Here a fascinating comparison of Laurencia Variation performed by Ekaterina Krysanova, Natalia Osipova, Evelina Godunova.
Laurencia is a ballet made by Vakhtang Chabukiani to music by Alexander Krein, based on Lope de Vega's Fuenteovejuna. Chabukiani created a new choreographic language by means of his own particular blend of folk dance and classical ballet. Laurencia was premiered in 1939 in the Kirov Theatre.

@@minissa2009 When a ballerina reaches the high level of performance, those truly talented becoming unique. That is quite obvious. That is the reason I am unable to say who is the first and who is only the second. They are both the best, it may happen that the three are the best. Hopefully I am understood. Another important aspect of watching ballet dancers, I like a certain ballerina, young or a bit more matured, there is always reason to have pleasure in seeing her dancing. In nutshell, ballet has important elements of any sports event, but at the top of it dancing in ballet is an art. Kitri's longest variation last about 1.24 minutes. First bride variation is a bit shorter. Similarly to a track run for 400 meters. But in sports time is at stake and being the faster in a championship run, while in ballet the most important is impression, taste. It is impossible to discuss the "gout" ( taste ).

I had the good fortune to see 'Laurencia' with the Mikahailovsky Ballet in London (2010). I remember a reviewer noting that 'When Osipova steps on stage, the sun comes out'. Exactly!

Osipova by far the best...she dances. She gets out of the ballet straight jacket that many dancers seem trapped in...stiff and lacking fluidity. Everything is seamless and her phrasing nowhere is clipped and choppy.

I would die a thousand deaths not to be compared to Osipova in a variation like this that is all Russian stag leaps and turns. She has an energy (plus the spectacular jump and precision) that especially Krysanova lacks here. (Not a real big Krysanova fan here, and it doesn't help that back before CoVid the Bolshoi Cinema productions were relying heavily on her at the expense of a lot of other better dancers.) Godunova is lovely but phrases more lyrically, but this may be the difference between the variation in context (Osipova for sure, not sure about Krysanova, maybe doing Luarencia light?) and doing it as a party piece for a pdd evening. Someone else mentioned "wearing" the character for Osipova, and I agree. Thanks for posting. I would love to know this ballet better!

Ещё раз посмотрела, конечно Осипова и Годунова. В Осиповой есть нечто особо притягательное, что-то невероятное, что тебя хватает и не отпускает, какой-то феномен, вот так же и Барышников. Годунова тоже поражает легчайшими прыжками. Хороша и Крысанова, нельзя это не признать.

Krysanova is a wonderful ballerina, but she's not well cast in Laurencia. Osipova is the only one who has the magic Plisetskaya imparted in that role.

Не могу сказать, что я большая поклонница Осиповой, но эта партия как-будто создана для нее. Можно даже не смотреть других балерин - пальма первенства за ней. Даже несмотря на то, что в этом ролике использована не лучшая запись вариации в исполнении Натальи.

Есть огромная разница между этими тремя исполнениями - Крысанова и Годунова просто исполняют отдельную вариацию, а у Осиповой - запись целого балета. Она в образе полном, но самые мурашки вызывает финал этого балета в её исполнении. Вот где энергия, вот где сила, вот где актерское мастерство! Буря эмоций отражается на ее на лице, её руки не просто "говорят" - они кричат! Они обвиняют! Они зовут! Они вдохновляют на борьбу! То, как Лауренсия Осиповой поднимает людей на штурм замка - этому веришь, она лидер, она может вести их за собой... А финальная сцена? Все настолько понятно без слов... В её смехе не просто радость победы, там и обещание борьбы с подобными негодяями, если такие появятся вновь... И много чего еще. Очень сильная роль!

Yes Osipovas jumps are stunning, really amazing, but all Osipova is doing is the same , there is no real change to me with the role and the technique is not very clean, impressive skills but no cleanness and differences of expression. I liked Godunova most, though the best I saw in this role is Shakirova

Честно говоря, не очень люблю Осипову, во многих просмотренных мной подборках она была весьма средней на фоне той же Крысановой, а также Захаровой, Саленко, Воронцовой, Сомовой и т.д., но здесь она однозначно лучшая. Надо бы посмотреть ещё балеты с ней, что-то я не разглядела в этой балерине.

Plisetskaya is so much better than all of the others. Krysanova is off the music. Osipova does not have the style and ease. I see the effort that it costs her. The other ladies are boring. When ballet lost strength it lost a great deal of excitement. Plisetskaya is the true virtuoso.
