I totally understand how it feels when my son got his IEP at age 3. He is also autistic. It’s never easy hearing all the weaknesses, but the IEP has helped him gain access to more resources. Good luck!

Lauren, I can totally relate to the depression after an IEP meeting. My son has had an IEP for more than 18 yrs (extended high school). I am sorry I cannot say they get easier. I could not handle the term sped in the meetings, so I made sure everyone knew that and simply used the term "special. " The advice I can give is prep your questions and desires for Ella before the meeting. Then make sure at the meeting, no matter how many deficiencies they talk about, ask your questions and desires. No ask is too big or too out there. The kiddos are worth the ask. Even with a great school, they can do better. Once they begin talking about transitioning Ella (graduating out of an IEP), it get tough all over again. A person from my "village" once told me the grief you will feel when someone points out your sons deficiencies can put you in the ground if you let it, so don't let it. She reminded me to celebrate the positives, no matter how small. Everyone's life changes with the addition of a child, we have been blessed to have a special one! God bless you all!

I have a son with Asperger’s and I will tell you I have never left an IEP meeting without feeling shaken and I’m super emotional. It’s just a hard thing when you have a group of people talking about your child.

Thank you so much for sharing your story Lauren. I am a single momma navigating with my amazing 3 yr old boy that received an Autism diagnosis in June. Luckily I had already suspected this would be the truth and I pushed for some early intervention services as soon as I could. Unfortunately we had to move provinces (Canadian gal here) and where we are living now his services are going to be put on hold for years due to funding issues within the province. This video has helped remind me that my sad and grieving feelings for my kiddo are valid and it is ok to have them, and to just focus on the present. We got this everyone.

I remember the day I went to my 3 year old daughter Olivia's psychological evaluation by myself and I was 8 months pregnant. The psychologist was so blunt when stating she was moderately mentally handicapped. I fell into a deep hole that I thought I'd never be able to crawl out of, but like you said live in the present and keep moving forward. Read "Welcome to Holland." Thank you for sharing your story❤

Getting the official diagnosis from my child's pediatric psychologist made me break down in tears. I knew they were autistic, but over a year of fighting and advocating for them had me crying when I heard the official report because it was validation that I know my kid and that they would get the help they needed now. You definitely grieve the future you thought they would have. It's completely understandable you've had these big feelings with Ella's IEP. They drain me every year because it's a big fight to keep pushing for what they need. You're doing amazing, mama. Hope everything goes well for Ev's eval as well. Xoxo

Considering everything that you have been through, it’s amazing how well that you actually are. How is John and Ella doing, because they also had a life changing experience? Can you start the chats that you used to do with your mother again, they were so entertaining and I also loved the intro song.

I’ve just started a journey with my 14 year old son this past year. We noticed symptoms late for him. He goes to therapy and finally has his autism evaluation next month. He struggles at school a lot. We think he is high functioning because he is so smart but doesn’t do well at school. He is socially awkward for sure. He talked you and was obsessed with dinosaurs when he was young. He has new obsessions now. His therapist says he has anxiety and ADD. He has had several panic attacks. It’s so hard to watch. I hope we can get him an IEP this year while he is still in middle school. He goes to public school but may have to switch to online at some point if his anxiety gets worse. We’ll see how it goes.

Grief is real and a process. It sounds like the timing of the IEP meeting was so hard too. Glad you’re on the other end! If I could, maybe look into Parent Child Interaction Therapy or hopefully, his providers are playing with the two of you together? I say this carefully, with respect, and no shame or blame, but moms who have anxiety and or depression, especially at high levels are more likely to have kids with those issues. IMO, we don’t talk abt it and the things that help enough.. Between the pandemic and loss y’all faced, I wonder if your son is experiencing some of the impacts. Maybe a developmental pediatrician would be helpful to add the team too? Less pacifier use is better as well speech wise (easier said than done, I totally know😅). Thank you for sharing and for the inspiration! I’m working on working out thanks to you. Hope! Keep going, girl! ❤️

What a beautiful and vulnerable update! Thanks for your honesty and for reminding us to live in the present and that’s it’s okay if things don’t look the way you imagined. You are so right that it’s okay if your life is different than others if you are all thriving and getting lots of love. Social media can cement an imagine in our heads about how our lives should look and that can be very difficult to overcome or ignore. You should feel so proud that you are putting this energy into your personal wellness - that is the best thing you can do for yourself and your family!!

IEPs are rough. We’ve been homeschooling since 2020. I know where my son struggles but now I know how intelligent he truly is. He is on the spectrum In 2020 he was in the 3rd grade but they said he was operating at a kindergarten level. I was so heartbroken but something told me they were wrong. Public school was not the right environment for him bc they acted like they didn’t know how to help him even with his IEP. Since he’s been home he is thriving.

I’ve said some intense prayers in the middle of my own tornado of ‘what is this life’ esp mental health and so many similarities in the way you speak about and feel the world. Mega super sensitive empath here - I watch your videos when they pop up and pray with you through the storms. Thank you for being here with this message because I ran out of ideas and just prAYed ya know? You totally speak the way my heart hears and what an absolute comfort tonight. Thank you for putting yourself out there and YES world peace could be so simple it seems - my whole life I’ve agonized over the fact that it’s near impossible! I had my soap box out and preached right along with you and the choir! Bless your children and family and all who have the good fortune to know you. 🩷 (I’ve been on the teacher side of IEPs almost 20 years teaching 2nd grade. I’ve learned so much and advocate to parents who can so easily be intimidated by those things. Those LIFE-Changing things our kiddos have rights to. Thx again for sharing it all. My depression is something else these days, that’s for sure. Hugs :)

I get sad and have “life things”, I have borderline personality disorder, adhd, major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and c-ptsd, and the difference is, through it all I still have to go to work! I’m so sick of KZbinrs saying “life has been so crazy, everyone’s life is crazy, the world is crazy but we still have to work! I don’t know what makes you think you’re better than me! My child has special needs and I’m a single mom so I can’t just not show up to work. I’ve followed for years but I think I’m done. I’ve purchased from several sponsors, including helix ($$$). As soon as KZbinrs start getting sponsorships they stop posting on KZbin and make short form content for less work and only post on KZbin when there’s a sponsor. Anyway, have a nice life I guess

Hey babe!! I have PMDD. It absolutely sucks and feels like it's ruining your life every month. For years, I was lucky to have 2 good weeks every month. This year, though, I started taking Latuda (don't be scared by what type of med it is), I take it for 10 days a month during the luteal phase. Omg, it has been a total life changer and has basically cured my PMDD. I'm also on an SSRI, but the lutada is like a nice sprinkle of relief during that time of my cycle. I personally don't have withdrawal effects once I stop taking it every month, and I only take 5 mg at night, so it's a really low dose. Everyone is different, and I'm not a doctor, so take this as just an option to talk to your doctor about. But it really has made a HUGE difference for me. I'm no longer getting to that really dark scary place mentally every month. There's other similar options, too. Lamictal is a really great med, too. I always recommend doing the genesight test before starting new meds so you can know if your body and genes will have a negative reaction or not to meds. Anyway, I hope this helps. Praying for you ❤❤

My son had a speech delay and censory issues. When I brought up the issue with the peditrician I was told I had parental paranoia. When my daughter was born I had to see another peditrician for a well visit and had my son with me. When the peditrician heard him speak she was immediatly concerned and quite franky a bit pissy about it. I looked at her and said, "No shit Sherlock! I have been bringing up this concern up for over a year." She looked at me stunned and said, "O.K. give me a second and we are going to talk about this." She sent me in the direction of having him tested. Autism, no. Asberger, no. Censory issue, yes which continued to effect his schooling and it was a struggle but he pulled through. He is 30 years old new and we can't get him to shut up.......

Your depression might be tied to the mounjaro! I recently had issues with it and am willing to talk about it with you if you want. It is very serious and they are having multiple studies going on about it all over the world.
