If you read the book it's actually worse as far as the violence, not a lot of patience was shown to feds and mob deputies back then. The mob tried to go into several areas like Appalachia and learned what backwoods justice really means.

Loved how Howard slipped into the shadows before delivering the final blow. He let Jack have his moment and beat Rakes 1 on 1, but made the move he knew Jack didn't have the stomach for. Takes a lot of ice in your veins to end a man's life with a knife. That's a very intimate kill.

+Gustavo Almanza I own and carry both a 1911A1 and a S&W 625 in 45 ACP. As good as the 1911A1 is, the S&W 625 is by far the better gun. Much more accurate, reliable and will work in situations that even the 1911A1 fails. The auto is a handy tool, but a revolver has incredible versatility and utility that no auto pistol can match.

1:35 Don't know if this was the directing or the actor himself, but as a firearms instructor, this is actually an extremely realistic portrayal of someone who's never shot a gun in his life. If you pay close attention, he'll close his eyes before every shot and jerk the gun even before recoil kicks in. Slow it down to 0.5 to really see the details.

The shooting in this is pretty accurate as well for the era, the one handed shooting, shooting stances, and the like for the cops are all pretty much what they did back in those days. Remember, in WW2, no one was taught to shoot 2 handed, they were taught to shoot their 1911 with one hand fairly straight up, you can see it in training footage from the area.

@Jim Frick "Robinhood is not reality. The police are protecting you." Uh huh. When seconds count, the police are only minutes away. See Uvalde, TX, where the incident commander, School District Police Chief Pedro Arredondo, prevented parents and other law enforcement from even attempting to interfere with the shooter, who spent more than an hour alone in an unlocked school room with his defenseless victims. The shooter was eventually killed by federal agents who pushed through Arredondo's cordon. Yay for the police, I guess. On the other hand, see the countless stories of law abiding citizens defending themselves and others with firearms. These stories are often not broadcast outside local outlets because they don't fit the narrative. Also, see the Battle of Athens, TN (1946). No, go ahead, look it up for yourself. The truth is, the intended victims are always their own first responders--if they are trained and equipped to respond, and are allowed to do so.

Absolutely loved when he dug that knife into his back on the bridge. One thing about it even today, there's some mean motherfuckers out here in the backwoods. I know several good folk that won't out up with shit. My family included. You don't fuck with folks in the hills. People dont understand that.

Police shows be like "we found a strand of hair at the crime scene, it's from a woman who sold makeup to our prime suspect and he was her only customer, on that strand we have his fingerprints" Irl police departments be like, "We found several whole human skeletons in a culvert down Cr281 with binds on the ankles and wrists, the remains are 15 years old and suspected to have deceased around the same time as this missing persons case from around that time, but we don't really know so oh well"

I have family in the Appalachian mountains and they've told me stories over the years of different families that would not tolerate bullshit from bullies in uniform. The absolute craziest was probably the coal mine wars when our government got involved and had planes flying over the mountains waiting for the misty fog to clear so they could bomb the men hiding in the mountains. That's when they resumed talks and settled it. Crazy.

@@saltykrug whether they will admit it or not, even the govt are scared shitless of us mountain folk. I know places here where I live cops don't even bother going. And outsiders best tread carefully because people trespassing get shot fast. Since alot folk make their money off pot and shine they don't want anyone wondering around possibly falling upon a pot patch or still. Of course the only way the govt could do anything to us is by cowardly using aircraft and non conventional ways of bullying us. But even still the mountain man will always prevail. Just look at the turbin wearing rednecks that whooped our asses in Iraq and Afghanistan. They didn't have the technology we have and they still run circles around us. I will always say the govt can go fuck itself.

When they filmed part of this movie in my county of Troup County Georgia my cousin a Troup County Firefighter was assigned to sit on set in the FD’s brush truck a old 2dr Hummer H1 Brush Truck out in Liberty Hill a big open area with some insanely fun dirt roads and big fields and a few old homes from that era along with a barn that’s 120 years old.. But he was out there and got to meet Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy few different times during the downtime when they weren’t filming. He sent me a picture and video of him sitting in the hummer with Shia LaBeouf asking him “Yo Firefighter Josh can I uh I don’t know play with that cool joystick that works the front water cannon bro ? Please man….” 😂😂 He said when they weren’t filming it felt like you were just hanging out with a long time best friend who enjoyed being or couldn’t help being a idiot lol. But he said Tom Hardy was a completely different story and said that guy was as cool and badass and so chill and so nice to meet. But they also accidentally starting a minor brush fire which triggered the response of calling in every brush truck and pumpers&tankers to respond to put the brush fire out before it got much worse lol. Started either after doing a controlled explosion while filming and the wind helped it spread. Fire was put out with our county Hummer H1 Brush Truck.
