I understand your pain with migraines. When I find a scent that's tolerable in anything from dish and laundry soap and fabric softener to shampoo and conditioner, I stick with it. And, it also needs to not cause a skin irritation, I have sensitive skin on top of a sensitive olfactory. 🙄
@jessicaharrison47193 жыл бұрын
I am cursed with a really, really sensitive nose, sensory issues (thanks, ADHD!), and a tendency towards migraines. And yet, I love things that smell nice, so if I find a candle or fragrance that doesn't trigger my migraines or my sensory issues, I will use it, and I have put up with upset stomach, feeling really overwhelmed, and migraines in order to find fragrances that I love. But I totally understand if that isn't a priority for everyone, what I put myself through is probably crazy.

On the vanilla perfumes question, I just recently tried the Lavanila-Vanilla Grapefruit option through Scentbird and I really like it. the grapefruit gives it an initial almost-masculine spiciness for the first hour or so I wear it, but then fades into a cozy vanilla. I ended up adding it to my wishlist for the holidays.
@jessicaharrison47193 жыл бұрын
I come from a household of allergy and migraine sufferers, and so I was not allowed to explore fragrances when I was younger, so now that I am an adult, I am working on finding what I like and also what my sensory issues, overly strong olfactory sense, and migraines will allow me to use. I am loving fragrance content right now!

We are coming into fall and all I want is to smell like a coastal graveyard or a starbucks garbage can in the best way imaginable (salty, mossy, dirty; spiced fruit, coffee, chocolate). 😅 Would love to see a video later on about initial dry down thoughts vs. what notes you get once the fragrance has settled, and perhaps getting others to try them as well since body chemistry and olefactory accuity is different for everyone.

This description of scent made me burst out laughing 😂 I immediately thought about myself walking in the all-day pervasive rain on my college campus while I scurried to Starbucks to get a latte and study. The shop was alone High Street in a major city and the smells were just…wow haha. I imagined all the grounds from the day in a garbage can with discarded mocha latte cups on top of overly salted French fries. The warm fall rain had basically steamed this outside garbage can so that when I walked by I said, “ugh gross…but not bad.” Quite the “scent”-sory experience.

I do NOT like gourmands, I cant stand vanilla, I feel so overwhelmed with anything too sweet or cloying, especially if they then punch me with florals. But EB Bee is the only gourmand I have ever loved. Not just liked, but loved, wanted it on mah BODY. The rum brings it this cozy, very slightly boozy but it's more about adding depth and more complexity to the dominant true honey note. And people say vanilla but I don't get any vanilla, thankfully. It's such a hug of a scent, I reach for it whenever I need a little kindness in my day.

I have a scent memory and didn’t realize that this was a thing until a few years ago. I now like to buy a bottle of something on long vacations and exclusively use that. When I spray it again, it’s the best feeling ever to vividly remember even how your food tasted. I can remember the outfits I wore, the temperatures, the jokes, the hotel rooms. Amazing.

I just made my order today after testing all of these for the past couple weeks. Ended up with the Maison #12, which was kind of a dark horse in there for me -- I generally am not a fan of most of those notes, and on paper, it smelled...not so great. But on my skin? Totally blossomed. The cardamom and ginger balanced out with the cedar really nicely, and it lasted *forever*, which is a plus. (I already had Terre, Pear Inc, Bee, and Vanilla Skies, so those were out. Daisy went 100% oakmoss on me after an hour, which was sad, because I really *really* like the rest of it. I ordered a rollie of the Versace since it felt a little seasonal to me. I *loved* the Rose on my skin -- another one that didn't work on the paper, but did when warmed -- but it faded after maybe an hour.) One note about the Bee -- do try it on your skin. Honey notes tend to mellow a lot when warmed, and you might like it better once it's been on your wrist for fifteen-ish minutes. :)

Two base scents that I dislike deeply-rose and vanilla. I was a broke 20 something and was down to my gift perfumes from people who didn't know me very well & just gave me something popular. Broke out the Vanilla Fields as the least heinous of bottles & did the one spray & walk through and went to my 9 hour shift at work. I stopped smelling it on myself around hour 5. Around hour 7 I just kept getting customer compliments from at least 10 people. It was weird because I couldn't smell it at all. I splurged not long after that & VF was back in the drawer😄

You should totally check out some indie perfume companies, especially since you love niche perfumes and indie makeup. They do great "unique" scents. I've tried stuff mainly from Alkemia and Fantome and found some great ones. Eg, if you're looking for mossy, Bune by Fantome smells exactly like walking in a humid deciduous forest in the summer. I have tested this out by walking in the woods near my house and smelling the exact scent of Bune even though I wasn't wearing it. Both these brands have quite affordable sample packs too.

Ani by Nishane is probably my favorite vanilla but tobacco & tonka bean by banana republic is good too. Actually, most of those banana republic scents in the squarish glass bottles are surprisingly good, so if y’all can find them at discount retailers I recommend them. Oh and the iconic tobacco vanille by tom ford is great too

I'm not the biggest fan of a lot of "department store" perfumes save for a select few. Some of my current faves are Mac's Crème d'Nude, Maison Margiela Replica Beach Walk and Atelier Cologne Lemon Island. My favorite vanilla is the Lavanila The Healthy Fragrance in Pure Vanilla. They have other vanilla combos. Some of the most interesting vanillas I've found are from Sylvaine Delacourte. They have collections of 5 samples each.

My favorite vanillas are Diptyque's Eau Duelle (it's a fresh vanilla, sweet but also somewhat green) and L'Artisan Parfumeur's Couleur Vanille (a strong, deep vanilla with a spicy amber base)
