Te do It just had a great story about the current ethics of settling out of court and giving short time for information on active crimes. It shows a real "doesn't matter how long they get so long as we catch them" vibe aswell as the sign of a good lawyer being their "win rate". But then it all falls apart about halfway in starts focusing on just Jamie Foxx's character becoming an old school action hero stopping the bad guy and throwing out a snappy line before letting the bad guy be done in by his own plot. This movie would of done so much better with an ending where there are no clear winners and it was all about the current status of law enforcement.

What I love so much about this scene, It isn't gory, but everybody knows. His dialog, it's not too much. it's not to little. He's not playing one of those overdone villains that needs to speak in monologues and use uncommon words to prove that he is intelligent. His persona reeks of genius. And rather than getting over the top mad, you can see he has had 10 years to seethe and to enjoy it. And on top of that, just as sick and twisted as his character is, because of those things THAT is what makes you root for the villain. He's is relates to the audience, by being human as possible, whilst doing these things. My god this performance is gravy.

Referencing another post, Clyde had ten years to methodically plan his revenge. He probably spent those years secretly surveilling Darby, observing his every move, habits, and behavior. Clyde probably discovered Darby to be impulsive with little or no self-control, so he used this to his advantage. Predictably, Darby tried to fire the gun laced with toxins. As well, Clyde ensured that there were no loose ends. His sole objective was to herd Darby straight into his trap.

One of the most underrated films of all time. The scene prior to this where Clyde reveals himself after being disguised as a cop is one of the best scenes in the entire film. No Clyde was not psychotic, he was seeking his own justice because the justice system failed to deliver the justice he was seeking. Easily Gerard Butler's best movie and his best performance of his career. His acting in this was borderline Oscar worthy. Clyde ended up becoming the most liked character in this entire movie because nobody gave a fuck that his family got killed by two trash ass scumbags. If you haven't seen the director's cut you should! It makes this torture seen at that much sweeter because Darby rapes Clyde's wife.

I like how a lot of people say "Oh this is horrible why would he torture him instead of killing him outright?" When you get wronged, your natural instinct is to want revenge. It's a completely natural feeling. You want the person who wronged you to suffer. Sometimes it's something simple like a cheated boyfriend/girlfriend getting back their partner by posting very embarrassing things on the internet. Then there are cases like this. I would like to ask two questions to all the white-Knights out there: 1. Have you ever been wronged at least once in your life? If so, did you not feel like you wanted to get back at the person who wronged you? 2. If a man came into your house, killed your young child, raped and killed your wife, then got let off by the court because of some BS legal loophole, what do you think you would feel? Maybe try and imagine what it would be feel like to have your family wiped out in front of you, only to have the "justice" system let the killer off. Just imagine.

Well let's just imagine this, Clyde is a killer, a spy who worked with him said so. So now not only does he kill for a job, he kills for satisfaction. When does it stop? I'll tell you it's when people let go of the past and move on with their life. Do you think his wife and daughter would've wanted him to end up like he did? Coming from someone who held their friend when he was at his last moments, I was told "Don't be like the ones who wronged you, become better, not bitter."

I beg to differ. With the ability he repeatedly demonstrated to outsmart the police, he could have just framed the guy by planting evidence that the police could make stick. His whole point of performing his hideously inhumane act was to torment the DA's family. Of course we know it's only a movie, so it is not wrong in the sense of an ISIS beheading video. Also there is something practically wrong with overkill. You don't make the guy you execute any less likely to commit another crime by chopping off all his fingers, toes, etc. first. Then he goes onto killing a bunch of otther people who wouldn't deserve death in China which does execute white collar criminals. Why didn't he use his super powers for truth, justice, and the American way like all comic book heroes, instead becoming a worse criminal than anyone he wants the government to protect us from?
@alceushunterx7 жыл бұрын
life in prison is probably the best punishment the justice system would do. Fucking pathetic. Nothing compared to having your entire family killed and not being able to do anything. Revenge is the best punishment. These criminals were inhumane so why should they get humane punishment in return?
@leolundgren39896 жыл бұрын
Revenge solves nothing at all and is only sure to bread more violence; something that we ultimately want to get rid of entirely. The state and its citizens should always strive for a higher moral standard, to really mark the contrast between the victim and the perpetrator. Otherwise it would be a difficult task to uphold any kind of real justice, as the term justice is in constant question. If the lines are completely blurred it's anyones guess what's right or wrong.

@VoidThePerpetual9 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you see, we used to do that, but it turns out, sometimes you accidentally do it to innocent people. Unfortunately, all the bad guys in the world isn't worth torturing one innocent person. The problem is that the only people who really know what happened are the perpetrator and their victims. Vigilante justice also doesn't work all the time, because, let's say I think some dude killed my wife, simply because he hated me. I kill him. Turns out, he didn't kill my wife. Whoopsie, I made a mistake, but that's okay, right? Wrong, you killed an innocent person, who was an asshole, but innocent nonetheless.

Although I was being somewhat serious, my comment was intended as mainly a joke. The film made a good point (there have been several hundred responses to comments I've made on other clips from this movie - about the failures of capitalism and the systems ability to rehabilitate). My point was that so many people always use the excuse that people aren't responsible for the actions they chose to do, because it's their job (this is usually used as a rebuttal as to why people shouldn't hate the police). Well, this guy was protecting his family where the system left off...or actually, never really intended to help since Darby was already a previous felon for violent crimes (he was going to get his third strike when this guy captured him). TL;DL - don't be mad that this happens in real life because it's the way the system works. Don't blame the DA for their fuck ups that cause incidences like this as a response - blame the people that have an actual normal reaction to the system failing and criminals that "choose" not to be rehabilitated. Also, there's another movie which has a situation exactly as you described. I've taken that into consideration.
@dennisritchie14910 жыл бұрын
I forgot to add that although the people in "3 Days Grace" did touchure their sons assalient, they were completely incompetent and were not bent on fixing the broken system. My point is that the anti-hero in this movie is a very special case, one that doesn't represent many people in the world (especially the USA) today. He was a veteran, highly educated in math, science, and health science, and had the determination to teach him law at a doctoral level (dispite it having litreally nothing to do at all with his educational background). Most people are not this guy, that I agree; however, it usually takes someone this smart, this determined, and this...crazy to fix government issues when they are obviously biased; the have been several times in history where this has been the case, the one that comes to mind is the Gun Powder Treason.

+banbud684 You'd be wrong. Extreme punishments aren't real deterrents. the USA is quite a young country but historically in medieval times it was the case that almost all punishments were met with death, with varying amounts of torture prior. imprisonment has only really been a thing for 200 years or so in reality brutality like this merely makes the general population more inclined to violent and vicious acts on the whole.

+banbud684 Reality is against you on this, There is no evidence at all for your arguement, I don't know if you live in the USA but the USA has an extremely high recidivism rate despite having long sentences and harsh prison conditions, whereas other countries such as Norway have prison systems focused on reform and much shorter sentences and consequently much lower recidivism. uk.businessinsider.com/why-norways-prison-system-is-so-successful-2014-12?r=US&IR=T Punishment is in itself insufficient to prevent recidivism all facts are against you on this. Now I'm not a crying heart liberal on this matter I'm personally not for forgiving murderers ect. but neither would I desire horrific torture gleefully desiring ever more violent expressions upon people you hate is extremely destructive to your own humanity.

@fr3k4z0id10 жыл бұрын
When you feel like that, than you didn't get the "message" of the film. He dies because he became the very same ruthless killer which he fought against in the first place (first with the help of the law, and when he saw that fail he just got the things in his own hands). Thats why there is no "eye for an eye" law in the civilized world, because people would slowly turn into animals, like the ones who already decended on a path towards it. We could argue about this for hours, even for days. What does satisfy who for someone's loss.. or whatever.. but you have to live with the death/murder of the other one too. If you so decide to kill him yourself, then you just become like him .. a murderer.

Way more of an anti-hero than a 'good guy'. I knew the writers wouldn't give him a release when he started killing innocent (by movie standards) legal staff just because he hated the system and what they were doing. I liked Butler's character aswell...but towards the end I was getting the idea that the only way out for him was death.
@tonyleamon33297 жыл бұрын
I still don't understand how the fuck this underrated film didn't get nominated for an Oscar. It deserves one for its outstanding screen writing, dialogue, acting, etc. In this movie, no one is the good guy, there is only one antihero (Clyde) and the rest are villains. The main antagonists are Nick, Darby, and the judge. All Nick gave a shit about was to make a deal with the devil so he can keep his career and be promoted to Attorney General to selfishly support his own family while Clyde gets no justice and instead has to take the law in his own hands and at the same time, go to war against the corrupt judicial system that completely broke his trust which is actually a sad reality we live in now. The judicial branch doesn't care about any of us. They get paid by how many convictions they make which is no different than running a business which is exactly what Smedley Butler warned us about nearly a century ago when he knew America would be corrupted and fall under the rule of capitalist tycoons. It goes to show that the movie industry only nominates movies with the biggest sales rather than better screenplay. That's how fake the world really is#)!
