I'm all about forgiveness and growth, but Averie got a plea deal that had her plead guilty for wreckless driving that dismissed EVERYTHING else?! The "but these videos are online forever and that's not nothing" argument just falls flat with me. It's cope. When I was a kid (i'm 32 now), just the threat of a DWI alone and what that did to your future was about enough to keep me smart. I watch a lot of these videos. Half the drunk drivers aren't even bothered anymore. Half of that half have 3 or 4 DWIs already. The ones that actually could benefit with reprimand get a free pass instead. Averie seemed like a fine enough girl and she behaved about as well as a drunk driver does on these, but she wasn't even old enough to drink in the first place! Letting her off like that is signaling to her and anyone around her that a DWI isn't a big deal. I don't know how or why, but if everyone I ever met hates only PDF files more than drunk drivers, how did we allow our justice system to consider drunk drivers a threat hardly worse than getting caught spraying graffiti?! Thinking about that makes me sad. I love these videos, but hearing the outcomes almost always smarts a bit.
