Hi, I’m the guy who talked to you before I sailed out of Marigot before the storm was supposed to hit. Glad it worked out for both of us. Not so lucky for friends in the mangroves in Carriacou and those in Prickly bay who wound up on the beach. I ended up in Grenada, saw the forecast the next morning and ran for Trinidad. I was in that big group of AIS targets. Lol. It was the best sail (regatta?) of the season and Trinidad was fantastic. The storm didn’t turn until last minute, so we were actually sailing into the eye of a cat 4 for a while- talk about disheartening. Take care.

Hi Lauren My name is Barrie I’m from Kansas. I was visiting my son in Joplin when the tornado hit the town. Not to bad where I was at. Down the road from where I was at a Video rental store looked like it had exploded. Video tapes were all over. It sure did damage a lot of the town. Don’t want to be that close to a tornado again. Have a great time sailing. Fair winds and following sea’s.

Longtime KZbin subscriber. Being as old as your grandfather and having just purchased my new to me 44ft. Alden cutter(my 9th. Vessel), please excuse me if I seem to be meddling in your weather understanding. Don’t forget the Earth is moving away from the sun on its axis in our hemisphere coupled with the gulf streams north flowing current storms normally move NW then NNW. The Bahamas could become a death trap if we see cat fives as we have over 2 of the last four years we now being in that fourth year. that’s a pretty impressive shift in the usual patterns owing to the slowing of the gulfstream, and the rapid accumulation of warm water at depth. Be save we all❤your spirit!

I remember that tornado in Joplin. I was actually just west of it on 44 on a run from LA to the NE (with a stop at home in Lake Ozark) before it touched down. I made the choice to get off 44 and drop south to 60 (a ways out of my way) to avoid the weather. If I hadn’t made that decision, I would have been right there in Joplin when it arrived. Scary day. But not near as frightening as surviving Ian. I’m pretty sure I have weather ptsd now. I hate hurricane season these days. Stay safe ⛵️

I went thru a few hurricanes and Wilma was the worst to damage part of my house roof, that is a stick built house in Big Pine Key. A tree damage the corner of the house roof water did enter the house. I did repairs to the roof early because every other person was waiting on a roofer I called a few roofer but my roof was a small project and I never got a return call from a roofer. For me it pays to know how to repair a roof. Dealing with insurance is a royal pain you pay major amounts of money for insurance than wind and flood insurances wants to shaft you! I feel for those people that have nothing left after the hurricane that is so devastating to have your house totally demolished by the hurricane.
