Its a fantasy and suspense song, but if you're happy to think it was for Lia, Sugarholic M/V is actually for Lia and Ryujin (They play with each other and tease Lia and Wipe Ryujin's tears)

Except for Lia hand that wasn't injured, you can see that the other members had injuries to their hands. In the end, all the members protected Lia by covering her eyes. I really respect that idea.

This song is already an emotional song because to me ITZY is almost like an imaginary friend. They've helped me get through what has been the hardest time in my life, but they're not really here with me. I got teary-eyed the first listen. Then again when i read the lyrics. Then seeing Lia at the end got me crying for some reason, and then after reading through the comments it hits even harder. I love these girls so much.

The beginning and the end is both all of them covering Lia’s eyes. When the other 4 have wounds on their hands, Lia has hers over her shoulder/ back. I’ve listened to IF when the album released and I was crying at 5am listening to it. Still, that does not change the fact that I was bawling my eyes out watching the MV today. I have read a lot of theories abt this song and the one that makes sense the most to me : all the wounds are all the bullying/ bad stuffs ITZY have gone through since debut. The others try protecting Lia from seeing bad things and hurt themselves, still, they are there with her, protecting her no matter what. Nobody loves ITZY more than ITZY themselves ❤️‍🩹 am proud of these girls and also happy to see my girl Lia back and better than ever ☺️

I feel like this one was so emotional and hit so hard not only because of the message and Lia’s return but also because it reminded me of old Itzy and made me feel so proud of how far they’ve come. I’ve always been a Midzy and love ALL of their songs but I think what really made them great was the fact that they debuted with music that had such important, meaningful messages at the forefront of their songs. (and not that their recent music doesn’t, I just really felt the message from this one the same way I felt with Wannabe, Dalla Dalla, etc). I’m so happy to have a song like this from them, somehow it felt like the perfect timing and I agree it has to be one of the best songs of the year and one of my favorite Itzy songs

Okay so, actually I think that when the English version of Imaginary Friend was released, Apple Music said that the song was about the parasocial relationship we as fans have with kpop idols. That’s why they keep repeating they are our “Imaginary Friends” and they will keep us safe and dreaming but in contrast the song and mv look cold almost sad, having an imagery of the girls running in circles, being hurt and trying to stop the bleeding without succeeding , being scared and harmed by shadows that can’t touch them but the itzy girls can feel them, the girls trying to cover lia’s eyes at the end, a butterfly pinned to a wall, so beautiful and still so we can see it carefully but so in pain at the same time. Actually Lia herself said that we as fans get to decide if imaginary friend is a good thing or not. Absolutely stunning, not many songs in kpop invite us to reflect about how we consume our favorite idols.

The more experience Itzy gets, the more I get the impression she resembles Red Velvet => red for the powerful, fun badass, independent and swag side, and purple for the introspective, ballad-like songs. I literally have the impression that Itzy are in transition to more poetic, scenic songs, etc. The video clip reminded me of a Western mv, not a Korean one. All this to say that Itzy takes the western codes and makes them their own.
