So, besides just designing patterns for fabrics, a textile designer is like a fashion designer where they have to decide what fabric or dye they need to use, how durable the fabric would be, etc.. The only difference is they don’t sew?

Yes, that's a good description of it! They will make product detail and construction decisions, but all samples made and, of course, mass production are done by the factory, not the individual designer.

Ma'am I am Manoj Botabyal, I live in India, I have been in design work in textile for many years, I also draw by hand and do software work but my problem is that I don't have a degree diploma or any good qualification but I do all kinds of work. I am planning to start as a production handloom weaver, which I suppose is none of the above. My goal is to gradually add to my equipment (including industrial looms) until I am able to own and operate my own small fabric mill. Edit: Im also interested in loom design, which is neither here nor there.

Hi... I studied textile design at PAF India a decade ago. I haven't worked after some working experiences. It's been more than 6 years. Now would like to continue with my designing career. Can I have your suggestions regarding opportunities and possibilities to get a job.

Hi Vasu, thanks for reaching out! I'm not super familiar with the job market in India, unfortunately. However, you can always sell your designs on sites like Shutterstock, Patternbank, etc, while you are job hunting. :) Best of luck!
