If you use cedar animal bed shavings you won't have to change the bag very often. They smell wonderful too! I get mine at Walmart.

Saw this and it made realize if I had do all that to avoid buying the expensive refill cartridge, then I should just get the Separett Tiny and use cheaper waste basket bags.

Hi Wayne! It really is a personal choice which toilet to choose. Embassy will also install a Separett Tiny for an upcharge. My husband and I have our Embassy RV now and we went with the Laveo. So far, we have just used the cartridges and they are super easy to use and no smell! I am glad we helped you make your decision. Happy travels! :)

I use the bedding pellets. They smell great. I double bag my regular rv toilet. I don't use the black tank.

Great tip. Very useful if you’re on the road and run out of cartridges. We only go on weekend camping trips and day road trips so the Laveo gets limited use. Probably 9-10 cartridges used in a year so under $230 a season. That’s what the Laveo is really designed for. Limited use and emergencies. Full timers would need to economize or use a different toilet system like a composting.

A $150K+ van that lets you s##t in a bucket - nice! Why not just forgo the expensive Laveo toilet and use a 5 gallon plastic bucket for $5?

The toilet came with the van for no extra charge. We got to drive our Embassy van home last week. It was over 2,200 miles. We used one Laveo cartridge. We only needed to use it at night. The hack in this video is for if you run out of cartridges while on a trip or if you need to save a few dollars for awhile. It was nice having the cartridge in the van and using it. No smell. Jeff will be producing another video soon we taped when we got home and had to take the full cartridge out. Stay tuned! 😊

Every RV toilet solution has its pros and cons. The big advantage to dry flush is that you get 20 'flushes' before you need to change the cartridge. A plain old bucket requires you to dispose of the waste much more frequently and that will get old. The hack shown in this video is a nice workaround and saves money, but as a single traveler, I would probably just use the intended cartridges.

The OGO toilet is expensive but SO WORTH IT !!!!!!. The HUGE disappointment about these beautiful vans is the TOILET choice .

Could you put the bag inside the cartridges incase of leaks an just empty everyday or 2x a day just dont flush?

I live in Alaska and have a Laveo in my sprinter van that I use for every day transport. Because of freezing temps I take the battery out in the fall and use a heavy compost bag lined with a lighter bag in the winter. Kitty litter takes care of smell. I've gone the 5gal bucket route, built a 2x4 "riser" to bring it higher but even with the plastic seat it is not comfortable. I am in a wheelchair so I have to rock back-and-forth some to get pants off and back on so I am looking for a way to fasten my Laveo down to the raised platform I've built for it. Any ideas?

Your “hack” on your S1000 toilet is what is done on the $50 dollar Luggable Loo (which is a 5 gal. bucket with a toilet seat). You threw $950 down that fancy crapper.

The hack is for when we run out of Laveo cartridges on long trips. Otherwise we will be using the Laveo cartridges. If this hack was for every trip, you would definitely be right!

My husband and I just drove our new Embassy van home from Elkhart, IN-- over 2,200 miles and we used one Laveo cartridge. It was good and didn't smell. Very easy to use. I was glad though to meet Randy and get the Laveo hack, because if we were ever to do a long trip and run out of cartridges, it would be a blessing to use his hack! Plus if I was ever extra low on money, also helpful. Thanks for watching Andrew! Hi Rusty! Laveo Dry Flush toilets are definitely not cheap but their cartridges and system is a great option to not have a black tank. The problem my husband and I worried about is what to do when you are on a trip and you run out of cartridges? Nice to see a simple hack to use small garbage bags and cheaper too. Hi Carol! That is a great question. We did a video of a hack you can do if you run out of the laveo cartridges on a trip or if you want to save money. The hack would also work if the mechanical part that twists the bags breaks. With an Embassy RV build, the laveo dry flush toilet is the standard option with no additional costs other than purchasing more laveo cartridges. Oh my goodness! You are right! That is what I get for answering these before I go to bed! Being that we got our Laveo dry flush toilet as standard in our Embassy van build, I can't address the cost for buying the individual toilet. It has been working for us great and flushing easily but we have only had our van now for one month. We hope it won't have mechanical breaks and it feels pretty solid. If it does break, we can do another video about it but friends who have owned Embassy van builds with a Laveo for a few years have not complained about it breaking. If it ever did break or if you ran out of the cartridges, you could use the hack that we used in this very video and it would easily take care of it. Too funny that I put a link to this video in my first answer! HA! I must have been tired when typing! I get a link in my KZbin back office for answering comments for all of the videos at once. No need for the Laveo, just get a 5 gallon bucket and toilet seat (find at Camping World) and use the same way. The purpose of a dry flush is the toilet ties the bag, so if not going to use it in the way it was made, no need to buy the toilet itself. Many toilet options that allow use of plastic bag and pine litter, whereas the toilet itself costs less than $100.

Hi Elgin! When you buy an Embassy RV, the Laveo Dry Flush toilet is standard. It comes with the van. If you are on the road on a long trip and run out of cartridges, then you need the hack in this video. My hubby and I, when we go on a short trip and know we are going to be around a campsite with water flush bathrooms, we often don't put in a new cartridge and just use a bag and pee powder in the Laveo since we will just be using it for middle of the night peeing. That way we don't waste an entire cartridge if we are not going to camp again for quite awhile. If you are doing your own van conversion, you could easily get a 5 gallon bucket and toilet seat for a lot less. Thanks for watching the video and we hope you have a wonderful day!

Wait let me get this straight, so you spent $900 bucks on a toilet thats supposed to spin and vacuum out for the next go but you use a trash bag and do this manually? If thats the case why didn't you just spend $5 bucks on a bucket, and save $894?

That is an excellent question! This hack is for when you are on a long trip and run out of cartridges or if you are short on cash. Embassy RV's come with the Laveo Dry Flush Toilet so we don't pay extra for it...directly anyway. Thanks for watching!

How much are the cartridges?

That is a great question. I haven't bought any yet because my Embassy van came with 5 or 6 cartridges and we just drove, "Grace", home and used up our first cartridge. When I look up the cartridges, I noticed some were really cheap. Before I got too excited I read the comments and reviews. Buyer beware...some of the cheap places had people say they paid for their cartridges but they never arrived! i will be buying mine at Laveo Dry Flushes website and get them direct. They are not cheap but I will actually receive them! The real website is www.dry-flush.com As of July 10th, 2023, the cost of 3 cartridges--up to 45 flushes--is $67.75 before taxes and shipping. You can buy a 15 pack --up to 225 flushes -- for $338 plus taxes and shipping. There is not a cost benefit to purchase the bigger bundle other than you may save some money on shipping and less worry of running out of cartridges for a very long trip. That is why we did this video. We found an Embassy owner who knew the best hack on the road if you run out of cartridges or need to save some money. I hope that helps! I am not sure why KZbin put a line in the words of the cost and how many maximum flushes you would get for that flush. I do not get any kick backs from Laveo. I was just researching the prices to help you by answering your question. Plus I will need this info too in the near future! Oh well! :)

It came standard in our Embassy RV. We will use it the regular way with the diaper genie like cartridges but if we run out of cartridges while on the road or if it breaks, etc. this hack is a good back up.
