Fairly generic blues to these ears…been a hardcore Blues fan since ‘70’s high school. I generally bypassed most of the atypical blues-rockers after making my Johnny Winter + Muddy Waters connection at that time…right to the real deal, heavyweights. Sue Foley, 🇨🇦 that’s what I’m talking about‼️

Not my cup of tea. Solo after solo, even if they’re good gets old. Solos are like the icing on the cake. I don’t want a bowl of icing. The cake (the song) is the most important part of the equation. Blues does get old if the band is not creatively trying to avoid the familiar blues tropes that you hear at so many blues festivals. Willie Dixon is a great example of how to do it right. His songs were so varied and unique. It takes a lot of time and creative effort to create blues songs that stand on their own as unique compositions. The song, the voice, and (gasp!) even some defining melody (not found in much of blues music in the last several decades) are crucial. The rest is icing.
@mikeenos40406 күн бұрын
I agree except for the not my cup of tea comment.. To much icing or soloing can get old quick .. got to balance that out, in my opinion.. but it is ok. Music is an art no rules apply.. She sounds good I love the blues style music

I did sound for quite a few years for various festivals. There were rock bands, jazz bands, acoustic solo, and duos. The Blues bands were mostly memorable for how hard they were to work with. They were rude, and really narcissistic for the most part. Nothing was good enough, and there was always an issue. It was all I could do to resist telling them, "you realize you only know one song, right?" I used to really like the blues. Now I just can't stand it. Mind not blown. Same old 1 4 5 wank off jamming.

One blues every now and then is great. Ten, fifteen, is, er, too much, always. By the third set of 12 bars it gets boring. By the seventh set? And I have to say that as a guitarist, not necessarily that good, Laurie isn't much either. She's like a cook who does great pancakes, but would you eat 20 pancakes in one sitting? Great guitar needs imagination. She doesn't seem to have much at all.

@@jokermaan1 I’m not talking about this video, I’m talking about blues in general. Great blues is great - after this I again listened to Hendrix with Red House and BB King Born Under A Bad Sign just to remind myself how good it can be when it works. The problem for blues is that the bar is very high, and if it doesn’t quite work, it is dull to dire.
