I graduated hs like 4 years ago and we always had an option to put our phones in a bin to get extra points towards that class’s grades. I and many others always did it, easy points. It’s only the people outside of the honors classes in my high school that use their phones an absurd amount during classes. Either way it’s a shame it’s even a problem

My eldest daughter a V.P. in a prominent Hospitality Corporation. She insituted policy No cell phones on duty. Must be jn employees locker. 1st violation,, sent home. 2nd violation, 3 day suspension. 3rd,,Youre Fired. AMWAY Hospitality Corporation.

Our school district banned them last January. Made a huge difference in getting kids to pay attention and interacting with each other. Kids have to check in phones in the phone locker after home room and they pick them back up at the end of the day in the same classroom using their own key code so no one else can get there phone. If you're caught with your phone during the day you get ISS then next level is suspension.

Students have not been allowed to use cells during CLASS for 5-7 yrs, here. Why do they need to ban during breaks? My grandkids completely turn off their phones from before school, until after.

Do not give up your child’s right to possess their phones. If you do, this will open your children up to being exploited, which has already happened on countless occasions. Imagine your child being mishandled, misinformed or even abused and your child cannot seek help with the utilization of their phone or record what’s being done to seek justice, because it’s not in their possession.

Yes, but many videos taken in schools are of kids bullying other kids and posting it online. One girl commited suicide because of her embarrassment at having a video of her getting beat up in a hallway posted on the 'net. Videos of bad teachers are kind of rare. I think it'd be better to have CCTV cameras all over the schools instead.

You know, I this is a bad rule for school students….to ban ALL cell phones during the school day. Given the history of school shootings in the US, students should be able to have a “dumb” or basic cell phone during the school day. They should be able to communicate to parents or the police in an emergency situation. Ban smartphones, allow basic phones.

social media addiction is not a easy thing to get rid of, you can't simply ban it. theres stuff that goes on in a childs life and social media is a safety net for some kids. this outright ban without addressing the core issues is a typical bandaid. they can't study the reasons why teens and kids are hooked onto social media within the district so instead they just issue a typical bandaid and think its over with. nope its not over with. you'd think after the first ban it was declared a failure but nope.

what about kids that have a insulin pump that is connected to a insulin pump? what if a student has a diabetic medical plan and a 504 plan for medical uses for type 1 diabetes? do these schools want the diabetic students to die from complications from diabetes?

If students dont like it , they can drop out , or just not go to school. Do they even have truancy officers anymore . Will teachers call parents if they arent in class ?? Students don't need to call anyone because they're children. It's the school employees job to call 911 if there's an emergency.

@@Paige_PrescottIt doesn’t matter if it’s a school employee or not. Let’s say there was a shooting going on and they have you at gunpoint at the classroom. Who’s going to be quicker at calling 911? The employee’s or a student? If I were to take a wild guess it would be the student! If they have an employee called 911 and they were like 2 minutes away from a phone then the shooter would probably have killed a few kids by then! That’s why every second is critical and the more time you take to call 911 the more lives that are at risk and possibly dead!

If a call comes in to 911 from a child often times the dispatcher will think it's a prank. (Kids do pranks like that.) I'd rather have a responsible adult calling 911 instead of some kid. And Police don't need a thousand calls coming from the same school from kids hogging up the lines.

Having a police presence in schools and arming teachers would be way better than letting kids bring cellphones to school, the devices are more of a hindrance than a help anyway.

So an existing 2011 policy already bans cell phones, "but not fully enforced," and kids 13 years later to give up their phone for an entire day? Most parents are unable to get their kids off the phone. I'm so thankful growing up in LA during a time when common sense was more common.

About time the kids learn that there is an emergency everybody else already knows. Admin has called the authorities and that's all that needs to be done. Children get parents all super scared, calling them frantically when their parents cannot do anything.
