This was a swarm, looking for a new home and simply took a rest on your boat. If you had just left them alone they would have moved on. They are also totally calm during this phase of life , you could have literally walked up and scooped them up in your hands. ( Beekeeper)
@stanleysteamcar2 жыл бұрын
Rick, you took the words right out of my mouth. People even 'wear' them in this state with no harm as you'll be aware. Even in their normal state, they are the most wonderful calm creatures unless threatened. I don't keep them but their lives are amazing🐝

I am a bee keeper. This is a swarm. They have decided to find a new home. If it is not too late find a local bee keeper to put them in a new box back on land. They have bellies full of food ready to start a new home somewhere. This is a critical time for the bee colony. It will be critical they find a new place to call home soon and will likely leave on their own soon.
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd66432 жыл бұрын
Rick Cockcroft already stated what I was going to. The swarm will rest for a few hours while the scout bees find a suitable spot, then they will move on. They are also very docile during a swarm. Wish I had a swarm on my place. I've got four bee hives setting empty at the moment.
@archonpanagiotis61582 жыл бұрын
For them to leave the place where they live, beehive or tree, there is a reason. When you see many together, it means that the queen of that particular herd is at that point and the herd is together to follow her and protect her. To begin with, they find a random spot, where they sit for about 24 hours, until the late ladies looking for a new "home" call her for their permanent residence. So most likely the queen was there too. This calls for caution, because if they feel threatened, they may launch a massive attack and are more aggressive in the summer. It's a good idea to call the port authority so that someone local (with a cell phone) can come and pick them up...! He knows. With smoke (and not fire) they calm down for a while but I don't think they will go away...! It is better not to get so close to them (with the pelvis). If you hit one, the whole herd can defend itself. Now if it happens to you in the middle of the sea, chances are they will leave quickly, because they want an enclosed space to build a nest and they don't like the cold. Unless they're nesting in one of your cupboards...! 😜🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Next time, be careful. And if the local takes them and you don't kill them and the person earns an income...! Unless they see girls and they are whales, male bees...🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy travels!

I've seen bees swarm a large variety of things, cars, trucks, even a motorcycle. A sailboat at anchor? Never!!!!! The mother hive must be enormous for a new queen to pick that inhospitable location.

As someone else indicated. It's just a swarm they're resting on your boat. They won't be there long. If you don't approach them aggressively they will basically leave you alone. Until they're ready to go somewhere else.

When I was stationed in Hawaii, bees swarmed the stabilator on my Blackhawk helicopter. We couldn’t fly it for over a week. We could use and kind of pest control either because we cannot use chemicals like bug killer on our airframe. They just left after a week and a half. I suppose it was just to hot for a sustainable hive environment. Watching this, I had total flashback!

Exquisite teamwork video to wake up to this morning!! Oceans in the southern latitudes are tough on rigging, lines, pulley's and ropes. I've learned early on to do a weekly maintenance check for wear, rust, cracks, etc. Great job on handling the bees. They were stubborn for sure because your boat was a temporary sanctuary as they were on the hunt for a new permanent home. Thank you Lauren. Safe Travels - Frankie G.

The windless is mounted too low. It must be raised with a block of wood. The angle of the chain must be level from the windless to the bow sprit roller touching nothing in between. You must fix this ASAP before you do more damage to the windless and have to buy a new one. I can guide you through this. I have never seen so many bugs in the Bahamas. You need bug screens on every hatch and window. Make your self with bug screen and Velcro. And you need DC fans installed. You can take anything. The charter guest can not. Consider portable A/C for$ 500 too. You are getting more views faster than a rock star. Fix the boat ASAP before something really bad happens with that defective windless.

swarming bees are not dangerous and generally don't sting, there is nothing else to do than to wet the solar panels so that the bees find a new location. Keeping the bimini uncomfortable for the bees and they will look elsewhere, the important thing to do is to make sure that the queen leaves

Set anchor, then batten down the hatches, then get a bucket of water and throw the water to wash off the bees from your solar panel and run into the cabin shutting the door behind you. The reason why the bees are there is because the queen bee is there with them so when the queen leaves the rest will follow.

bee n there. We were hoisting our main on a just purchased, older, Islander Freeport on Rio Dulce. Down plopped, from the masthead, a beehive and bees soon covered the foredeck. Worried about Africanized killer bees, we hid in the cockpit until dusk. Guatemala has 300 varieties of non-stinging bees, which ours turned out to bee. They seem similar to yours. Other sailors in the same area a year earlier weren’t so lucky and were driven into the water by frenzied, stinging bees. Happy sailing.

I had a swarm land in a small willow in the middle of my lawn. A bee keeper put a few drops of jays fluid on the top of the willow. Apparently bees hate the smell. They then moved to the base of the tree away from the smell where the beekeeper could identify the queen. He picked her up and put her in a bucket and the swarm all followed. All except half a dozen who were convinced it was all my fault and were hell-bent on revenge……

Omg... One day I was fishing with some friends for groupers and snappers in Cabo Rojo, PR. We were 4 on a 17' fisherman's yola, like 7-10 miles from the nearest coast. Suddenly a lone bee appear. We were curious but kept fishing. Like 2 minutes later another bee and in 5 minutes we had like 10 bees and decided to move fast since more were coming. We decided to move fast and run and fish at another spot. We scared the bees from our boat surface and motored full speed close to 20=22 mph... At full speed , 5 min after, we could see one small dot behind our boat , following us, flying full speed (like 5 feet high from sea level and 5 yards back) over our wake. We continued for 10-15 minutes and anchored and began fishing again. Five min later one bee arrived, 2 min later another one and another one and in less than 10 min we had like 2 dozen bees again on our boat. We moved again this time further same thing happened like 5 times and we could not believed it. At one of the the last spots we stayed longer and had even more, but none were stinging, until my friend got another fish and accidentally stepped on one. Those bees were probably very tired to be flying so far from shore. They desperately needed a surface. It was an interesting day of fishing. We had to move from spots even though we were having good luck fishing.We kept moving and fishing and moving and fishing... Just one feet sting... There was always a very fast flying loner bee much faster than the rest.I think it was her mission to not lose us. Fun day at sea anyway! Going to watch your video now... First time I comment without watching first... Good luck with your channel!
