I think it's not just because she is pretty and he cares just about looks. But in life, people who are pretty are considered out of reach, everyone admires them and wants to leave a good impression on them. The "ugly " people are more relatable ones and you can easily form closeness with them cause you expect them to go through hardships in life just like you. While everyone thinks pretty people have it easy in life and they would never understand your problems. He even said that he was chubby and he felt more comfortable around person that is as well. But the other girl is probably perfect in his eyes, and that's intimidating. Plus, he was shy with both of them, especially in the beginning. It's just that Jianh was giving comforting vibes

I can so relate to Jiahn. Im pretty much a pessimist when it comes to relationships that I dont allow myself to have crushes on anyone because I automatically assume they wont be into me. SK has a massive beauty above all culture (compared to many others). Plenty of people have gotten cosmetic surgery just to be hired at work. They are, at the moment, extremely looks focused and also fairly classist. That's why they value light skin, because the association is that you didn't have to work out in the sun and could be indoors because you have resources/money to not work as hard in dangerous conditions. It's so ingrained that it's not really thought about (this is everywhere by the way, it's the same reason Europeans like extra light skin too. It's classism. In America, tan became popular because rich people could afford to go to exotic places on vacation and get a tan due to relaxing, not working in the sun.) Being poor, neurodivergent or "ugly" are huge no-no's basically. It's changing overtime, but it's a big hurdle for SK and many of the east Asiatic cultures. Not that the west doesn't have it's own issues, but they're in different places and different levels. Two biggest things are the work culture and the beauty culture and how not working yourself to death and looking stunning are suicide worthy faux pas. That definitely needs to be addressed. In schools, bullying by seniors for being poor, ugly or different are a huge issue.

Obviously looks has a lot to do with it but also the way they are coming across. Even if you couldn’t see the speakers the second girl seemed happier, more interesting, cheerful, engaged even when talking about struggles. Awkwardness alone is one thing but the main issue i see is that the first girl mentioned it felt like therapy and that’s probably because she’s carrying the weight of her hardships like it’s her banner of war and right out the gate too. And her mannerisms give off too much of that vibe of needing to be liked by others. People want relationships with those who bring out the positive, inspire growth and fun and help them appreciate life more, not one where they’re primarily carrying your burdens.

no but the thing is every 'big' person when they lose weight, they always turn out to look very pretty but can't say the same for skinny people...I've been skinny all my life and it doesn't matter if i gain a little weight or lose weight, my face doesn't get any flatterer. I'm not saying being 'big' or 'fat' is bad or not bad, but I do want to point out the fact that if you try hard and take care to stay in shape for your own self and health, you always have a high chance to become self confident and pretty. Ofc I'm not saying you to go on extreme diet, just eat lots of healthy food and keep on exercising and working out.
