Was literally just looking up sealing my Weber and got notified of this video. How coincidental and now I know where to buy the right size stuff :). Bought an old Weber not long ago and tried some smoke chips last night and it leaks a lot all the way around.
@jaydeebee25118 жыл бұрын
+coldfusionite do it.. I just reverse seared and smoked some tomahawks. The difference is amazing. Just uploaded a video of the tomahawks. The lavalock is frickin awesome. The Weber smokes now so much better. Heat retention is better. Stable constant temp is easier to maintain. And the smoking mahogany color is so much richer. For a few dollars I can not recommend the lavalock enough

I finally invested in some lavalock, what was I waiting for. It makes all the difference. I got it super fast from that American BBQ mob.

+phrayzar it’s fantastic stuff. Really helps keep steady temps for low and slow Cooking

Just installing mine today, can't wait for the results, thanks for the video!
@jaydeebee25116 жыл бұрын
How did it go. Did it perform well after you installed the gasket ?
@crunchmunch52826 жыл бұрын
Pretty easy to install, I put it on the lid only and it worked great! My lid is a little warped I think but all the smoke comes out the vent now instead of the sides of the lid. I am hoping this helps with the temperature swings also but I need to give it a few more tests to see. Thanks again.
@jaydeebee25116 жыл бұрын
You will find once you get the temp where you want it, and the vents are set right it will hold that temp. I have been able to get the temp steady for up to 10 hours no prob. I can run a snake 2wide 3high with heat beads for 10hours at a steady temp with about 1/3 circumference of heat beads used on a 57cm kettle.

OK please note this is Nomex Felt with Silicone Adhesive, Also note the adhesive is only rated up to 260c short term *500 deg , running temp is 180c -360deg, please note to use acetone to clean the surface, but also note in time the adhesive will cook out.

It’s sticks pretty good? I have the same one you do but I bought a tube of high temp RTV to seal it instead of just sticking it on and I’m not sure if I should use it as is or use the RTV.

Stuck perfectly for me as is and has been going fine for years now without an issue

i need this product, my leaky lid has been giving me the shits for a while now. Thanks for doing the review.
@jaydeebee25118 жыл бұрын
+phrayzar get it. It's awesome. Mine leaked like a sieve. Now nothing. Added benefit, when I shut the vents after my cook on Saturday, the beads died out within 20 minutes as they were starved of oxygen. I was literally handling the Weber and it was cool enough to put hands on. The amount of fuel it will save will be huge. Also noticed how much richer the smoke flavour on my meat was, and how much deeper red color it got. Can't wait to try another brisket

My lava lock works great and I only did the lid! Only other places I see smoke is around the thermometer bezel and backing up through the burner tube (Performer Deluxe with gas starter. US model)
@jaydeebee25114 жыл бұрын
Yeah I get some around the thermometer. If we wanted to be anal about it we could seal that too. But the lava lock makes a big difference. Well worth the cost

6 months after publishing the video. Is lavalock still good? I mean, had to change it already?
@johndebellis76667 жыл бұрын
Jorge Takeshita not at all. I posted new videos last week cooking on the Weber with the same gasket and I highlighted in that video the effectiveness of the lavalock. Still works a treat. Has not come off or deteriorated. And I wash the bbq regularly and the soap and water seems to have done no damage. Only thing is it now very brown so I would suggest to the manufacturer to make the product in black rather than white

Did you put this around the rim of the lid as well? Did you have any issues with the fit at first? (fitting onto the bowl) I m worried my probe wires might not fit with it installed or possibly prop it up perhaps.
@jaydeebee25116 жыл бұрын
I did
@jaydeebee25116 жыл бұрын
But for the probes I drilled a little hole in the bowl sight above grill level and slightly below the rim and sealed it with gasket and made a little slice in it to pass thru the probes
@stevedoughja10346 жыл бұрын
@@jaydeebee2511 Thanks for the response Jay, I have the same kit but am unsure where to place it on the lid. Did you put it right where the lid "ends" as so it almost folds in a right angle over the bowl. I'm not sure if that makes sense.
@jaydeebee25116 жыл бұрын
I put it on the bowl over the rim. Then in the lid also on the rim but on the inside of the lid so it’s not visible on the outside when closed. Even though double layer is not necessary I found it to give a fantastic seal
@stevedoughja10346 жыл бұрын
@@jaydeebee2511 So in the rim of the lid it goes right to the edge correct? And slightly bends in with the shape of the lid (upwards)
@glfjunke2586 жыл бұрын
Sealing the bowl? It overlapped the edge of the bowl?
@jaydeebee25116 жыл бұрын
Steven Emas yes. It gives an extra tight seal. Nothing escapes. It’s not necessary but given there is more than enough in a roll I thought I would do it

Bravo! I need some for my Traeger Pro 22 smoker. I hope they sell it locally.
@jaydeebee25117 жыл бұрын
+Q- Shine I'm in australia. I purchased mine online. Lots of websites sell it. It's great stuff. I have had it on my BBQ now for I think almost a year and no problems. Still perfectly sealed when I smoke. It's really a great solution. And it really does help with temp control, as no air gets in or out except via the vents, so when you set your vents and have the right temp, it maintains temps perfectly with no further adjustments or checking
