This was also a big episode for Japan, because original the mangas name is "Sousou no Frieren" =Frieren the slayer. But the translation is not 100% correct, it could also mean: Frieren at the funeral. So all before expected the manga was called so, because Frieren lost all her friends/companions in the end. So it was a big suprise as her past was revealed. Cant wait until you see Episode 10 ^^

Graf Granat was unable to stand because he had a big hole in his gut from Lugner. I take it that neither one of you have had abdominal surgery because bending your waist after that is very painful. However I am curious as to where in the anime or manga it is stated that Stark’s axe has magic powers. As I understand it, his swings are so powerful that the air pressure is what was cutting the mountain past his physical reach.

His axe is normal. No magical powers. Simply being in the "class" of "Warrior" and being good at it, means that you can perform such feats. As you said it was air pressure that made the majority of the fissure. Pressure generated by Stark's strength (Stark means "Strong" in German).

You guys seemed a bit nitpicky this episode, but I can’t tell how serious you guys were about it. For one, the leverage against the Graf was torture. Not really much else needed there, people shockingly don’t like being tortured. Especially from the demons point of view, where they don’t really have relationships, self-preservation is paramount for them and I have no doubt they would sell out a city if they could live. Then, not sure why you guys doubt Stark when he says the rope is magical. You’re right in that he is VERY strong. If it was a normal rope he’d be able to cut through it with a butter knife, no matter how he cut it. His axe is also not magical, or at least never stated to be. It’s implied what he did to the cliff face in episode 5/6 was entirely off his own strength, not cause he has some magic explosion axe. Also, picking up Graf with the chair and just running would be a horribly bad idea. Try running away from people trying to kill you while holding a chair, much less one with someone on it. I don’t know, maybe you guys were really just joking and not being serious about these complaints, but it seemed serious and so wasn’t really fun to watch. If it was all just in good fun, then disregard my comment

It felt terrible - first time I had to pause reaction, because the number and manner of mistakes made me angry. Also first attempt to cut the rope by Stark as well as his decision to destroy chair (especially before demons showed up, when he had the time) can only make sense if Graf was tied to the chair. For example notice that this first cut - 17 minutes 18 seconds in actual episode if you have copy - is between Graf's hands and the middle bar of the back rest of the chair. From the side it isn't visible, because support bars of back rest on either side of the chair obstruct the view. And from experience and training I can tell you that even if he wasn't tied directly to the chair getting up from it quietly enough to make run for it to alert some guard that would alert the rest is almost impossible. Because even without tying it directly to chair, in this position the only viable option is to topple the chair. I could maybe utilize the friction and do it when I was in my peak. But with what looks like kidney wound? I would likely lose consciousness from the pain trying. And this wouldn't explain the need to break the chair, when Stark could have lifted Graf off the chair easily enough, nor the cut I mentioned. And yes, running with a chair would be impractical as you said, plus would likely cause additional wounds to the Graf. All of those mistakes alone would be a little annoying. But all of them combined plus the voice impressions, plus talking over each other plus pausing so often needlessly - I actually liked reactions to first 7 episodes. They weren't perfect, but I was hyped and they seem fun and interesting. This one killed the hype and made me stop watching the video. If it was joking then it was so bad that it was indistinguishable from terrible reaction.

your seeing zoltraak wrong, its an effective and powerful spell that is so optimised that every human mage can use it and every defence magic in de series is ajusted to block it.

Yup but Frierens version of it is adjusted to specifically kill demons . That’s why she has a “white” version of it and a “black” version

I'd say that the local ruler was kinda tired after half a day of being tortured by two demons. I'm happy to see your reaction to this episode!

All that shit talking about “the guys” yet you forget the single most important character in this show which is Himmel….also known as HIM!! Frierens entire perspective is based on how long it’s been since his death, that’s her world view now ;)

Title drop! Sousou no Frieren! It literally means "Frieren, the Funeral"
@jannegrey593
@jannegrey593 Ай бұрын
To be exact it has multiple meanings and is best described as "Frieren, the entity that will cause your end/funeral". Translating Japanese is hard and since it was already translated when it was a one-shot as "Frieren at the Funeral" or "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" it was hard to make exact title drop in English. Not to mention that double (triple?) meaning of the title became intentional once the author transformed Frieren from one shot to the series.

OK. I'm sorry but some of your reactions are annoying. Up until that episode there were moments were you paused too often, but here there were whole scenes where you paused every 3-5 seconds and also did impressions, while talking over each other? It disturbs the flow of reaction and makes it actually harder to listen to your thoughts. I appreciate your discussions after episode and some of it during episode, but cutting too often, while forgetting that there is an 80 year gap between what happened before and what is happening now (hence why Lugner thought he knew Frieren from somewhere, but couldn't place where from, since he didn't hear her name mentioned - Frieren after all almost never mentions her name). Reactions until this episode were mostly good, your discussions were very interesting, but this one is unwatchable. Which is a shame, I was really hyped to see your reactions. But you have to have something to react to. When you stop multiple times and don't even take into account what is happening on the screen and continue your discussion, which is based on wrong assumptions (rendering it basically meaningless, not to mention annoying) it stops being entertaining and or informative. I will give you example: Let's for a moment assume that Graf Granat is indeed not tied to the chair, but has "only" his hands tied behind the back of the chair. If he tries to stand up by merely pushing up all he will do is arch backwards and his hands will still be blocked by the back of the chair (it would also be very hard, because his center of gravity is outside the area of soles of his shoes making this position unstable - so the moment he would try to raise himself he wouldn't have balance at all, he would be falling, fall only constricted by the fact that he is tied with hands behind the back rest of the chair. You might know the toys, usually in shape of a bird that look uncanny, because you can balance them just by putting them raised on their tiny beaks, which seems very off balance - but it is actually perfectly balanced so that center of gravity of that toy is exactly over the beak. You cannot be balanced if that isn't the case - you will topple over always). In order to get from the chair you need to generate forward momentum. Which is very hard when you have hands tied behind back rest of the chair, which would still stop your forward momentum regardless. At minimum you'd have to stand up with the force to either dislocate your shoulders (which would be enough only if there was significant slack on the rope - otherwise you dislocated your shoulders for nothing), break the back rest of the chair (which given that this is chair from nobleman's house I would say is impossible to do in one very restricted movement) or rip your arms (fully - which is impossible to generate that much force, not to mention you'd die from blood loss in seconds). Given that Graf's objective is to warn his people he needs to get off the chair silently, when he is not watched by Demons, so that he can reach his allies to give command to evacuate or fight the 2 demons with all military might of the city - he cannot use the easiest method, which would be to topple chair sideways and after it is on the ground then pry himself off the chair. This would be doable if he didn't need to be quiet about it. And if he wasn't wounded in the or near the kidney. Which is extremely painful and potentially lethal (my headcannon always was that Lugner's control over blood allowed him to do damage to the kidney and stop bleeding immediately - that way you'd have the victim in extreme pain, but without risking his life in short term. So that would be all. But you could also ask yourself another question: Why is Stark's first attempt to cut the rope, in between Graf's hands and the back rest of the chair? The answer is most likely: "Because Graf Granat is also tied to the chair". Otherwise the cut doesn't make sense and Stark could lift Graf Granat from the chair without needing to destroy it. So TL;DR. Assuming Graf Granat isn't tied to the chair it would be impossible for wounded person to get out of this chair without using methods that would alert the Demons that he is trying to escape. Stark's actions only make sense if Graf Granat is tied to the chair. It is hard to watch you make fun of victim of torture for not doing something physically impossible, when you yourself don't notice that in order for several other things to make sense he has to be in situation you make fun of that he isn't. All the while you keep talking over each other and do voice impressions and points you're trying to make don't make sense. You react more at that point to your ideas and what you think of unrelated stuff then you react to actual show. Save that stuff for after episode analysis, where more speculative parts of discussion belong - like you did in previous episodes. P.S. I really hope this is a one off, but it killed any enthusiasm for going to Patreon and watching rest of reactions. Which I wanted to do, I was just waiting for money to come in (weirdly I get paid on 4th every month). At this point money is on account, but I don't think I will pay to watch your full reactions. I watched hundreds of Frieren reactions and this is the first time I stopped watching during reaction, because it didn't make any sense. And again - previous episodes were done well (I had minor criticisms, but that is normal and usually full reactions don't have that issue - which is why I often go to Patreon and pay for at least 1 month access). I will give the next episode a shot, but honestly I'm not expecting great things. Which is weird, given that I'm always hyped for reactions of Frieren. Especially episode 9 and 10.

Roman concrete isn't superior to modern concrete tho ... just saying. Also, modern humans could easily build something that would last thousands of years but it is simple not practical.

It's the first time I had to pause reaction to Frieren episode. Grating, annoying and a lot of other words that made it impossible for me to finish. And previously I was considering going to their patreon for rest of Frieren reactions. Dodged the bullet there I guess.
