During a big part of this episode, I thought that Nan lost her mind and that's the theory the writers were encouraging viewers to believe. They insisted on the fact she was not sleeping at all, we could hear her talking to herself and being so desperate and afraid, she was doing crazy stuff at the end… For sure, the mental issues seemed like a good response.
But I also appreciate the solution : during all of this time, she was stuck in limbo, she was not accepting her death and the hitch-hiker just wanted to open her eyes, pushing her into other accidents. And some other moments of the episode were really nice, like the parallel between the hitch-hiker badly looking that Nan doesn't want to help in the middle of the day when she's following someone, and the marine guy she's begging to help in the middle of the night when she's all by herself.

I for one am glad you're being selective with the episodes to react to when the schedule allows it. As many really great episodes of "The Twilight Zone" there are out there to see (and there are many), there are a few that can be a bit dull. Wouldn't make for an interesting reaction video watching you start to fall asleep (though, and let's be honest here, there are a few sketchy folk watching YT that are looking for videos like that).

This is a low favorite. It always gives me chills, even though I’ve seen it multiple times Yeah, hitch hiking was more common a while ago, but the potential dangers became much more apparent in the 70s, and this aired in 1960, and the radio play was from 1941. Also travel became more affordable and easier so there were less people needing to hitch hike I think maybe for long stretches of that kind of road there’s no speed limit signs, but I would think there would still technically be a limit. Maybe that was true back in the day and now there’s more posted signs

Way less hitchicking yes now in our days, and I think that it's because we have now a lot of carpooling apps and websites, no ? That being said, I remember that I took at least three times hitch hickers in my cars, and really, as a girl, it takes some courage to do it. But I think it's because I saw my dad doing it when I was a kid, telling me that he has to do it a few times himself. So each time, I was like "it could be my dad" or "my dad would have that person", and I do it 😅
