Hi am a coach in England the weakness of 4 3 3 is usina 4 4 2 and attacking them using the rm and lm in your 4 4 2 formation As 4 3 3 only use 3 midfielders so they weak on the midfield flanks

Do you think you can reduce weakness in transition by asking your FB on weak side to stay back in line with CBs?

Yes you can reduce the weakness but then you are also reducing attacking power. The 433 is meant to have the wings available for the fullbacks to help out in the attack. So, there has to be a balance as to when they attack and when they go because naturally they would not go all the time due to game circumstances but you can work on when they go and when they stay. Ultimately, staying dynamic and allowing the game to determine when to go and when to stay. I hope that answers your question. If not, feel free to let me know. Thanks for your support!

What would you do to cover the weakness?

Hi and thank you for your question. Sorry for the late response. I am a football coach and summers are typically really busy for me. Anyway, to answer your question I would focus on the strengths of the 433, which is to be offensive minded. If I use the 433, then this means I have players that have the quality to attack and maintain possession, so having the ball and creating scoring opportunities would be a priority. Furthermore, I would run a high press for as long as my players can meet the high demands. Other than that, I would make adjustments according to the match. So, things like where are the opponents attacking from, where are they breaking our lines, which player is tired, or perhaps the team requires us to change to a different formation. All these things are possible, ultimately stay flexible and adapt to the match. I hope this answers your question. Thanks for your support! Cheers! Coach Luis Laureano La Vida Fútbol

This is a great explanation, thankyou. The 433 is my favorite formation as it creates great football to watch. The main thing about a 433 I think is you must have centre backs with elite speed, the goalkeeper has to be able to play as a sweeper, the defensive midfielder must be able to read play well and be disruptive on turnovers and the full backs have to have great endurance with good speed as they cover a lot of the pitch from deep in defence to deep in attack. Also the coach needs to make changes early as fatigue will occur around that 60 minute mark for midfielders and full backs.

Hey man what's the best formation for an out of shape older team playing on a full field for the first time?

I should say 1433 is stronger while defending but lack offencive because more player are out of position while defending and it's hard to recover their position to attack and maintain position.

You could easily just apply an attacking overload principle tucking the weak side back in to nullify the long ball but if pressing properly that long ball is often inaccurate. You could also drop the 6 in between the center backs when the ball gets turned over and drop the 8 or 10 into a holding position until the wing backs return home. The only real issue I see is if the other teams 9 is ridiculously fast with the high line
