I like how they play a verse and chorus of Jesse Polka (or Jessuita en Chichauhua) in the middle of the song. This is the song that brought me to Montana Public Radio. I was not very familiar with Laurie and was listening to the Folk Show on MTPR as the host at the time played it in the spring of 1994. Before the internet, emails, facebook, you tube, etc. I actually wrote to him and asked him who had done the song. He responded and then mentioned that he was going to be at a festival I was performing at soon and he would like to meet me. So we did. He also mentioned that he was going to be leaving the show and it was probably going off the schedule at public radio. I thought about that and wrote a letter to the station manager telling him I would like to do the show, that I had recording equipment and knew a lot of musicians and music from hard core Country to Bluegrass and etc. He wrote back and said they would give me a chance, to send him a cassette tape of a show and he would listen to it. Mark left after college graduation -- his last show was in June of 1995 and my first show went on the air July 4th of 1995. I am now coming up on 24 years of hosting the show along with other people as well as quite a few that have come and gone over the years. Every year in May I play Texas Bluebonnets by Laurie. Still a great song and a great cut.

Well, I'm only a year late stumbling on this comment. Thanks so much for your story! I love community radio, and am thrilled that I had a tiny bit to do with you having a radio show. Thanks for playing my song. I have a new CD out. If you didn't receive a radio copy and would like one, please contact me through my website, laurielewis.com

KILLER guitar break from Peter McLaughlin! And some tasty altered chord licks in Alan Munde's brief solo.

The twin fiddles and harmonies make this song jump. One of the best from the Laurie and Tom treasure chest.

I really like this song and have attempted it at jamborees. I don't know how Laurie gets all the lyrics in with such a fast tempo. Awesome bluegrass song, just the same. I will keep on practicing this one. ♥

I've thought for almost a decade that the Quebe Sisters could do a terrific job with this song.

Great band! Unfortunately, there seems to be a technical problem with the video. You can't hear her backup singer. His fiddle playing, yes, but not his voice. He has two mikes, and it's as if the one he's singing into is dead. I doubt that, though. They would have stopped and dealt with that on the spot. So it must be a problem with the video.

Tom’s vocal harmony and fiddle are clear as a bell. You don’t hear the duet?
@rahoman114 жыл бұрын
On the chorus Tom's singing the the melody while Laurie jumps to the harmony. Pretty cool. I hear them both distinctly. Tom can hit those high notes!
