I'm really glad that Soman let Sophie go through such a good character arc and have 6 whole books of character development before he placed her with Hort. (FINALLY!) I think that it's important he did that because Sophie needed to learn how to be her own person and then also learn to accept true love over love from power-hungry boys, not based off looks or social position.

Tedros being sexist was literally the worst and most annoying thing. Without it, this book would have been flawless (practically). I really wish those sexist things would have been resolved or at least addressed by the end (when he truly grew as a character). Because of all of those stupid things he said/thought, I genuinely hoped that Agatha would end up winning the trial, lol.
@LaurenKissReads4 жыл бұрын
Agreed! I hated that about him so much and how it never really changed. And honestly I was hoping low-key for that as well...!
@24Kurenai2 жыл бұрын
Of course it was not gonna change he's literally a fairy tale prince who lives in a world where he is taught that as a man, he saves the woman, as a prince he saves the princess, he fights the battles, he fights the villains, etc, it's a prejudice he will always have to work on b/c it was taught and is still valued in the endless woods. It's not any different from Sophie's character who may have grown as a person but is still very much an ageist and fatphobic and if Tedros battling his sexism while also voicing his dislike of Agatha being controlling and emascualing him (which are valid) is what stops the book from being perfect but not Hort not taking no for an answer, that just shows what you value and what you are willing to ignore.

Spoiler warning!! I read a theory somewhere before otk came out, and it talked about how the chapter in acot when Sophie chose Hort to take from the prison, was called Sophie's Choice. Soman Chainani loves making references to things such as classics in his books. For those who don't know, Sophie's Choice is a book about a mother who chooses which of her two sons die, and so the theory was that Hort would die in otk. I went into reading otk with the expectation that Hort would die, though I still had so much hope that he wouldn't, so when that fake-out death scene happened, I cried so hard even though I was basically expecting it. I was so flipping relieved and ecstatic when I read the ending chapter and I sobbed even more. Just though this theory was pretty interesting so I hope you guys find it interesting too. Man I went on a long rant there. 😂

tedros to me, seemed real with all his flaws and shortcomings as agatha's love and camelot's king. the way his character bugs me makes him even more believable as someone who the story portrays as an heir-to-the-throne-blonde-prince, but with a great character arc that digs deeper into the happy ever after of an everyday blonde-prince.

When Tedros died I was literally crying I actually thought he was dead and i felt so bad for Agatha, i mean he was her prince, and i loved them together! Spoilers warning I think that Tedros' annoying, repetitive shortcomings was his entire flaw that stood in his way as king. This lasted for almost six books, damn. No wonder he never did even when he was preparing for it in book four. Until he finally got over them. But again, we only got this at the near END of the book. And that's enjoyable but also a bit too late and far not enough for us readers 😂 i was deeply awed by Professor August Sader's foreseen painting of him as King Tedros the first time i envisioned it (i think revealed in the third book) and somehow knew the author wouldn't write that far. The righteous, dreamy, strong King we imagine King Tedros would only be available to us through imagination. We know he would rule good. But we don't get material on exactly what that ethereal good would be like since the current Tedros keeps changing his stances unlike Chaddick (who we all know is always firm and steady and reliable). In any case, i agree with your view on Tedros completely. I want to believe Soman just made his writing that way so he could only topple over his father's mistakes only by what we think is the end of his story. Edit: Also the plot twists in this book is literal bomb

SPOILERRR -- massive question thats been eating at me !!! do you think it's weird how agatha never really asked tedros 'are you okay?' while he was discovering all this disturbing stuff about his family (esp when he discovered tht his mom never wanted him to return and when his mom literally DIED in his hands)? like yeah i guess she comforted and supported him sometimes, but without actually ever asking him how he felt ab all of it. she just kinda assumed. maybe its cause he never really opened up to her, and never really felt comfortable opening up to her (as stated in the 4th book), but its so uncharacteristic for agatha to just not care. what/why do you think? other question: in the 4th book (and 5th and 6 techinically), do you think tedros had trouble opening up to agatha because he wanted to sheild her from his problems or because it made him feel inadequate being vulnerable with her (since hes lowkey sexist ew vomit gross) ? SO SORRY FOR THE RANT LMAO i hvnt slept lol
@24Kurenai2 жыл бұрын
Agatha has a tendency to put Sophie over Tedros, so you have to ask yourself was Sophie away, was Sophie in danger, cause if Sophie is not close or safe than Agatha usually ignores all else lol. Agatha was also too busy trying to take over Tedros quests and doubting his decisions while keeping secrets from him. In regards to Tedros, you have to remember that Tedros being a fairytale prince was raised a certain way he's carrying toxic masculinity beliefs like showing emotions/thinking being emotional in front of a girl is weak, so that's something he'll have to work on but it also shows how valuable it would be for Tedros to have a male best friend so that he can open up to them like he was doing when Sophie was male or with Rhian b/c it is easier for him to do so. Also Tedros and Agatha tend to keep things from each other to protect each other but that doesn't excuse or explain why they don't open or rather why Tedros doesn't outside of the reasons I gave.

I agree that tedros's character development is so bland and just akward but we must also understand that he has so many problems as much as the other characters in the book like all the pressure and all the deaths of his loved ones and then this trials that his father left him, You can't blame him for his incompetence. But amongst all the odds he still manages to find their happy ending. Which only means that his character development although not that promising contributed A LOT especially to Agatha.
