I love the dynamic Lauren and Shirley have. You can tell Shirley has been through it all and learned to give the "daytime TV" answer. 7:41 he's basically like "Now it's cool to speak up for women..." It's quiet but Lauren says "Is it?", Shirley laughs off the insensitive question... I'm totally like Lauren but one day I hope to be as mature, wise, and fuckin badass as Shirley Manson

It would be refreshing to have two women musicians on talking about their music, things they like to do, what inspires them, etc…basically the things a male musician would get asked about and talk about. Instead, they’re asked how difficult is it to be a woman and how they deal with misogyny. And you know what that does? It immediately puts them in a vulnerable space where they have to talk about being a victim. It shows them as being “less than”. The guys asking this like to pretend to be allies, but they’re not. Rather than first and foremost seeing them as musicians, they see their gender, which they deem inferior. How do I know this? Because I’m a guy and if I had these two sitting next to me I would be in awe. I’d want to know about their music, how they got to where they are, what it’s like being so talented, what they want to do next - how they’ve accomplished all these things I never have. My first thought would never be “it must be so hard being a fragile woman.” Only a sexist thinks like that. I blame the interviewers but I also blame the interviewees - they can shut down a line of questioning. They can say “why are you asking me about this? I’m doing just fine. How about we talk about the music?” Or they could turn it around and ask, “what’s it like going through life with such a small penis?” Instead, they go along with it and every interview is the same. (I just came from the Aussie interview of Lauren and it was the same damn thing…I could only watch 5 minutes of that as well.) I hope these women and minorities wake up to the bullshit. Those that look at you and see a victim are not your friends. P.S. I’m not saying the interviewer is an awful guy. It’s possible he was told to ask these things. But it’s so tiresome.

Was daydreaming about bands that inspire me, and garbage came up. Then the dea like, who would be the counterpart in the 90s. Rmb thinking, well surely not Courtney Love, nothing personal cause I won't be personal about someone I only know from media... But Gwen Stefani in her own way, taking the cheerleader role to make fun of the obvious sexism. Then thought, who would be the counterpart today? And thought, well ppl would say cause they're both Scottish, but obviously Lauren Mayberry, and thought "not to put words in someone's mouth, but i felt sure she must have grewn up with Garbage as well from our early Millenial group or whatever... So I search for both names and lo and behold, all I thought more or less boiled down in an interview! Fking awesome! The one question that matters is obviously not adressed: And why are there fewer women in the music industry? Is it maybe because men are more outgoing? Maybe men have inflated egos where women have a lack of confidence? Is it a surprise why nobody ever sais anything, of substance, that physically stops women from persuing becoming an artist, or producer...
@viniciusjr86705 жыл бұрын
That is not necessarily the reason, sometimes is because the people in high places are men and they discriminate women and don't hire them
@JokoCi5 жыл бұрын
@@viniciusjr8670 And you think that makes a lot of sense? Which man do you know who would not like to be surrounded by women? I m guessing you buy into the whole wagegap nonsense too? Which company w ould not hire women only if they had to pay less for their work? Which Harvey Weinstein would not like to have more women to abuse? What you are describing is way more prevelent now than it has ever been, exactly because of the metoo whichhunt crap. Nowerdays people realy dont like to hire women anymore, because, worst case, all they need to do is to make any claim and the company, the management, will be bullied out of business.

Love your music Lauren but I’m sorry I don’t agree that women are any less encouraged to go into the music industry than men. I’m sure that there may be individuals within the music industry who are misogynist, but I simply can’t believe it is systematic. More women need to choose to play alternative music, if it’s good people will listen. Just look at Marmozets, great band, no one cares that the singer is a woman. I see a lot of smaller bands and there is just fewer women in alternative bands, period. That’s not sexist, that’s women not choosing to be in bands.
