Still relevant 10 years later, and the debate on two versions of Treaty is making slow progress:)

Thanks a lot for this Moshen, I've used your lectures as the basis of my study this semester - really well articulated and clear. Pretty impressive for 5 years later!

There is a fundamental question that we need to first ask, is it broken do we need to fix It? A constitution controls and limits the power of government including parliament. All good government is a system of checks and balances but parliament is the voice of the people and that voice changes to suit the circumstances of the time. Under a monarchy our system of government has evolved to suit the time. Under a constitution that evolution is much more difficult the US is a perfect example. A law that parliament makes with the full support of the people can be ruled invalid because it contravenes a provision of a constitution written many years ago when the current circumstances were unforseen. Also our common and statute law has also evolved over many centuries and contains many conventions and legal fiction. A case in point is land ownership. We do not own the land that our house sits on we have an interest in that land in the form of an estate in fee simple which is a crown grant. All land is owned by the crown and your interest is for ever less one day when it reverts to the crown. If the Crown is replaced who does it revert to or does our interest even survive. If a republic replaces the crown all of these matters have to be considered in the constitution.

If the Queen is bound by New Zealand s constitution, doe,s it mean the Bible is the constitution, like the 10 commandments, its probably the best constitution every country should have

Where are the substantial historical Reasons of the role of Crown/Parliament. You provide no balanced unbias impartial view to your students which is lying by omission
