She is a whole human who had something very traumatizing happen to her but still a whole human being! The mother was real for everything she said and I commend her for not letting her feelings get the better of her - feelings being her potentially feeling sorry for the girl. It was as if she was talking to herself when she said that her son shouldn't marry Nayoon out of sympathy but because he genuinely saw her as not lacking anything.

All I got was a mother who wasn't happy because her son is bringing a woman who is defective in her eyes home. She the mom had to deal with it. Once she realized it was a joke she was cool and laughing and happy. But before she wasn't. What about this woman with no arm? What if they was really in love with each other? I don't get it. I know it's a different culture, but East Asians tend to be really hard on their kids. Just my thoughts on the matter. I don't mean to offend anyone. I just have an issue with the idea of this lady being seen as a problem just because she is missing an arm. Korea, for a people that has endured a lot of prejudice from other people (Japan looking at you), why are you so judge-mental of others? Again, Im not trying to offend Koreans here. Maybe you are right, maybe I am cynical. I watch a lot of these videos. After watching tons of these videos. It's always about the mother disapproving of the person their child's chooses to marry/date. It's always disguised as being concerned about their child's welfare, but it comes off as superficial. The mom doesn't like this person because of X. But I will disguise it with some reverse psychology, I care rhetoric. Usual because the person in question doesn't fit some standard of Korean greatness or beauty. When Koreans get mad at South East Asians their first insults are short, fat, dark. It's never about the character of the person, but the way the person looks. I know giggle is trying dismantle these biases with these videos. Like look mom I'm marrying a black person, or a person with Tattoos. But seeing the disabled woman hit a nerve for me. Because that woman is being presented as a negative that has to be proven worthy of marriage, and not just accepted as so. Yeah it could be disguised as her son being problematic. But I have a hard time believing the mother would be at odds if it was a beautiful Kpop idol like Bae Suzy or Sullyoon wanting to marry her son. She would be over the moon, and not looking for the bad reason her son might want to be with this person. Again I have seen way too many of these videos and it made me cynical of Korean Beauty standards to the point of frustratingly writing these post. I just need to chill and detox from these kind of videos. @@lindencarlos4222 Honestly after reading both of your comments it is evident you have a certain view and oppinion of the Korean culture that you are projecting onto the conversation that occured in this video. If you are cynical then you are likely somewhat of a realist and that is the point of view that the mother is taking. Without a shadow of a doubt having a girlfriend with one arm is going to cause difficulties in a relationship that otherwise would have never been the case and it is too much of a fantasy fairy tale ideology to think otherwise. She takles some of her worries of how the couple would interact and mantain a long term relationship in that conversation: 1) the logistics of her taking care of herself, being able to drive and not using sypathy as a tool to get more from her partner, 2) she turns to her son and tells him that you have to make sure you view her equally so no prejudice or recentment gets built up over the course of the relationship, and 3) she wanted to ensure that the woman wasn't going to get her heart broken by her son due to the potential of him being shallow and not taking this relationship seriously. These 3 points were brought up to ensure that they tackle marriage as equal partners. The mom never once mentioned beauty, wealth, or used reverse psycology. I want to make a point out of you complainning of the prejudice that is held in Korea (which although in many cases is true) it was not present in this video. So It is clear you are brining your own prejudice into the conversation. If you have to repeat in your comment that you don't want to offened someone it's because you are likely saying something that others will find offensive otherwise you'd have felt no need to preface your opinions. Be careful about what view you project onto things and try to be more objective and I think you'll find yourself being less cynical about things.

Definitely the world can be harsh with people with limitations, but the people that make it harsh for them are the ones that make it an issue. This lady did make it an issue and it is brutal. Luckly it's a prank but in reality Koreans do have an issue with this type of situations. Even if you are missing a finger or an ear, that will be a mayor issue. And I know this because my wife is Corean and she told me this is a big flaw in the Corean culture.

Ahh....ok, I can understand if you thought the mother was judging the girlfriend. I blame the translation for this, if you're depending on the English translation that is. It didn't do a proper job of translating what the mother said. Also, the mother's facial expressions are a little difficult to read correctly. So together with the bad translation, it can come across as the mother looking down on the girlfriend for being disabled. But that's not what's really happening here.
