About the game:
Bloodborne is a 2015 action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. Bloodborne follows the player's character, a Hunter, through the decrepit Gothic, Victorian-era-inspired city of Yharnam, whose inhabitants are afflicted with a blood-borne disease. Attempting to find the source of the plague, the player's character unravels the city's mysteries while fighting beasts and cosmic beings.
The game is played from a third-person perspective. Players control a customizable protagonist, and the gameplay is focused on strategic weapons-based combat and exploration. Players battle varied enemies while using items such as swords and firearms, exploring different locations, interacting with non-player characters, and unravelling the city's mysteries. Bloodborne began development in 2012 under the working title of Project Beast. I'd say him and Gehrman both. Add Ludwig and you get a trio of people who decided to meddle with forces far greater than them, so stuck in their ways they were oblivious to the blasphemy they have been commiting and frakked everything up for everyone else, jadda jadda for evermore.

@@TeppicTheAbysswalker Ludwig is pretty unimportant for the Lore itself. He was just the Dude who was hired to clean up the mess. Gehrman cracked some skulls in the Fishing Hamlet and pissed of Kos. That's what makes him relevant. The central people who fucked up Yharnam are Laurence, Micolash and maaaaybe Willem (indirectly), even when he realized pretty fast that some shit will happen.

@Vulp that might be the case, but if my memory serves me right, Ludwig was sort of the cause for all the Healing Church to go to shieets. First of the church hunters, who not only was one of the first to Pthumerian ruins, but one to school and guide everyone who belonged to the church hunters, despite being oblivious to Moonlight Sword's true nature. Him and his sword might have been the reason why we have cleric beasts, just as much as church's negligence to acknowledge hazards involving blood ministration. All in all, in the world of willfully ignorant, Ludwig was on the forefront of church's demise.

And to become a Cleric Beasts, people have to supress the beasthood. People wo dam it for a longer period of time become bigger and more horrific beasts. There is a weapon right around the place where you found the old hunter garb. It’s the chain whip hunters use. Also try the rune Vicard gave you. And hold tight for the last part of the DLC!

In all of the videos that I've watched about the hardest bosses in the fromsoft catalog, no one ever brings up Laurence the first vicar. This guy is one of the my personal hardest bosses to beat, along with Malenia and Sister Friede. Good shit bro! 👏

The Cleric Beast isn't a specific beast. It's simply a Cleric that turned into a beast. Any member of the church that turns into a beast is a Cleric Beast. That includes Vicar Amelia and Laurence. Also, you can now buy Maria's set from the insight bath.

Laurence The First Vicar was a boss idea that on paper seems like a great idea. Even the Cleric Beast model being re-used works lore wise and giving him fire works because of the irony of him becoming a beast. The problem is that his moveset isn't original enough to make the run back or the damage he does worth fighting. He makes you work too hard for a fight that feels cheapened for a character with so much significance. But his theme is a massive banger and I love listening to you jam so hard to it in between attempts lol

If there's one thing that FromSoftware does better than just about anyone, it's bosses that challenge people in such different ways. You beat Ludwig in just 3 or 4 tries, but he took me a solid couple hours. I beat Laurence on my second try and yet it was a very challenging fight to you. So cool how different bosses test different players so well.

I'm going to bet you were using a slow, two hand weapon. The high stagger weapons work incredibly well against Laurence, while Ludwig and the orphan are much more resistant to stagger. When you're not staggering them with a heavy weapon anyway, the faster weapons tend to be advantageous.

Dude I struggled with Laurence big time. Easily the hardest in the game for me as well. I also didn’t play the DLC until NG+ because I had already beaten the game before the DLC was released. I don’t remember exactly what I did but after trying every weapon and item I eventually arrowed him to death with Simon’s Bowblade. I find it helps to fight hard bosses without music or sound effects. The intense orchestral atmosphere really adds to the anxiety. They don’t seem as threatening when it’s silent.

I agree fully and prefer the music loud if I can. It’s one of my favorite OSTs. It was just a suggestion for those that get to a point where the consistent dying is no longer fun. If you’ve reached a point that you’re searching cheese methods just to get it over with and move on then removing the music can help. There’s a particular boss in Nioh 2 I dread the encounter. It’s a miserable fight and I don’t care to git gud. I’ll do whatever cheese it takes to get it over with quickly.

I don’t play these games for the bosses anyway. It’s the gauntlet style levels I enjoy. Improving my time and accuracy traveling from Point A to point B. I also like the math behind exotic builds. I’ll totally one shot a boss if I built a character that can do it.

Dude, I LOVE 3 but I honestly don't think a certain boss' second phase will hit quite as hard without playing Dark Souls 1 first. Plus, I think going from 3 to 1 is harder than the other way around with the quality of life features and the feel of the combat in 3 compared to 1.

@Mordraug yeah tbh, if you want to do it ‘properly’ you should go back to Demon’s souls (remake) then DS1 - potentially DS2 but meh.. then DS3 I was just looking at it from the playability, working backwards. But it’s probably better to start from the beginning haha

@Mordraug Well from a content creator perspective it wouldnt make much sense to leave out DS2. Fromsoft games were what started to really draw viewer, while that may expand over time its pretty much the nieche he is in right now so any game of the series should be really good material to keep the channel growing. Unless ofc DS2 draws signifficantly less interest but i personally doubt that so why not just work with everything there is. Also DS2 isnt a bad game, it just has amazing competition. Demon Souls is the first of its kind so it has a special place, DS1 brought the concept to the next level and just is an absolute classic with its amazing level designe and unique athmosphere. DS3 is the whole thing modernized, it just playes the best. ER is on a whole other scale entirely. And Bloodborne and Sekiro are their unique thing anyway. DS2 just isnt outstanding but i did enjoyed my time with it. Also not that important for most but pvp was quiet good.

You’re following the same trajectory as what I did. When I first played this game I aced every boss… until Laurence. It really demotivated me too I don’t want to alarm you… But the final boss of the DLC is even harder than Laurence 😅 Also save the shaman bone blades for a certain pair of enemies in the fishing hamlet

You will see a drastic improvement in your damage output that would’ve made Laurence here WAAAAAY more bearable! When you use a beast pellet you get a meter that fills up with every hit you land. The higher the meter, the greater the damage bonus you get! It can be a huge lifesaver! Stay awesome. 🎉 And tell the Orphan I said hello. 😅

@@matiasgago The Orphan is definitely a terrifying foe, but after you worked so hard against Laurence I think you've got this! They are the 2 bosses everyone agree are the hardest of the entire game (and some say hardest in the entire FromSoft Soulsborne genre)! It's a very different sort of fight from Laurence, but all the same I think you've got this!

OK I was waiting with my comment until the end haha. Laurence is a brutal boss, he crushed many many players, you're not alone. The moves are not so crazy, it's the range and AOE of his moves that makes it so hard, specially in his final phase it looks like he's very limited but he isn't, not at all, his range is massive and you can't tell where you're save and where not. There are some strategies but he is just tough, that's it. What would help you, not just for Laurence, is to optimize your weapons more, you can find upgrade materials for max level (Blood Rock), these are very limited but you should at least get one of your weapons to max now and take some time experimenting with Bloodgems to optimize damage type and output, the scaling system in BB (and souls in general) is a bit confusing but you can look it up, there's a lot you can do that will definitely help you to get more damage out and that's key at the end of the day.

Everyone has that one boss that their brains just refuse to figure out. Bosses can add a delay to some of their attacks, so watch out for that. Fantastic finish to this fight, though - epic timing with the music and everything. Subnautica is one of my favorite games, right up there with Bloodborne, especially in creating that atmosphere of mild dread. I'd totally tune in for that!
