Lol it's just a movie , in reality most guys who do this romantic , thier relationship only lasts for few years . That's why in western countries 40-50% of marriages ends up in divorce and 95% of first relationships in western countries doesn't even last more than 4 years BUT in India only 1% divorce. I am glad Sashi didn't end up being with Laurent in the end, because that could have fucked up the purpose of the story entirely!!! At one point in the movie Sashi says, "I don't need love, but respect." Respect and appreciation was all she needed!!! Not extramarital affair. Her husband realizes this in the end. The ending was more realistic IMO.

I've just finished watching this movie this afternoon and it was an amazing film with a good concept yet very interesting they showed how mush respect is more important than love sometimes and i can said the acting of sridevi also the little kid along with the lovely grandma without forgetting the romantic french guy Laurant also the mesmerizing view of the skyscrapers of Newyork and the nice vibes of Manhattan ( personally i think there's something very special about films in Newyork that makes love there very unique actually i've noticed that in kal ho naa ho and kabhi alvida naa kehna, well that magnetic scenery and the background music also the acting make the film a mastepiece, i don't know if you all felt the same but anyway... )also the simplicity of the film without those cliché typical repetitive songs have touched me very deeply. Well i think as a moroccan girl who knows french-by heart (yeah it's the french colonisation my friends ) and a quite good english also i'm getting fluent in hindi day after day since 3 years now i can proudly say that i've understood 90% of what they were saying also i'm getting very familiar with the names of cities food and some ethnic and religious aspects about India ( yeah even engineering school and the hectic studies cannot stop me from watching bollywood movies and learning hindi after all dealing with machines maths and physics makes our heart like a stone and we all need from time to time something that give back our innocence happiness and good emotions, am i right?). Well sorry if you find this a quite long comment ( actually it is VERY LONG ) but i thought it may be a good one to express my love to bollywood films ( the good and meaningful ones actually) so thank you very mush for reading dear foreigner and sorry for an other time😊.

Shashi and Laurent could have ended up like this. And one day Shashi called Sapna with quivering hands. Saying that she was nervous, was an understatement. He understood that Shashi often missed her children and although they had little Nyasa, Sagar and Sapna would always be Shashi's children. She was dialing in the number while looking at her husband who was looking at her as if she is the one who hangs the sun each morning. How Shashi ended up with this amazing man as her admirer-turned-husband is yet a mystery she has to solve and she has a whole happy married life with Laurent to solve that. Like every other time, this time too, nobody picked up the call. "She will come around, just like Sagar and his father did. Don't worry, Love." Laurent told his wife as he started working up the tension in Shashi's shoulders. " I hope, she does", said a smiling Shashi while offering a ladoo to Laurent.

@@ngl_rahul Firstly, the makers of this film are people far more intelligent than me and trust me, the situation of Shashi and Laurent ending up together would not have been missed by them. Since they didn't act on that situation, they gave the people of the world the rights to imagine. Secondly, जब किसी चीज़ को कल्पना के पंख लग सकते हैं तो उसे दृश्यों की बेड़ियों में बाँधना समझदारी नहीं होती है।

Sashi has been potrayed as a woman of high dignity & her main purpose of joining the class was to learn english so that she could command respect from those who always subdued her. And in India, chastity is the most respectable qualities of woman . If sashi had selfishly fallen for laurent, what would be the fate of her son n daughter, her in laws parents ? Laurent had genuine admiration for her b8 sashi has once again shown her streak of self-esteem by not getting lured by a handsome foreign man . Laudable !

But if her own family members used her weaknesses to subdue her, they violate the very definition of family. A family is supposed to be nurturing and supportive towards each other, allow space for growth, and not pull each other down. it is better to leave such abusive, dysfunctional families. And that decision is not selfish. Sashi was portrayed as a quintessential Indian woman who will sacrifice anything and everything for the family, even if there is no reciprocation from them. Thats how most Indian wives and mothers are. Their value lies in being sacrificial. But every human being, including women, deserve to be treated with respect. Sashi should have left her husband. But then, the Indian audience would not have liked her or the movie. Its a very carefully crafted ending.
