Here from Erin Parsons. So glad she recommended your vid. My paternal grandmother recalled having the first bobbed hair in her area. It caused scandal when she returned from a school trip to Paris in the early 1920s with a "shingled" hairstyle

My grandma told me that long hair takes your energy and shorter hair is healthy because it uses less energy. This wives tale was told to her by people of that era. So I wonder that might be why some nurses and women during ww1 and the Spanish flu cut their hair.

I shaved my head 8 months ago and finally have a bob hairstyle!! I've been struggling to style it, not only because its shorter but because its all the same length. The 1920's has been my biggest hairstyle inspiration, I'm now rocking a 1920's "windblown" bob that is bright purple🎉 Got to get that Gen Z edge from somewhere💗💗

I absolutely adored this video, thank you for posting! Every time I go to the salon I show them bob photos from the 20’s of what I want and it never looks quite like it. Ohhhh...you did look familiar, but it took me looking through your old videos for it to 'click'. You did that iconic Primrose Pincurl video years ago, when I just started being interested in vintage hair styling! Sadly, I never managed to grow my hair out enough for a hairdo like that 😅. Nice to see, you're posting again. I'm flirting with the idea of a somewhat more dramatic bob atm. Maybe that cheekbone hugging style. But I learned from past mistakes and ordered a wig first, this time. So I can have a slightly better idea, of what it will look like on me 😎

Another thing I've noticed is how hairstyles popular in the 1960's emulates alot of these 1920's ones. Nowadays we've made a full circle and going short is becoming more popular especially among Gen Z

I have my aunt Edna’s collage yearbook from 1920 and the Moana bob and Lee bob were all over that it’s funny to because some of the other hairstyle I see in that 104 yo book mad a comeback in the 60s

Fun fact, the bob is named after Louise Brook's eccentric uncle. She went to get her hair trimmed and the end result looked like her Uncle Bob. She said "Oh no, you've given me the dreaded 'Bob' " and thus a name was born.

Isn't the horseshoe another name for a midi haircut of the 40's? If it's a horseshoe bob, I would assume it's a short midi or baby similar to the ones in theo 50's but possibly with less layering. Perhaps this is the origin of that haircut, styles are cyclical.

are tatoos really that much accepted? i guess it's no longer seen as a particularly masculine thing to do if that's what you mean. I would argue trousers are much more accepted

I was just on IG the other day where I saw a vintage-style model get absolutely pummeled by commenters about her tattoos, and she's not the only one either. That said, it is much more accepted in the west than it is over here in the east where I'm currently at. Here you can be forbidden from entering certain establishments (EVEN THE BEACH) if you have any visible tattoos. They claim that it's because of tattoos association with criminals and the mafia, but more "average Janes and Joes" have them today than criminals so I don't think that's entirely true. I read an interview with a famous Japanese tattoo artist a few years back who said that while the majority of his clientele when he first started out were indeed the mafia, these days he very rarely see them anymore because they avoid getting tattoos because of the stigma surrounding them. You are more likely to see a tattoo on a popstar or your average young Japanese fashionista than you are on a mafioso.. Still, the stigma (and discrimination) remains. Better yet; giving someone a tattoo is illegal in many countries (Japan and Korea being two examples). And I'm not talking your average person picking up a tattoo-gun off eBay and doing them in their basement, I'm talking trained tattoo artists with professional studios. (Because you "break the skin" when you do a tattoo, the law states that you need a medical license to do it, but let's be real; nobody is going to medical school just to become a tattoo artist) You still see studios around (some are hidden though - especially here in Korea) but there are regular "crack-downs" on them. There was a famous case in Japan some time ago where one tattoo artist finally decided to fight back and try to change the law. It's a very slow process though. All that said, would I say that tattoos are "accepted"? Depends on your definition of "accepted" and where you're located.. But compared to the bob? Definitely not. I agree with you that pants would be a better thing to compare it to.

Yes. I am definitely telling this story from the perspective of the West. And trousers are a great example of something completely unacceptable for women becoming acceptable. But I feel like that was a slower transition. It didn't take one decade for trousers to become accepted. That was a battle women had to fight for many decades. My mom still couldn't wear pants to public school in the 1960s. I know a lawyer that had to wear a skirt in certain courtrooms well into the 1980s.
