Hi, What a great Video, its help me sort out my HRD 535 no problem. Mine was a drive issue, and rather than the CV coupling it was simply that the PIN at the engine side of things had sheared and fallen out. Very cheap repair ! Thanks again for the patience for doing the thing! Ray Walton UK

Hey Jeremy, thanks for your videos Bro. It can't be easy to do the repairs with a tool in one hand and a camera in the other hand. I'm a weekend Honda lawn mower guy. Meaning, I pick up older Hondas that have issues, do the repair, and then sell, hopefully for a few bucks more than I paid. Just keeps me out of trouble and gives my mind and body something to do. Really enjoy your videos and the clear way you explain all steps. You said if there were any Honda issues I'd like addressed to let you know, so here goes. I have a Honda self propelled that has become VERY difficult to pull the starter cord on. Perhaps related, when hot it will only start at an extremely struggling chug....chug....chug and after a couple minutes just finally dies. I was thinking maybe the blade brake clutch is not disengaging correctly and the problem is exacerbated when hot(?)

Jeremy, thank you for doing this. I purchased a used Hrc216 off of CL that would only go forward in one speed. The speed control would not change. I checked the drive shaft as you showed and it spun perfect. I was afraid I was going to have to spend 250 for a new transmission when i saw/heard you mention the lever that the cable attaches to the tranny sometime gets bent. Sure enough mine was bent and after straightening it the mower works perfect. Thanks again and keep the videos coming.

my honda HRC216 is only driving with one wheel from what I can tell. I have to take it apart and take a look at it over the winter, but figured id shoot you a message first. If its not low on fluid, do you have another video that might point me in the right direction, or ideas to try/look at? Thx.

Thanks for doing this video, very helpful. I was looking at it to determine what's up with my older picked mower, a HRC215 SDA. Drive joint spins ok, but wheels won't turn. With drive cable engaged mower will move backward with no resistance. Thinking bad transmission, but not sure, any advice, or reference material you can point me to, so I can figure this out?

i use the honda hydro fluid part number 08208-hst01 and dexron III can be used in a pinch but i dont recomend it

Jeremy, awesome piece. I followed your lead and it worked out perfectly. I had a question, if you know the part number of the transmission baffle? Mine is all rusted out. I can't located it online anywhere to replace it and figured you as the expert may know the part number so i can at least search more accurately. Thanks so much!

It’s a great video and very informative. Recently I bought a used HRC216K2HXA. The joint was stuck and the driveshaft was pulled out when the rear wheel height was adjusted. I did the joint replacement by following the steps of this video. But sometimes the driveshaft still comes out and then the transmission is disengaged. I am just wondering how to fix the problem. Your advice is appreciated.

Sadly I couldn’t hear your diagnosis part. Just refurbished the Rotostop, both bearings Clutch Spring etc. The horrible lower bearing sound has gone and operates super smooth. But has revealed a transmission like noise. Like its not completely happy. Both gears engage super smoothly and drives well. Q. Could the sort of mechanical noise be this driveshaft.? Q Is the best way to remove the drive shaft and see if there is rotational play in it? I assume you cant actually see the universal joint and re-grease it? In the UK the Honda ones are £129 Its a Kaaz/Sarp LM5360 HXA Pro ( commercial with 4 wheels and a GXV160 and 2 speed gearbox) , oddly looking at the parts diagram, this seems to have a solid shaft, and a universal joint on each end. Its doesn’t seem to have the internally sliding shaft bit my Honda HRH 536 has? Q. I assume one removes the pins and hopefully there is enough room to push the shaft to each side to uncouple? Really hoping I don’t have to remove the transmission?

over adjustment of the cable at the handle bar........there is a bracket that holds the traction cable in place and its bolted to the transmission.....a lot of times the bracket gets weak and bends down thus not alowing full travel of the transmission arm (slow speed)......i would replace the cable and the cable bracket. let me know if this helps please......worse case scenario would actually be failing transmission

hello Jeremy, I would have to say that you put the driveshaft in backwards. I have seen where others have commented with the same post, I dont know if thats correct or not so I am also gonna guess that you forgot to make sure the snap ring was covering the shaft pin. 58406 S. 705 RD. Good videos! I have a HRC2163HXA, lost traction on left wheel. If I lift the back and engage the drive, the wheel spins, but not when on the ground. Right wheel will work fine, but I'm afraid the extra strain will cause more damage. No noise or rattling while drive engaged. Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

If its not shaft and that spins fine. What's the next issue with hydro. I replaced mower deck. Took entire mower apart. I drained hydro tran and think I have air in system. I pull drive handle and no drive. I thought it could be rear wheels reversed but switched already. No luck. I'll have to bleed system but curious how hard that may be.

Great video. You have good skills. Jeremy raised my rear wheels and they are turning but they bog down when I try to mow/not much power. It's the Model HRX217TDA bought in 2008. I'm wondering if it's just a loose belt or something. If so can you advise me how to fix it?

Hello Jeremy. I want to thank you for sharing your extensive knowledge. I have a HRC216K3 that is really slow. I've changed the Hydro fluid and checked the shaft but is still slow. Have you ever fixed a similar problem? I'm contemplating a new transmission but not sure I want to spend $350-$400 on this mower. It got a new motor on at the start of last season and am thinking about making it a parts mower. Any thoughts or advice?

Most likely it is the gear in the crankcase of the new mower engine.I had a similar problem but the new engine I bought had a gear that made it run faster than a person could keep up with.Fix: take the crankcase off and change the gear from the old engine to the new engine.Fixed my problem and if careful it was easy to do.

If honda had just extended the drive output by 2 inches it would have been easyer for you to remove the clips/pins/rubber ring and boots, im sure they design those things for childrens hands to work on. The end of that cable looked horrible, missing lube or bad design, it wanted a nylon tube inserted in the lever arm to cut the friction down on the cable end. Duckbilled plyers, spot on discription, my imagination saw them :-) Good vid :-)

How do you determine if the external (outside engine) drive shaft needs to be replaced, or if the problem is inside the engine, like the gear or internal shaft drive? I'd like not to take the motor apart to inspect the gear. The external shaft drive won't turn at all when I engage the clutch. I've checked the cables and they're set correctly. I did notice when the clutch is engaged and I pull the mower backwards the drive shaft rotates. This makes me think my problem problem could be inside the engine. My mower is a HRC216HXA. Maybe a 2006 yr. Hope you still check your channel for comments! Thanks

hello Jeremy, In your video,the motor sound was to loud can't hear what you were saying when you check the drive shaft. Is this how you check the drive shaft. If the handle is engaged the drive shaft should spin. If it does not spin then you have the joint problem and the shaft has to be replaced? Anyone how could clarified this please do so.

hey there, if you could, check my channel out and see if you can help me with this briggs and stratton 20hp vtwin engine. running on one cylinder i believe, cyl. 2 showed me ZERO compression. cyl. 1 about 85. basically in the videos (3 short ones) i explain what i've done so far, if you can understand my hillbilly accent. hahaha. u seem very knowledgable and I believe you know your stuff. just need some help man if you have the time. thanks
