I SO feel you about having a difficult time making friends. I'm socially anxious most of the time and a quiet/introverted person, and I also worry that people think I'm mean/stand-offish because I don't get in on conversations. You are not alone. I'm sure once you get more comfortable around your co-workers the better your experience will be.

I feel the way you describe often, even around people I have known for years! As the comments below show, we are not alone in this. I often worry about shyness being misinterpreted as being aloof. This is all just very human, I guess. I’m sure you’ll settle in over time, and at least over Christmas, you can get to know your co-workers better over these social engagements! Looks like you have a great bunch of friends though which must help! I’ll hopefully be starting a new job in the new year so have all this to come myself. These vlogs are brilliant - so professional!

I completely can understand your start of the week worries Lauren, I have the same issue and I worry that people might think I'm standoffish when in fact I'm just really shy and find it hard to talk to people I don't know. Glad your week got better though!

So with you on the filming procrastination. Mine is a confidence thing at the moment, I just think they are going to be shit. On that note, I now have vlogging envy again. Hahaha. You are so ace and everyone is going to love you loads like we all do. People don't need your presents they have you in there life, so there. I so get you on the days off alone not counting if you don't do everything on the list in your head but sometimes we need to chill with ourselves. The nan date was such a lovely thing.

I love seeing Booktubers' vlogs and I relate to all the stuff you said at the beginning of the video SO HARD, the stuff about being shy and worrying about coming across as uppity because you're paralysed into quietness (or words to that effect haha). It's actually quite comforting to hear someone else say it out loud and that it's not just me. Also, really nice to see your week brightened up and ended on such a lovely note

I completely identify with feeling like you’re being quiet and like you’re making it difficult for people to get to know you. It was refreshing to hear someone talk about it. I’ve been at my job five years and sometimes when the harmless hit me right I still feel that way even though I have a lot of good friends at work. Sometimes too I feel like that after a day off since everyone has already been together without me a day. I hope you have a nice holiday.

In my family we do something called 'Wichteln' (it's a German word 🙂). Everybody picks just one name out of a box and gives a gift to that person. That way everyone receives a gift but it is not too overwhelming. Hope you are feeling better and I am sure it just takes some time and you will get to know people at work better. PS: PMS is the worst!

I love your videos, and one of the things I especially love is how real and honest you are! I totally get what you mean, thank you for sharing this one in particular.. I suffer from social anxiety and find it harder to make friends and engage with people now I'm in my early 30's, especially as I now work from home. It is reassuring to remember that I'm not alone with these feelings, and that some of it can be overcome if we give ourselves time and space to get to know people in a way that is comfortable and not overwhelming. Keep up the great content

omg I relate so much, I am so shy and socially anxious when it comes to making friends especially as an adult without the structure of uni or school. I'm so glad it turned out ok in the end :) I am also terrible at buying presents, I'm very glad I have a small family so I don't have to many too buy!

I appreciate you sharing this vlog. I find you to be warm & funny so never would have imagined you having trouble making friends, but that just goes to show that IRL struggles affect us all. I also loved your comments about enjoying being with your family...my son and his wife love spending time with me, something I never would have imagined when he was a teenager!🤓

It is funny how we feel like as we get older it should be easier to navigate socially but it's just not true. We are our own worst critics. Just know you're not alone in feeling awkward at times, and hey you have 21k people who enjoy your company!

I'm really bad at making friends too. I feel like I'm either too shz and quiet or talk too much and too hyper, since I can't get really excited at social events. If I actually make it there :D found it really refreshing you talking about it that honestly

I hate social settings especially when I'm new. It's fine when I'm talking to the one or two guys from work that I know but if they wander off to talk to someone else (cause they don't have trouble getting to know people...) I end up alone and it's so awkward and I don't feel like just walking up to someone else and join their conversations...

Lauren, If you hate shopping at Xmas, why do you do it? Give yourself a break, and permission, to start a new tradition that actually makes you happy. Maybe bake something and give that to everyone. Or, just write personal letters. Xmas is not about stuff :) It's about joy and people. Hope that gives you some new ideas.
