@LauraHornArtКүн бұрын
Absolutely, that's a great approach. I'm pretty relaxed about what is in my sketchbook and don't mind the notes, but if you prefer not to have them detract from the art, post-it notes would work really well.

What a LOVELY art studio! 👍🌟👍 I'm Swedish and one place I can never get my husband to is Ikea!! Today it's one of the biggest holidays here, Midsummer's Eve.🌿🌻 We're at our cottage, very near where Ikea first started years & years back, Älmhult. (your apron was named Kålfjäril, fjäril is Swedish for butterfly). /Ditte 🤓 🇸🇪

Sweden is one of my top places that I want to visit!! I find it funny when I watch Swedish KZbinrs and see so much IKEA everywhere in there homes. I can understand not wanting to go there, but gosh, it has been a welcome gift over here in Australia, as we don't have anything quite like it and there are so many wonderful products that have creatives in mind. I love the apron so much and it is even better now that I know what the name means 🦋 Thank you!

I have an art pantry on the back of the kitchen pantry and I have used IKEA’s plastic shoe holders for storing A4 paper printed and recycled. I also have their hanging containers and bags for brushes and paints. Then I have Bunnings screw and nail storage for collages cutouts. Perfect for apartment art work.
