Imaginary friend is one of my top kpop songs of the year for sure, and I’m not even really that into itzy!! What a gorgeous song, and the mv/choreo really elevate it

12:17. what you said about the lyrics hitting harder coming from Lia really rings true for me. I had teary eyes the entire time I was listening because the song was so good, but that line from Lia is what made me spill over. The one who's needed protection recently stepping up and being the one who is protecting is so moving to me. It means so much more coming from her when you know what she's been through. This is without a doubt my favorite ITZY song, and the context of everything with Lia makes it hit extra hard.

I absolutely love Imaginary Friend, and I really hope they release more music like this. More vocal heavy and mature concepts as they are maturing as people but also as artists. They are so talented and I wish they could showcase more of this side of themselves. So beautiful!

Gold is a very peculiar composition. Even the members themselves mentioned in an interview that it took them quite some time to understand this song. And they’re right - it’s not a track that immediately becomes a favorite upon first listen (it took me three listens just to start perceiving it positively). The song is a bit odd but amusing, leaning towards hip-hop but performed in the same pop style. At times, as you noticed, it even resembles NMIXX’s tracks! The song is oversaturated with sounds, but that’s what makes it intriguing. Some moments feel unnecessary, but overall, the song is quite good. The more I listen to it, the more I like it. Maybe you wanted to express your thoughts about this track more openly butheld out (I mean giving it a harsher critique, haha). Still, even if you don’t like it now, it might leave a great impression later. Imaginary Friend has such a tender, calm, and slightly melancholic vibe - it’s insane how it makes so many people feel safe. It’s impressive how the rhythm evokes emotions, and Jisoo’s voice is so full of feeling it pierces right to the core. You were absolutely right to say that the lines sung by Lia feel different - more emotional. In the Album Spoiler, there was the line, “When there’s monsters on your ceiling, I’ll keep you safe and I’ll keep you dreaming,” sung by Lia, and it was so stunning that I literally cried listening to it - and later, even just remembering how Lia sang it. The lyrics are something incredible. It’s especially striking that they added two small dance breaks, and even here, they fit perfectly. This song doesn’t seem like one where a dance break would be appropriate, yet it’s there and feels organic. The choreography doesn’t stray from the overall style, which is satisfying. This clip strikes an excellent balance that’s evident in every aspect. I’ve read many comments with theories, and a lot of them share this idea: “Except for Lia, the other members’ hands are injured. Lia got hurt while trying to see something, and the video begins and ends with ITZY covering her eyes. ITZY protects Lia from all the negativity she might see.” After reading this, I can’t shake the thought that this song is about Lia, or at least partially for her. It’s crazy to feel chills and tears from start to finish. It only proves that ITZY can do anything

These are all such great points! I feel like my ADHD liked Gold right away because of all the sounds LOL, it's like 10/10 stimulation, but I could see how that wouldn't be for everyone. And YES, Imaginary Friend has such a haunting yet calming vibe to it. And the choreo feels like another way of delivering the emotion of the song. It reminds me of INVU, one of my favourite K-pop songs of all time. And although it might not be a viral sensation, from the lists of top K-pop songs of the year I've collected so far from critics, I've seen it appear on multiple lists, so it is getting love from people who consume and critique music for a living!! Omggggg that Lia theory just hit me in the feels SO HARD 😭

i'm so happy that we got your reaction to these songs! it took a while for gold to grow on me but it's such a fun song. i love imaginary friend so much. it has become such a comfort song for me. honestly might be one of my absolute favorite releases from this year. also welcome back!! I believe the story of imaginary friend is an ode to Lia especially after the constant hate especially during sneaker’s era. Yeji being the leader she took the brunt of the hate against them and fighting them off. Ryujin and Chaeryeong fighting the haters while also keeping guard to protect the group. Meanwhile Yuna had faced hate too and whatever is inflicted on Lia hurts her too as they both have wounds on their backs but Yuna is fighting too. 4/5 have bruised knuckles and various scratches protecting Lia while the small bit of hate hitting her back
